1.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes:

Annual academic plan is made by IQAC and all the departments and faculty members are insisted to followthe plans. Periodic monitoring, suggestions and improvement are enforced to ensure the best outcome inTeaching and Learning process. IQAC conducts presentations sessions before Peer group and management.IQAC organizes periodic meetings with stakeholders and regular meetings with teachers for their suggestions.IQAC also insists evaluation of teacher by the students. IQAC gives suggestions based on the feedback fromthe students, alumni, parents, LMC and DES administration. IQAC keeps record of all the departmentalactivities. IQAC encourages and monitors student - centric activities such as group discussions, PPTpresentations, essay competitions, and integrating ICT in the teaching learning process. Maintenance ofteaching aids like electronic gadgets and equipments is also monitored and ensured by the IQAC.

Since appointments of permanent employees come under the purview of Maharashtra State Government as per roster rules, slight delay happens in immediately filling up the vacancies. Otherwise measures are intact to ensure optimum functioning of the administration with temporary staff. Efforts are on to fill up these vacant posts with the compliance of the higher govt. authorities.

Criterion – III 3. Research, Consultancy and Extension

3.1 Initiatives of the IQAC in Sensitizing/Promoting Research Climate in the Institution

The IQAC meetings are conducted regularly, annual plan is prepared and accordingly IQAC organisesresearch orientation workshops and seminars for Faculty members and students. Dr.Shubhashree Mukherjeeand Dr.John Menachery were invited as resource persons for the workshops for Faculty. Our FacultyDr.Manjushree Sardeshpande and Dr.Manju Dubey were invited as resource persons for ResearchMethodology Workshops conducted by R.T.M.Nagpur University’s Adult Continuing Education Centre. Theresearch climate is promoted in the Institution right from the under graduation. The Women Development Celland the Population Education Departments guide the students in preparing their research projects. B.B.A finalyear students and M.Com final year students have a paper on Research methodology in their syllabi.

The College is proud to have a Centre for Higher Learning and Research affiliated to R.T.M.NagpurUniversity.

The Institution encourages faculty to undertake research activities. Eleven Faculty members are PhDsupervisors providing guidance to nearly 48 research scholars working under them, nine Faculty arepursuing their PhDs . Ms.Manju Dubey was awarded Phd , Dr.S.Ghatate was awarded D.Lit and OneFaculty Dr.Shubhangi Paranjape has submitted her thesis for D. Lit.

Ph.D. Guides render guidance in using appropriate research methodology for the doctoral researchers.Researchers have access to NList and other research databases through the campus Wi-Fi system.

In order to facilitate access to academic resources our Institute has envisaged library access at different levels.We have a centralized library, departmental libraries attached to every department, a Post- graduate library andResearch Centre Library. Faculty members participate in conferences and seminars at national andinternational levels and read their research papers there. This year post graduate students of M.A English alsopresented papers at conferences.

Workshops were conducted by Philosophy Department, English Department, Sanskrit Department, andNational Conference was organized on Bhagvatgeeta.

The institution supports its faculty for submitting Research projects and securing external funding throughflexibility in administrative processes and infrastructure and academic support which are crucial for anyinstitution to excel in Research. Seven Faculty members have successfully completed their minor researchprojects and their accounts have also been settled.

The faculty are empowered to take up research activities utilizing the existing facilities.

The institution encourages its staff to engage in interdisciplinary and interdepartmentalresearch activities and resource sharing. A Spices Board of India project onStandardization of Varhadi Cuisine was conducted in the college where faculty fromdifferent departments were involved. The institution provides logistic and infrastructuresupport for individual researches and self financed researches.

Sharing of knowledge especially theoretical and practical findings of research enhancesquality of teaching and learning-Dr.Alka Badge has published a book on her minorresearch project.

Under International Faculty Development Programme Dr. Akhilesh V. Peshwe completeda Research Degree Programme from the top ranked University of Texas at Austin .Dr.Manjushree Sardeshpande completed an Online Certificate Course – The Fiction ofRelationship from the Brown University, USA and Coursera.

