THE SPIRITUAL bookshelf PARTNERING WITH NATURE
THE WILDEST PATH TO RECONNECTING WITH THE
EARTH
By Catriona MacGregor
Nature is a portal to an infinite and timeless realm where we
can gain insights into a larger reality that is beyond our day-t
day comprehension. Even today, there are ways that we canbecome more closely attuned to the natural world and lift the
veil between us and the underlying mystery and beauty of the
world. ~ Catriona MacGregor
In Partnering with Nature: Wild Path to Reconnecting with th
Earth, Catriona MacGregor, proposes some significant
questions to the reader: 1) "Is our sole purpose on Earth to gai
physical mastery of the world for our own comfort? 2) Are w
here to dominate nature and the "lower" animals? While I
pondered these questions in my own mind, I found arestlessness develop within my own soul. Have I been a good
fair, and loyal partner to nature? Did I understand that I am no
simply a peaceful observer, but a co-creator? At that moment
realized that I needed to commune with nature in a way that I
had not done so before. This was my opportunity to truly
become aware that I am part of nature and that I am one with
just as it is a part of and one with me. This is the beauty and
importance of this book. The author asks questions which mo
us beyond our "beliefs" into truth and ultimately into love. In
the tradition of wise sages and philosophers, she asks us tocontemplate our own existence and impact upon all creation.
"As species," writes Catriona, "we are defined by our capacit
to love. Our role on Earth is to love, appreciate, and serve the
great diversity of life as if it were our own life - because it is.

This love for nature began as a young child for her and like poet and author Alice Walker, Catriona has had her
own mystical experiences with nature. For as long as I can remember, I have been in love with nature and
touched by her. The feeling that something magical and significant was right outside my door filled my waking
hours, she says in this beautiful reflection. Nature played a loving role in awakening Catriona from a deep sadne
and undeniable sense of loss after the suicide of her father. While sitting in the woods and looking up at the trees
she began to feel a connectedness to all life and a "knowing" that death is simply a continuum of an invisible
thread that surrounds us all. This is an interesting thread that Catriona pursues in her book. The idea that nature
heals and awakens us through "touches" from the Divine to open a light within to our soul is captured in gracefuwaves of throughout this manuscri pt. It is in this mix of autobiography and poignant self-exploration one
discovers the wealth contained within Catriona's work and within themselves. Partnering with Nature is a wildly
meditative mix of transcendatalism and shamanism. The voices and spirits of Henry David Thoreau and Ralph
Waldo Emerson speak softly throughout the pages of this blend of self-reflection and communion with nature. T
wisdom in this work is a baptism of in-depth and profound wisdom that can only be gained by contemplative
thought sitting quietly on nature's shore.
To all that would turn the pages of this book, Catriona has but one hope, that you would gain a greater awareness
of your own connection to nature, join her in fostering a new ethic - one that revers all life on earth.
Once you pick up this book, you will be hard pressed to remove it from your side.
My favorite quotes from Partnering with Nature:
"Partnering with nature means opening up to an ongoing conversion with nature, listening to and learning from
everything, from the smallest living being to the Earth herself.
"Divinity is not of some other place, but is found on Earth, in the gentle wind, the life-giving water, the animals,
and the plants all around us."
In this age of scientific triumph, our daily connection with the Earth has diminished alarmingly. We are cut off
from nature, separate from the animals and plants that surround us, making us strangers in our own home.
