The Complete Guide to Learn the Steps Involved in a Fire Ritual

Homa is a Sanskrit word, which refers to any kind of "ritual in offerings" that is made into a

consecrated fireplace. It can also be referred to as Homam/ havan. Homas are an important

religious practice in Hinduism, where they are a part of most of the ceremonies, in all creeds

    and castes.

During a Homa, various rituals are performed successively in order to trigger various

positive energies and also to develop the right sensation during the Homa. Some of these

rituals are common and must be practiced before any fire ritual. After these rituals are

executed, the main Homa would instigate; wherein the rituals differ depending on which

deity you want to invoke. The common rituals for all Homas are described below.

    Why Fire Rituals?

Homas is an ancient form of sacrament, stemming from the Vedic Science. A Homa can

help you get well, have good relationships, find a partner, have children and it may even

remove bad karma or negative aspects in a horoscope or with Vastu...

An essential part of the fire ritual is the spiritual connection the devotee crafts with the

divine. Most often that contact is made possible through an external object: a facet of

nature, a figurine, a vessel, a painting of God and so on.

The Almighty is then invited to the vortex by chanting mantras. There are a lot of standard

procedures in a fire ritual and they are designed to invoke the devotional aspect of the

devotee of worship and devoutness. It is essential that one spotlessly cleans all the Pooja

items: the lamps, the idol, the fruits offered as Prasad, and make the necessary

    arrangements.Steps to Perform a Homa:

    1. Pavitra Dharanam

At the start of the Homa, the performer as well as the other people who are participating in

the Homa, pray for the cleansing of their heart and soul and seek divine blessings of their

    ancestors and other divine beings.

  • 8/3/2019 Parvati Homa

    3/20

Having prayed thus, they wear a ring made of Darbha grass,on the ring finger of their right

hand, which is known to repel negative energies.

    2.Achamanam

Specially made vessels called Panchapatras are set aside filled with water. (Note: during a

Homa, iron or steel vessels are not to be used because of their low spiritual energies.

Silver, copper, or a mixture of 5 metals is best preferred.) Water is taken with the left hand

with a special copper spoon called udraneeya on to the cavity of the right palm and

sipped three times chanting the names of Lord Vishnu. This practice is to purify ones body

and mind and is then followed by siromarjanam wherein the performers of the ritual take

water in the udraneeya and sprinkle water on their own heads with their right thumb. The

mantra chanted here means, Whatever be the state of my body; sacred or unsacred, by

the very chanting of the divine names, I sanctify this body of mine in order to obtain

auspicious energies. One must make sure the Achamanam must be performed facing the east or the north

and never facing the west or the south.

The following twelve names of the Lord should be uttered, touching each limb of the body

with a particular finger (the priests will specify upon the finger to be used). This signifies that

all the senses are dedicated to the service of God. When the senses are made introspective

instead of going outwards to the external objects, the natural bliss of the soul will be

manifested. The names to be chanted are:

    Kesava/ Narayana/ Madhava/ Govinda/ Vishnu/ Madhusoodhana/ Trivikrama / Vamana /

    Sridhara / Hrishikesa Padmanabha/ Damodara

    3. Ganapati Prarthana/ Mahaganapathy Pooja

In the Hindu scriptures, the elephant headed God, Ganesha is always worshipped in the

beginning of any ritual, and for his blessings to ensure that the whole procedure would

move smoothly unhindered by any external obstacles at any stage. Lord Ganesha is

invoked into a conical figure made by mixing turmeric powder and water. Turmeric is

considered very propitious and auspicious; and is therefore used to represent Lord

Ganesha. Thereafter, a method of worship involving sixteen steps is performed to please

Lord Ganesha. This is called Shodashopachara Pooja. All these steps are symbolical

representations of the various forms of expressing reverence like offering the deity a golden

throne to be seated, washing his feet, washing his hands, offering him water to drink,

ceremonial bathing with sacred waters, offering new clothes, anointing him with sandal

paste and other perfumes, adorning of jewels, worshipping with flowers, offering of fragrant

incense, lighting the lamp, offering food, fruits and sweet drinks, chanting his praises,

offering Aarthi and finally prostrating to him and seeking his blessings.