All these activities provide avenues to the faculty as well as students to pursue research

The faculty members of the institution conscientiously contributed towards social responsibility through nearly twelve different programmes.

1. LASSY (Laxmi Saraswati Swavalamban Yojana)’:- It is an ‘Earn & Learn Scheme’ where students

are given opportunity to earn on campus through simple assignments like data-entry, administrativework etc.

2. MSMP (‘My Society My People’) – On the occasion of the Founders’Day, a cultural fete isorganised by the students of the college. This year, in all 22 stalls were put up by Junior and Seniorcollege students. The money generated through it was used for the extension activity of the college.(Health check-up and Medicine distribution was done for the needy of Kachchipura locality)

3. ‘Each One Help One’: - Study material is exchanged from senior students to junior students.4. Different Community Developmental activities at adjoining Kachchipura locality : Under this we

have adopted part of Kachhipura in collaboration with NMC.a) Prof Yogesh Nikam conducted special English teaching class for the children of Kachipura

locality, on every Sunday morning 2 hrs.(9 am to 11 am) from Diwali vacation till the day of their Annual examination .

b) Anthropometric measurements of Anganwadi students of the Kachhipura locality were conducted by the Home Eco. Dept, mothers of malnourished children were guided about the health determinants - child’s nutrition, hygiene , safe and clean drinking water, medical care etc.

c) Story telling : Dr. Sarita Modak of Psychology Deptt.motivated the children of Kachchipura locality by telling them inspirational stories.

d) Sports Summer Camp was conducted by Shri.Goverdhan Wankhede for students of Kachipura locality .

9. Blood Donation, Haemoglobin test, HIV testing & Blood Group check up : Every year Blood Donation camp is organised on 8th August 2014 in the memory of Late Resp. Shri Vinayakrao Phatak(Birth anniversary). This Camp was organised by NSS. 50 students & 5 faculty member donated blood on 8th August 2014.

10. Regular Health Monitoring in done under guidance of Dr. Unnati Datar for the staff.. BP and Pulse Rate is recorded and advice is given for better health.

11. ‘Vruttabaddha Kavitanchi Antakshari’: This is a unique activity jointly organised by the college and Dharampeth Education Society. It is an ‘Antakshari Competition’ of old poems wherein focus is on enjoying the rhyme and metre. It is open to all from the society.

12. In order to inculcate cultural and moral values inherent in our Puranas, Vedas and Upanishadas andits present day relevance, “Geeta Pathan” was conducted by Sanskrit Deptt. on. every Friday of eachmonth, under the guidance of Dr. Shrinivas Varnekar. Similarly “Dnyaneshwari Pathan” wasorganised by Marathi Dept. on 13th Sept 2014, Dr. Mrunalini Bande was the Chief Guest.

13. ‘Amrut Vyakhyan’ is organised once in every two years for discussing various social, cultural and moral issues. On 7th Feb 2015 it was organised Resp. Ram Madhav Rashtriya Sarchitnis BJP was the Chief Guest, the topic was “Bharat ke padosi Desh Mitra ya Shatru”

14. Gram Swachhta Abhiyan by NSS students was done from 18 to 24 Jan 2015 at Mannatheoshwar (Ghogra). 60 students participated.

15. ‘ Employee Kalyan Mandal’functions for the welfare of the Staff.16. Accident Insurance Scheme is there for all the students and staff of the college

17. E-Waste Management- the college has tie up with E-Waste Management Firm.

10. Blood Donation, Haemoglobin test, HIV testing & Blood Group check up : Every year Blood Donation campis organised on 8th August 2014 in the memory of Late Resp. Shri Vinayakrao Phatak (Birth anniversary). This Camp was organised by NSS. 50 students & 5 faculty member donated blood on 8th August 2014.

11. Regular Health Monitoring Cell under guidance of Dr. Unnati Datar for the staff. BP and Pulse Rate is recorded and advice is given for better health.

12. ‘Vruttabaddha Kavitanchi Antakshari’ : This is a unique activity jointly organised by the college and DES, it is a’Antakshari Competition’ open to all from the society.

