DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES
A film „Mr. and Mrs. Aiyyar „was shown to students of F.Y, S.Y. and T.Y.B.A. The film shows the impact of communal riots.
A two – day Seminar was organised by the department on the topic - Pracheen evam madyakaleen kavya ka Itihaas , Kavya aur kavi . Various topics were given to students of T. Y. B. A. The students presented papers on the allotted topics.
A lecture on career in Media was organised , Mr. Anand Mishra of Navbharat Times gave guidance about the various courses available and career options in the field of Electronic and Print Media.
A two – Day Workshop was organised by the Dept. for New Syllabus of T. Y. B. A. ( Hindi ) for Semester V and Semester VI on 26th and 27th August 2011. The content analysis for all the new Papers (18 ) was done . Question Paper Pattern was also Finalised there. Question Bank for all the papers were also made. College decided to publish the question Bank .
Hindi Saptah – The following competitions were organized – 03.09. 2011 - Bhashan and Ashu – Bhashan Pratiyogita was organised. Topic was Loktantra and Nibandh Pratiyogita . Topic was „Tagore ka Yogdaan „ 05. 09. 2011 - Kavita – Pratiyogita ( swarachit and Kavi – Rachit ) 06.09.2011 - Vad – Vivad pratiyogita, Topics were: Media kee samvedanheenata ‘ , ‘ Social Networking sites ‘ , ‘ Lokpal Bill ‘ . 07.09. 2011 - Katha Kathan Pratiyogita 14. 09. 2011 - Inter – College Debate Competition on topics : Lokpaal Bill ke daayre Me Pradhanmantree Ko Shaamil Kiya Jaana Chahiye .
Our college being the first Hindi medium college in Mumbai was selected for organizing a guest lecture by HRD Ministry . Mr. Shankar Muni Rai from Chhatisghar was sent to our college to deliver lecture on : „ Hindi Bhasha aur Vartanee Kee ashuddhiyan . He also informed about various schemes for the students available at HRD Ministry. He recited his poems also.
A play was presented by IDEA group. They enacted the story „ Sach ka Inaam
written by renowned Hindi writer Munshi Premchand .

Students of the Department won many prizes at various compettitions organised in the College .
Neelam Shah of T. Y. B. A. received the second Prize in Inter – College Debate Compettition .
Prema Kannouzia and Neelam Gupta of S. Y. B. A. and Pinky Saroj of F. Y. B. A. won Second Prize at Inter – College Yogasan Compettition.
They were selected to represent S. N. D. T. Womens University at National Level yogasan Compettition to Be held at Haryana from 26th September to 9th October. They Won Bronze Medal and Fifth Place there.They also represented Inter – National Level Yogasan Summit and won Accolades there.

COMMERCE DEPARTMENT
DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES:
Visit to Bombay Stock Exchange - 19th July 2011 The students from the Third Year B.Com were taken for an educational visit to the
Bombay Stock Exchange on 19th July 2011. Mr. Aranha Roy Deputy Manager and Dr.
Aditya Shrinivas faculty member BSE Training Institute oriented the students about
the history and overall functioning of BSE.

Lecturers - Swati Vaidya, Ushakiran Tiwari, Sumita Guha, Kashyap Ganatra.
Students visited the centers' pottery making, carpentry workshops and dairy unit,
vermiculture plant, bakery unit and soap production units. Students also saw a model
of Bapu Kuti, a hut designed on the basis of Gandhiji's hut in Gandhi Ashram,
Wardha, Maharashtra.
Industry Visit to Sundaram and Camlin Plant on 26th November, 2011
An educational visit to Tarapur Industrial Area was organized by the college on 26th
November, 2011 for the SYBCom students.
Visit to Sundaram Paper factory
On reaching the plant, the students were introduced to the process of how the books
are made. They were shown the different types of books produced manually and by
machines. The division of labour was executed in a systematic manner.
The raw material paper was processed in machines and bound into final books. The
manager told that the books made by the company are eco- friendly. The students saw
the entire production process and packaging of different varieties of books. Long

