Each year this will be updated to reflect the many changes that occur in academic programs, tuition costs, and admissions processes.

Undergraduate Programs Academic Programs

The Undergraduate Studies Program (USP) is for students who want to assess their interests and abilities and explore Purdue programs before selecting a major.

Advisors ensure that students take appropriate coursework as they explore and decide on a field of study.

A student can remain in USP for a maximum of two academic years. The program primarily attracts beginning students, but transfer students with no more than 35 credit hours may also apply.

• In spring 2005, the SAT and ACT tests changed significantly. Students often ask how Purdue accepts these standardized tests for admission consideration

• The new SAT has an added writing section worth 800 points in addition to the verbal (officially renamed critical reading) and math sections, thereby increasing the new SAT total possible score from 1600 for the old test to 2400 for the new

• The new ACT also has a writing component, but the highest possible composite remains 36

• Purdue University accepts either the SAT or ACT, and we require that the applicant’s test score include the writing component

• Students apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It is the only form required and is available on January 1 each year.

• The Preliminary Financial Aid Application is included with the Purdue application and can provide an estimate of a student’s financial aid package at Purdue; it is a planning tool.

• Students should apply for financial aid by March 1. Official award letters from Purdue are mailed by early April.

In accordance with NACAC principles, college representatives will:• State clearly the admissions standards of their institution• State clearly all priority dates for application• Furnish data describing the currently enrolled freshmen class• Not use disparaging comparisons of secondary or post-secondary schools• Conduct conversations with students and parents in a professional manner,

remaining behind or on the sides of table, NOT in the aisles in front of the tables

• Display the informational materials provided by the institution (the display should be in good taste – trinkets such as keychains are prohibited)

• Refrain from recruiting students who are enrolled, registered, have declared their intent or submitted a contractual deposit with other institutions

Purdue University, as a member of the Big Ten Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association, is responsible for ensuring that its student-athletes, faculty and staff, alumni, and friends abide by conference and NCAA regulations.

As a PART member, you meet the NCAA’s definition of a “representative of the University’s athletic interests,” and therefore:

• You may not be involved in any recruitment of prospective student-athletes• You may have contact with prospective student-athletes provided that contact is part of regular

alumni volunteer duty• You may not form special friendships with, or take a particular interest in a prospective

student-athlete because your actions, while merely friendly, could result in the student being ruled ineligible for athletic participation at Purdue and sanctions against Purdue athletic teams

Who is a prospective student-athlete? A person who has started classes for the ninth grade, regardless of his or her ability.

BOTTOM LINE: Do not treat a prospective student-athlete differently than any other prospective student.