Prayer to be chanted while praying to Lord Ganesha:

Suklam Baradharam Vishnum Sashivarnam Chaturbhujam Prasanna vadanam

    Dhyayet Sarva Vighnoposhantaye

    4. Kalasha (Sacred Pot) Pooja

This is a very important step towards the Homa, for it is here that we invoke the main deity

of the Homa. If it is a Subramanya Homa, Lord Muruga is invoked; and in a Kala Bhairava

Homa, Lord Kala Bhairava is invoked. The deity is invoked, energized and adored in the

Kalasha, which is a sacred copper pot filled with water. A coconut is placed over the

Kalasha surrounded by 5 or 7 mango leaves. This Kalasha is further decorated with flowersand a cloth is swathed over it. It is then placed facing the North- Eastern corner of the Homa

    or the sacrificial pit.

The significance of Kalasha is that it absorbs all the positive energies generated during the

Homa. The divine water (with immense healing powers) in the Kalasha is then sprinkled

upon and distributed to the participants at the conclusion of the Homa.

    5. Sankalpa, declaration of intent

The Sankalpa is the most important part in a Homa. The entire ritual is carried along with

    the strong will and wish of the participants. Each Homa is performed for a definite purpose;

and it is this purpose that the performer and participants clearly hold within their minds as

    they take Sankalpa.

It is at this time that the participants of the sacred Fire Ritual get to pray for their wishes like

God, grant me with power, knowledge and riches, Let the Almighty bless me with a good

married life and a well matching spouse, and so on

    5. Avahanam/ welcoming the Deity

Avahanam is that stage of the Homa; wherein the Lord is formally and ritualistically invited

to the premises of the Homa. Mantras are chanted to invite that particular Deity with

    immense dedication and godliness.

    6. Agni Pratishtapanam and Dhyanam

Here, the sacrificial pit is sanctified by chanting mantras, even before the Fire God Agni is

  • 8/3/2019 Parvati Homa

invoked. Sticks from selected trees are only used for Homas. Mostly, the sticks (Samidh) of

    the Pipal tree are used.

Amidst mantra chanting, the performer gently blows the red-hot Samidh and the fire mounts

up. Thereafter, ghee (clarified butter) is offered and the participants meditate upon Lord

Agni. The success of a Homa very much depends upon how the participants relate to the

fire god Agni, because he serves as the medium between this mortal world and the other

    mystical worlds.

It is at this stage that the main deity; may it be Lord Siva, Vishnu, Muruga, Ganapathy,

Hanuman or so are meditated upon. The priests will make sure that the Homa is being

performed abiding to the ancient scripts and conventions. Flowers are offered at each

invocation of a new mantra; usually signifying the glorification of the Lords attributes!

    7. Namaskaram/ obeisanceThe denial of ones ego and surrender is part of the ritual as the devotee does a full

Namaskaram (prostrating in front of the Homa pit).

    8. Naivedyam/ Offering Food

Towards the end of the Homa, Naivedyam is offered to the Lord. Usually it includes a

Payasam (kheer), cooked rice, and other savories prepared for the holy function.

This is symbolically offered to the Lord first and only after this part of the ceremony do

    people consume the food.

    9. Aarthi, Offering of Lights

The aarthi is the final part of a Pooja where in a camphor is lit and waved to the idol of the

deity to the accompaniment of the brass bell. After it waved in the direction of the idols, all

the members of the family take turns to almost touch the flame with deep reverence.

    10.Purnahuti/ Conclusion

The Homa is concluded with a Purnahuti, Aarthi and offering the Thamboolam to Lord Agni.

While the priests continue with the last of the mantras, the fire in the pit calms down and

    turns into a gentle flame.

    11. Visarjana, dismissal-farewell.

Just as we so ritualistically and formally invited the God to the premises; we thank him for

blessing us and also bid him on his farewell back to his abodes.

  • 8/3/2019 Parvati Homa

    6/20

Thereby, we conclude to say that a Homa is an act of complete surrender and reverence to

the Lord in which people may opt to pray for their welfare or for the worlds as well.