In order to inculcate cultural and moral value inherent in our Puranas, Vedas and upanishadas, emphasis isgiven in present day relevance by “Geeta Pathan” by Sanskrit Dept. every Friday of each month, under theguidance of Dr. Shrinivas Varnekar. Since majority of students are from marginalized sections of society IQAC ensures strict timely appraisal of various facilities, scholarship, amenities and financial benefits are made available from College as per Management, RTMNU,UGC, Directorate of Higher Education and other nodal agencies. As an encouragement technique Cash Awards are given to students. Endowment Awards are given annually on 26 January each year.In order to support academic growth of students cash awards are given. Students are intimidated and encouraged to avail these benefits.Information regarding student’s growth and development is disseminated properly. IQAC members ensure thatsuch information is updated regularly. In order to encourage the students, cash awards are given. Some other measures taken are: 1. Every Year the updated information regarding college activities is published through the college

prospectus and Information brochure.2. Waiving off the fees of the needy students, facilitating them with textbooks and academic notebooks,

3. Our Placement Cell ensures proper employment channels are made available .Special recruitment for defence and allied services is facilitated through NCC and Sports Departments. Speedy processing of documents for students who are applying for Police Recruitment and other jobs.

4. Specially equipped Counseling Centre is functional under the Psychology Department from 8am -4pm on all working days. Counseling is provided by competent counselors. Ms. Sarita Modak and Mrs.Seema Pagey are rendering their services.

5. Student Redressal Cell is functional in the college. Complaint/Suggestion Box is placed on the ground floor in a prominent place near Principals office for students to voice their concerns. The complaint box isopened once in every two months by the Principal and the issues if any are addressed.

1. Tests are conducted periodically in the Institution. Games and sports and special practice sessions are organized for the sports persons of the institution.

7. We have a fully equipped modern central library for the use of the entire Institution. New books procured by library are put on display for almost a fortnight in the library so that the concerned beneficiaries may have information about the latest stock.

8. Curriculum development and modification was done for BBA, B.Com, BCCA, and M.Com (semester) wherein new chapters and lessons introduced by University were adopted and accordingly the Faculty members updated the knowledge bank of their respective subjects.

9. Information on various loan and investment schemes through bank visits are arranged and used to guide the students as a part of curriculum development and to enhance their entrepreneurial skills. .

10. Remedial courses are conducted for the students whose performances were below the expected standards. Bridge courses are conducted to address the needs of the students getting admitted by opting for a change in their stream of studies. With a view to incorporate competence building among students and strengthening their foundation about the basics of their respective subjects’ general students are also admitted in Bridge courses. .

This year our faculty members conducted several curriculum development activities. Some of them are listed below.

1. Vocational Skill Development Programme was organized for the students wherein new soft skills were demonstrated to students. Classes for Tally were conducted for the students from 15 March to 30 April, 2015. The Resource Person was Ms.Sonali Tambuskar. These programmes were organized in our centralized Computer Lab.

2. ICT: Institution adopts modern ICT to provide updated knowledge to students. Our College being facilitated with Wi-Fi, online learning resources are easily available to every student and Faculty member. OPAC facility is another library facility for scholars E-Learning resources and resource material in the form of CD's and audio is provided to students at the under graduate level.

3. Resource Material and model answer sets are given to students so that they have a ready study material for reference.

4. We have the facility of Display Boards outside each Department which is well utilizedfor showcasing the talents o f students in terms of articles, and contributions related to current affairs and general knowledge of the respective Department. Information about Job Vacancies, employment opportunities etc. are displayed for a week and then changed with latest updated information. Signature Wallpaper were prepared onselected topic for better understanding and this facility is made available for students in the Language Lab

Group Discussions are conducted for the students on varied topics like Communication and Effective methods of communication, Awareness of constitutional rights among students, latest trends and amendments in IT laws and rules. Visit to Historical, Culturally relevant locales, Places of Environmental interest and places of social relevance to enrich the subjective knowledge of students. The student responses are compiled and the chosen ones are featured d in the annual College Magazine ‘Prerna’.