books, short books, A 4 size books, drawing books, forms, labeling etc. were shown.
The students got an opportunity to see use of machines and manpower.
Visit to Camlin Plant-
Later the students visited Camlin factory. Different types of paints, water colors, glass
painting, crayons, etc were shown to the students. The students briefed about the
processes involved and were shown the various departments. The making of lead
pencils & erasers were also shown to the students. Overall, it was a great learning
experience.
Visit to SEBI - TYBCOM – 5th January 2012

The students of TYBCOM were taken for a visit to SEBI on 5th January 2012 to
understand the role of SEBI in the development and regulation of financial markets.
The visit covered a presentation by Mr. Arun Shukla Asst. Manager – OIAE, SEBI.
The presentation was followed by a question answer session where the students
interacted with the speaker and got their queries answered.

Tiwari Deepali of SYBA participated in demonstration of fitness activities on 16 th July 2011. TYBA &SYBA Students visited Yusuf mehar ali centre,Tara Panvel on 30 th July 2011. Aneeta Prajapti got 2nd and Shehnaz Khan got 3rd prize in the competition. Chaurasia Chandni of SYBA participated in Youth festival,s one act play competition on 13th September 2011. Tiwari Deepali of SYBA participated in Intercollegiate Yoga tournament on 24-25th September 2011.The competition held at B.M.N. College of home science , Matunga Mumbai.
B.M.S. 13th & 14th January 2012 - Industrial visit to Silvassa - F.Y.BMS & S.Y.BMS On 13th & 14th January 2012 an overnight Stay Industrial visit was organized to
Silvassa. Industries visited included Nissan Copper and Bombay Rayon Ltd. along
with sight-seeing.

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:
The college plans the annual calendar and carries out the activities keeping in view
the goals and objectives of the institution.-

Activities conducted in the academic year 2011-12 are as follows –
Seminars/Workshops and Guest lectures were organized in the college for
students and lecturers from Economics, Commerce, English, Sociology and
Hindi departments. The lecturers and students were encouraged to participate
in the collegiate and inter-university programs.
Students were given special coaching and guidance and motivated to make
presentations in the seminars and workshops.
In order to update students with current issues, Commerce, Sociology,
Economics, English and Psychology departments conducted group discussions
on current issues, presentations in class, viva and quiz.
Enhanced research culture resulted in increased number of teachers taking up
PhD and Minor Research.
Yearly Departmental calendar was prepared along with Academic calendar.
100 hrs compulsory computer course for students.
Essay writing, debate, elocution & poster painting competitions were
organized.
Assignments and projects were given regularly to students during the academic
year.
Hindi Department organised Inter collegiate Debate, Self composed Poetry and
Bhajan competition
Talent show – Ras Phuhar was organized
„Unnati‟ Trade Fair – Exhibition of variety of handicraft articles and foodstuffs
was organized
Students participated in the Youth Festival, Youth Parliament and Street Play
competitions, organized by SNDT Women‟s Universtiy.
Students participated in Leadership Training Camp, Life Skill Education

