WACT News – December, 2013 -- Page 1
WACTCon 2014 is fast approaching. On January 10 – 11, 2014, we will gather in Verona for learning, networking, commiseration, and just plain fun. Festivities begin on Friday night with a welcome reception at our headquarters hotel, the Holiday Inn Express. This is a great time to catch up with friends, find new ones and of course munch and indulge in libations. Saturday morning and afternoon will see a cornucopia of workshops at the Verona High School Performing Arts Center (see partial list on right). There will be presentations for everyone no matter what their experience or areas of interest. Lunch is included with the registration and will be a time to compare notes and participate in the “always exciting” WACT Annual Meeting. After dinner on your own, it will be time to return to the Performing Arts Center to see the Verona Area Community Theater’s production of Harry Segall’s Heaven Can Wait. Mr. Jordan is checking passengers who are to depart in an airplane for the Hereafter. The routine is interrupted by the arrival of Joe Pendleton, an attractive prizefighter, who refuses to admit he is dead and induces Jordan to look up the "records," which reveal that Joe is not scheduled to arrive for another 60 years! But, as Joe starts to return to earth to continue his fighting, word reaches Heaven that Max Levene, Joe's manager, thinking he had been killed, had Joe's

body cremated, and Joe has no body to return to. Jordan promises to find Joe another body and is informed that the wealthy Jonathan Farnsworth is about to be murdered by his wife. So Joe suddenly finds himself in the home of the financier, visible as Joe to the audience but apparently as Farnsworth to Mrs. Farnsworth, and the public. The comedy begins when the pompous "Farnsworth" unaccountably goes into training as a fighter.
Verona Area High School Performing Arts Center After the performance will be adjudication similar to anAACTFest except there will only be one adjudicator. Following the adjudication, conference attendees will join Heaven Can Wait’s cast and crew at an opening weekend party. There are no scheduled activities on Sunday which will leave the morning for those staying at the Holiday Inn Express to enjoy the hotel’s amenities before heading home with newfound knowledge and stories. Check the WACT website (www.WACT.org) for more and updated details.

Call to Host Future AACTFests
Wisconsin AACTFest 2013 is a thing of
the past and the Badger State acquitted itself with distinction in performing their once a decade chance to host Region III AACTFest. So it is time to sit back and relax – right? Au contraire - now is the time to find a host for Wisconsin AACTFest 2015. Hosting an AACTFest is a good opportunity to show off what your group can do and can be a good fundraiser at the same time. Hosting an AACTFest can seem daunting at first glance but when broken down into its individual components it turns out to be much less daunting. And to guide inexperienced hosts through the process, WACT has a good selection of knowledgeable people to help. These people can lend guidance from “Do you think we should do this?” to waving goodbye to the last group heading for home at the end of the festival. The first and best time for hosting an AACTFest is the earlier you start the more you can do and the easier it is.

AACTWorldFest is a world-wide community theatre festival which occurs in Venice, Florida, USA. Shows from around the globe will travel for the week to this resort haven on Florida’s southwest coast. As many as 15 top-quality international troupes will present up to 30 performances in one week! Each group may perform in its native language, but all productions are chosen so that anyone can follow what’s happening … in whatever theatre form it’s presented. Stage and screen legend Ben Vereen will present a master class in musical theatre performance. Plus, there will be 15-20 workshops and master classes involving a variety of theatre forms. Registrants may have the opportunity to learn about Chinese opera, commedia dell-arte, or multi-media influences on modern theatre. Mix in delightful dinners, parties, after-glow gatherings, impromptu drum circles, and “lobby gabs” and you have the recipe for life-long friendships! This all will take place June 16 – 21, 2014 at the Venice Theatre in Venice Florida. For more information check the Venice Theatre website at venicestage.com.