6. In order to ensure the Holistic development of students our Institute ensures both academic as well as their physical well being. Other than the activities conducted bythe Physical Education Department in our Gymnasium, special Yoga techniques are demonstrated to enhance performance of the athletes and general well being of allthe students

11. Simplifying complex topics to foster better and quick grasp on the subject topic is another technique adopted by our Faculty. Resources from Internet to boost students’ interest and updated information of all fields of knowledge particularly award winning literary texts, latest inventions and discoveries, information on the amendments of Constitution, Corporate laws, Income Tax, UGC rules and regulations, opportunities and avenues for higher education and memorizing techniques are communicated to students.

12. Work culture in social life is demonstrated to students by way of arranging social activities and encouraging student involvement therein.

This year our faculty members conducted several teaching learning activities some are listed as below1) PowerPoint presentations, Cyber- Aided techniques and Excel sheets are displayed to the students, to make the subject topic easier to understand. Teaching is aided by the use of ICT like Visualizer, online academic resources, educational CDs and use of Smart classroom. Preparation of Charts, and graphs by Faculties and students is another substitute to bring abouta clear understanding of topics.2) In order to improve the language skills and writing skill among students various formats are designed in the Language lab for their benefit. Orell Digital Language Laboratory Software is used along with online and offline internet resources.3) With the objective of cultivating habit of writing point wise answers and improving the handwriting, the students are made to write assignments on topics of the subject of study. These are classroom assignments as well as home assignments.4) Easy explanations of difficult words are given in the classrooms and the students are encouraged to improve their vocabulary by making them search new words and phrases for healthy debates and question answer sessions in the Institution and elsewhere. 5) Recitation and poetry memorization is also made mandatory for all students. 6) Audio- aids are provided to students in Music Department and also in Language Lab (microphones) to help them improve the skill of recitation and accent modification. 7) Practical Exposure is provided to students by encouraging them to participate in group discussions on relevant topics and Quiz competitions which is a regular feature of The College. Regular in-house competition is organized between Arts, Commerce and Professional courses Departments to encourage healthy competition and up gradation of knowledge.8) In order to overcome the exam phobia among students, along with regular class tests, unit tests and terminal examination we encourage open book exam system.9) Re-examination are conducted for students.: Exam committee reviews the students performance in tests and exams and the students whose performance is not up to the mark areasked to solve the entire question paper again within the stipulated time span. We also providethe facility of open book exam so that the students can read and write the answers. This is mandatory for the students otherwise they are not given clearance for the final exams. Re-exam is another facility extended to our differently-abled students.10) In some classes we still adhere to traditional Blackboard teachings we find this technique still effective to explain step by step problem solving ,to enhance topic clarity, and to delineate case- study techniques.11) Regular Home Assignments are given to make the students study the topics and attempt

descriptive answers. This also ensures the improvement in handwriting, time management and also honing the skills of summarizing and critiquing.

12) A healthy academic activity by the teaching English Department titled ‘Teacher for Today’is a novel way of making students present topics they have learnt in front of the entire class boosting their confidence .

Our faculties conducted following activities in their respective classrooms in their own innovative way

1. Paper setting, Evaluation, Model Answer, Question Bank, Practical Examinations: The faculty members prepare question papers based on University pattern for all unit tests half yearly and annual exams as per the college schedule. After the exams all answer sheets are evaluated and the papers are handed over to the students. They are given access to model answers booklet prepared by the faculty member so that students can analyze themselves and thus get an opportunity to understand the correct method of answering questions.

2. Rewriting answers after evaluation: To inculcate a good habit of writing and to make the students aware of the art of writing to the point authentic answers students, are encouraged to rewrite those answers in which their performance is below average. These answers are again evaluated.

3. Focus on handwriting. Students are stressed upon the importance of legible and good writing and so are encouraged to write paragraphs, home assignments and articles in regular college hours.

4. Internal Practical Exams for BCCA students and internal viva for studentsof B.Com, Vocational studies, Music, Psychology, Home Economics and Sanskrit Lit. are conducted as per University schedule. We do conduct mock practical exams for the students to give them a firsthand idea of viva voce.