1. PULSE POLIO PROGRAMME ( PROJECT ) :
The NSS unit undertook Pulse Polio Programme in the „D‟ ward area of Mumbai.
They administered polio drops to the children of south Mumbai on the stipulated
immunization dates.
2. THALASSAEMIA CHECK UP – 24th June, 2011
A Thalassaemia detection camp by Rotary Club was conducted in the college
premises on 24th June, 2011. The Screening for Thalassaemia Minor Report
included a complete Blood count report. Health advice and counselling was given
to students who had Iron Deficiency, anemia, Clotted condition or presence of B-
Thalassaemia Trait.
VISITS
Visit to Mani Bhavan on 15th September & 4th October, 2011
To understand the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and inculcate the value of
patriotism, the NSS Students visited Mani Bhavan, Gamdevi.
It is the place from where Mahatma Gandhi initiated Civil Disobedience,
Satyagraha, Swadeshi, Khadi and Khilafat movements.
Visit to old age home - J.J. Dharamashala – 2nd March, 2012
To sensitize the students towards the community and aged people the volunteers
visited J.J.Dharamshala at Nagpada. They interacted with the inmates of the home
and distributed biscuit packets.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT – (3rd August, 2011)
An Orientation lecture on Disaster Management by Mrs. Sumita Guha was
organized for the NSS students. She emphasized on the importance of effective
Disaster Management system. She explained the extent of damage caused in terms
of human and material loss when major disasters occur. She also gave some inputs
and guidelines to the students to take action when faced by disasters. The lecture
was very informative and useful for the students.
INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION (15th AUGUST, 2011)
The NSS Volunteers celebrated Independence Day. The programme started with
the flag hoisting event. The management members and the Principal spoke on the
occasion and encouraged the students to lead the country towards a bright and
progressive future. This was followed by a cultural presentation in which the
students performed and sang patriotic songs. They spread the feeling of patriotism,
brotherhood and love for the nation.
FLAG RETRIEVAL PROGRAMME – 16th AUGUST, 2011
60 NSS Volunteers conducted the Flag Retrieval Programme in Grant Road Area
after the Independence Day. They collected disposed Flags from the ground,
garbage, etc. in areas near the college, Grant Road Station, August Kranti Maidan,
Cowpatty and Gamdevi Area.
LITERACY PROJECT – 8th September, 2011
Literacy Project, ‘Each One Teach One’ was initiated. 50 NSS volunteers enrolled
for the „Literacy Project‟. It was conducted on a continuous basis throughout the
year. A literacy Kit containing notebooks, stationery and Basic textbooks in Hindi,
English and Mathematics were distributed to the volunteers.
International Coastal Clean-up Campaign- (17th Sept 2011)
B.M. Ruia Girls‟ College in collaboration with Indian Coast Guard Marine
Conservation and Reef Watch conducted a beach clean-up campaign at Girgaon
Chowpatty on 17th September, 2011.

250 students participated in the campaign to Save the Coastal Area by collecting
garbage and creating Environmental Awareness. They collected 400 bags of
garbage.
Street play on ‘SAVE THE GIRL CHILD’
A Street Play on „Save the Girl Child‟ was performed by TYBA NSS volunteers in
the college lane on 19th September, 2011. They enacted a Street – Play written and
Directed by Dr. Santosh Kaul.

Anti-Tobacco Campaign by Salaam Mumbai Foundation on 21st November,
2011-
On 21st November, 2011, the NSS Cell organized a lecture on Anti-Tobacco
Campaign by Salaam Mumbai Foundation. Mr. Ajay Pilankar and Miss Sheetal
gave valuable information about the ill effects of consuming Tobacco.

ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN
On 13th and 14th January, 2012, the NSS Cell conducted Essay, Elocution, Debate
and Poster Painting competitions for creating awareness on the Road Safety
Campaign by the Mumbai Traffic Police. The topics covered were on Issues
related to Traffic and Road Safety, Precautions to be taken to avoid accidents,
Obeying Traffic Rules, Role of Traffic Police, Infrastructure and other
requirements.
Voters ID Card
B.Com and B.A. students filled and submitted forms for Voters ID Card. Some
students received the Voters ID Card in a formal function organized by SNDT
Women‟s University at Churchgate.

35. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling unit :
Orientation lecturers were organized on - for all the classes. The
importance of counseling was explained to them. Counseling on personal level was provided to students as & when required
throughout the academic year and guidance was given to them on problems - personal, emotional, academic, inter personal relationships.
Telephonic counseling was also given to students whenever it was necessary.
Counseling services are extended alumni also.