Below mentioned are the extra steps which might/ might not be performed in a Homa. One

must also note that the steps in a homa can vary depending upon the purpose or the deity

    invoked.

    1.Pradakshinam, circumambulation

Pradakshinam consists of circling around the deity and the Fire trench used for worship.

The performers and participants go round the Fire pit three times in the clockwise direction

and prostrate in front of the Homa pit.

    2.Abhishekam/ Bathing Gods idol

An "Abhishekam" is conducted by priests, and is a holy ritual ablution amidst the chanting of

mantras. Usually, offerings such as milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, Sesame oil, rosewater, sandalwood paste are poured, among other offerings depending on the type of Abhishekam

    being performed.

    3. Dhoopam/ Incense Offering

A rich stream of scented smoke that is lit for the duration of the Pooja is offered to the deity

of the homa. It is said that the fragrance induces or compels the mind of the devotee

towards the holiness of the Homa.

    4.Deepam / Offering Lamp

A well decorated lamp lit on its five sides with five wicks is offered to the Deity of the Homa.

    5.Archana, chanting holy names

Similar to pooja is archana. Archana and pooja are the same spiritual offerings except that

archanas are performed at temples and during Homas. A devotee will make offerings like

fruits, flowers, coconut, beetle leaves etc. The devotee will then receive the food offerings

back in the form of prasad or blessings from the Deity.

Ancestors to Bless You: TarpanamSoul Genetics: Who is controlling your Soul?

Tarpanam - Special Message from Dr. PIllai

    What is Tarpanam?

It is strongly believed that your dead ancestors are governing your

destiny! The greatest contribution of India to the world is her spiritual

science. No civilization, however old it may be, has ever attained the

level of sophistication, reached by the yogis and siddhas of India.

What makes Maha Tarpanam so different- So much more profitable- Than any other remedy you

have performed? We hold solid proof that performing Tarpanam Rituals works miracles in

    your life!

This is the most critical ritual one can perform for any departed friend or relative. It is essential to

perform this ritual 15 days after death. It will empower and release your loved ones' soul for great

power to transition to the afterlife and next birth. If the departed person died in a saddened or

disturbed state of mind, this ritual is critical to help them release emotional pain which binds them to

the world and prevents normal soul transition. If you have missed that date and still wish to perform,

please let us know as the ritual will need to be intensified.

The yogis and siddhas paid equal attention to the bodily existence; while one is alive and alsothedisembodied existenceafter one dies.

The siddhas were an esoteric group of people who could appear at different places at differenttimes.

They could even take the form of an old man or a boy, and return to the earth plane for a fewhours visit.

It is said that these siddhas hang out in the subtle forms in many places in the southern India, likeThiruvanamallai temple,Koli Hills and, Podhigai Hills (Kutralam).

If you are destined to meet them at those places, they will show up for you and bless you!

Rules for Shraddha or Shardhar Ritual

For 15 days until the ritual is performed, all family members should:

Not visit any temples or pilgrimage places (except churches)

    Remain vegetarian

    Not consume alcohol

    Practice Celibacy

Please Note: We will not be shipping any prasads after the Tarpanam, as it is generally considered

as inauspicious to possess the prasad.

    How To Perform Home Tarpanam

    No Comments Tarpanam 2011

On the New Moon Day, the departed spirits come to the earth plane and stay with their biological relatives from

sunrise to sunset. Fasting during the new moon day will alert your consciousness to be in communion with their

    spirits.

No fasting for our Ancestors however as they crave a special food; an offering which comprises of black sesame

seeds, holy water from rivers and oceans, tulsi leaves, sandalwood paste, sacred dharba grass and some coins. These

offerings need to be given to them sincerely and conscientiously for all the 14 days and 15 nights.

When living on the earth plane, even great Siddhas like Agastiya, Maha Rishis like Vasistha, Avatars like Krishna

and Rama, appreciated their ancestors through rituals involving this tarpanam food.

    How To Perform Tarpanam

Choose which version resonates with you. Dr. Pillai has suggested to at least practicing the longer version of

theTarpanam ritualduring the New Moon phase each month.