5. Re-Examinations:- The Faculty members conduct re exams for students who fail to secure minimum passing marks in college internal exams. This helps a long way in making the students to imbibe knowledge and prepare themselves better for the university exam. For this activity we also extend the facility of open book exam the students are made to rewrite the previous question paper itself which is again evaluated and students are counseled on how to avoid mistakes.

6. Physical tests are conducted according to University guidelines. Apart from the mandatory University physical tests we have an in-house facility for physical medical and mental development which caters towards the holistic development in students. We have a Faculty member who is a Doctor who voluntarily engages herself in providing medical facilities to students. Yoga classes are conducted for the students to imbibe mental and physical strengths. One o f our students Ms.Nisha Nannaware is employed as a physical cum Yoga trainer to guide the students. Utmost attention is given towards physical mental and spiritual Quotients among the students.

We are an authorized Centre for Higher Learning and Research. Our Faculty members are involved in constructive research activities, some of them are recorded below.

1. Eight Faculty members have received sanction from UGC for undertaking Research Activities as Minor Research Projects under the 11 plan. Four faculty members have submitted their final project reports to the UGC.

2. Use of statistical information and data analysis is incorporated for knowledge dissemination.

3. Guidance to Research Students and Research activities through independent research centre: We have RTM Nagpur University approvedresearch centre for the subjects of Commerce, English and Sociology. As we are affiliated to RTM Nagpur University we follow the norms ofstipulated by the University for Examination Reforms. In addition the college has its own in built system of preparing our students for University, National and International Level Examinations for competency building and empowerment of students. Each Department has its individual PT Association. Parent-Teacher Association is formed for a term of two years. The parents were given a tour of the language lab and other facilities available in the Institution. 7.1 Innovations introduced during this academic year which have created a positive impact on the functioning of the institution. Give details.

The institution conducts number of Best practices as follows:

1. LASSY (Laxmi Saraswati Swavalamban Yojana)’:- It is a ‘Earn & Learn Scheme’ where students are given opportunity to earn incampus through simple assignments like data-entry, administrative work etc. (Annexure – III – 7.1.1)

2. MSMP (‘My Society My People’) – It is a cultural fete, in all 22 stalls from Junior and senior college were operated by the students.It was organised on the eve of Founders Day on (Founders Day is observed on 5 August every year). This is year also it wasorganised on 5/08/2015. The money generated thought it was used for the extension activity of the college.(Health check-up andMedicine distribution to the needy of kachchipura locality)(Annexure-III 7.1.2)

3. ‘Each One Help One’: - It is also a student’s initiative in which Study materials are exchanged from senior students to junior students.

4. Different community developmental activities at adjoining Kachchipura locality: Under this we have adopted part of kachipura in collaboration with NMC.

a) Prof Yogesh Nikam conducted special English teaching class for the children of Kachipura locality, from Diwali vacation till their examination on every Sunday morning 2 hrs.(9 am to 11 am)b) Anthropometric measurement of Anganwadi students lactated at kachipura conducted by Home Eco. Dept, mothers of malnourished children were guided about the health determinants as child’s nutrition, hygiene , safe and clean drinking water, medical care etc.c) Story telling: Particularly students of kachchipura locality are motivated by telling them inspirational stories by Dr. Sarita Modak, Psychology Deptt.d) Sports Summer Camp to students of Kachipura locality : e) Medical check up and medicine distribution to the needy of Kachchipura locality.

5. ICT is incorporated in the classroom learning process. Environmental awareness activities. 7. Contact Programmes for Practical Awareness (CPPA)8. In order to enhance employability skills the college has the Certificate courses in 1. Banking 2. Communicative Skills 3. Human

Resources Development are conducted in the institution. (total 64 students).9. Counseling for Competitive examinations. 10. To showcase the talent of students –‘VEDH Inter-Collegiate Cultural Fest’ is organized every year. This year it was organised on 15-

16 December 2014. A total 20 colleges participated in the event. On this occasion Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Murllidhar Chandekar,Shri Harshawardhan Nawathe & Mrs Sarika Nawathe were the Guests.

