The Growing New Farmers Program provides introductory level classroom and hands-on training in farm production and business planning. The program also offers an optional apprenticeship placement with a mentor farmer to provide extended job-based training. This combination of classroom time, field work and apprenticeship placement has proven to be invaluable when venturing in to the world of small- to mid-sized sustainable farming.

Since inception in 2010, the program has launched more than 165 farmers and local food system leaders into the

Lowcountry. Numerous new small farms, farmers markets, and dozens of jobs have been created as a result, feeding our community and contributing to the unique culture that we all know and love.

Your support of the Growing New Farmers Program allows Lowcountry Local First to greatly subsidize the cost of the program to all participants, lowering the barriers of entry and cultivating a diverse participation across all ages, backgrounds and financial ability.