11. Blood Donation, Hemoglobin test, HIV testing & Blood Group check up : Every year Blood Donation camp is organized on 8August2014 in the memory of Late Resp. Shri Vinayakrao Phatak (Birth anniversary). This Camp was organized by NSS Department. 50 students & 5 faculty member donated blood on 8 August 2014. A list of Emergency donors of rare Blood Groups was prepared.

12. Regular Health Monitoring Cell under guidance of Dr. Unnati Datar for the staff. BP and Pulse Rate is recorded and advice is given for better health.

13. ‘Vruttabaddha Kavitanchi Antakshari’ : Since this activity is directed in order to encourage the literary sensibility of the students particularly stressing on the metre. This is open to the public and is organised in collaboration with DES.

14. In order to inculcate cultural and moral values inherent in our Puranas, Vedas and upanishadas, emphasis is given in present dayrelevance by “Geeta Pathan” by Sanskrit Dept. every Friday of each month, under the guidance of Dr. Shrinivas Varnekar. Similarly“Dnyaneshwari Pathan” was organised by Marathi Dept. on 13th Sept 2014, Dr. Mrunalini Bande was the Chief Guest.

15. ‘Thought for the Day’ (Thoughts like - Moral, career oriented, Ethical values, motivational, value based etc) In our display board everyday a noble or inspiring thought is written and also read out in the assembly to motivate the students.

18. To inculcate reading and writing habits among the students, ‘My Favourite Book’ – An Essay Competition (Babaji Deshpande essay competition) is organised every year. This year it was Organised by Marathi Dept on 8th January 2015. In this competition the students wrote an essay about his/her favourite book. This exercise is open to all the students, 13 students were shortlisted for competition. The prize winners were felicitated on 26 Jan.

19. Democratic Decision Making Process : The decisions are taken by the Committees formed for the specific purposes – like Local Management Committee, Purchase committee,Admission committees, Grievances Committees, AMC Committees, Prospectus committees etc.

20. Gram Swachhata Abhiyan : This activity was conducted by the NSS students from 18 to 24 Jan 2015 at village Mannatheshwar (Ghogra), in all 60 students participated in this activity.

21. Bridge Courses and Remedial Courses : Need -based bridge Courses and Remedial courses areconducted in various departments.From BBA & BCCA Dept Prof Y.R. Nikam and Prof. A.G. Deshpande conducted remedial course for BBA I for English & Business Communication and Business Economics respectively from 1st Sept 2014 to 18th Sept 2014. English department and Commerce department also conduct such remedial courses.

22. Teachers’ Day is celebrated as ‘Self Governance Day’ on 5 Sept. In this students played the role of Principal, Vice principal and Teachers.

Origin:

Majority of the students of our institution are from difficult backgrounds. We found that their entry level knowledge is meagre and drastic measures are required to make them employable.

Aim:

The aim of these courses is to improve students’ skills and increase their employability.

Programmes:

The courses are conducted after the regular teaching hours and during the vacations. Special Language Lab is established in order to enhance students’skills using ICT. The language is equipped with latest software provide by OREL Technology.

Result:

Regular students show improvement in their skills as well as confidence. Thisintern also increase their motivation in general. This programme adds to the employability of the students and enhance their performance in the examinations in general.

2. Vruttabaddha Kavitanchi Antakshari

Origin:

There has been always a nostalgic feeling about the melodious poems of yester years. The elderly generation has always been disappointing comments about the modern poetry and songs. In order to connect the elderly generations with the institution our Marathi Department organizes Antakshari Competition open to all from the society. This has tremendously increased the literary sensibility of the Marathi Poetry lovers and helped to put thrust upon metre, rhyme. The stakeholders Dharamepth Education Society and Alumni of our college are actively involved in the successful implementation of this programme.

Aim:

Aim of the programme was to revive the memory of the Vruttabaddha Kavita. Involve the elderly generations. Involve elderly generations into competition and increase their interaction with the institution.

Programme:

This year 13 teams including 39 participants participated in the Antakshari Programme

Result:

People appreciated organization of the programme. First three participants were given prizes.