Performing either version anytime between sunrise to sunset once every day, especially on New Moon days is

highly advisable. However, it is suggested to not perform tarpanam during non-daylight time. Do it as often as

    possible on New Moon days.

The purpose of doing this is to release ancestors to a higher plane. When they go into the light they send you their

    blessing.

Your dead ancestors are governing your destiny. The greatest contribution of India to

the world is her spiritual science. No civilization, however old it is, has ever attained the level of sophistication

reached by the yogis and siddhas of India. The yogis and siddhas paid equal attention to the bodily existence whileone is alive and also the disembodied existence after one dies. They also had knowledge of soul travel while still in

embodiment. Sometimes they left their body in a safe place in a cave and entered another body. At other times they

turned the body into light and disappeared. Once having disappeared they could momentarily assume a human body

like an old man or a boy and return to the earth plane for a few hours visit. There are many places in Southern India,

like Thiruvanamallai, Koli Hills and Kutralam where these siddhas hang out in the subtle forms. If you are destined

to meet them at those places they will show up and bless you.

Siddhas have a special relationship with the earth plane. They are constantly involved in making the earth plane a

better place for the souls who come to inhabit the earth. The siddhas are the source for medicine, astrology,

alchemy, yoga, rituals for worshiping different deities for different purposes, etc. Siddhas emphasize that the most

important element in human life is the destiny of the individual soul. Every soul has its own unique destiny. Every

soul has its own biological and spiritual baggageattached to it. How you look, what diseases you will have are

localized within the genes that the soul creates. But the soul lives simultaneously as spirit existence as well. In other

words you have the biological existence defined by the material body as well as a spiritual existence defined by theinvisible spirit. The soul living in the physical and non-physical existence governs your destiny.

The siddhas contribution to the spirit existence of the soul is

amazing. When a person dies he takes with him all old good and bad thought forms and experiences that he had

while alive. If someone had been a real bad person his soul starts the torture experience right after death. If one had

lived a luxurious life, committing all kinds of crimes, that person will have the worst type of shadow existence. This

life in shadow form after death invariably is a troublesome experience. The most intriguing thing is that there are a

host of your ancestors who are in shadow forms and hanging in the mid-air. Some of them because of their evil

nature are hanging upside down. This pain experienced the ancestors spirits directly affects your destiny while you

are on the earth plane. Logically it does not make sense that you should suffer for some misdoings of your great,

great grandfather. But the siddhas claim this is soul genetics. You are your ancestor both biologically and spiritually.

I have been returning to this earth plane to find ways and means to remove pain

and sorrow for the human beings. In this life I am convinced that until you clean the souls of your ancestors, you are

not going to free yourself from suffering. I have a vacuum cleaner that can cleanse the souls of your grandfather,

grandmother or your great, great grandfather. The vacuum cleaner is calledTarpanam. Tarpanam means food

offering for the ancestors. During the new moon day these departed spirits come to the earth plane at dawn andleaves during sunset. They do in fact hang out with you or with your brother or sister or any other relative. The

Siddhas reveal that even your enemies in your current life, are your reincarnated ancestors for whom you did not

Tarpanam. You can feed them with black sesame seeds, rice and water. This simple act will help change your

destiny. It gives me immense joy to share this knowledge with you.

Although you can do the Tarpanam yourself, I recommend that you do it with the help of a specialist in Kerala. The

Kerala priests are adept in Tarpanam. They literally talk to the dead spirits to see that they are satisfied and are ready

to move to the next stage leaving their shadow existence.

Dr. Pillai gave the feedback for this special Tarpanam Ritual, as he kept vigil for two nights to help the spirits to

move to a higher plane. He is happy over the performance of Tarpanam. Dr. Pillai says that we need to do

Tarpanam very regularly to free ourselves from health, money, and relationship problems.

Pradosham literally means the removal of sins. These times are the windows of opportunity

to remove karma or karmic energies that limit our potential in this current life.

    The 3 Levels of Pradosham

Each energy level indicates how much karma may be released at that time. All levels are

designed to help speed our evolution and make our lives easier and happier.

First Level:All Pradoshams occur between 1-1/2 hours before and right up until the

moment of sunset in the time zone where you are physically.

The Middle Level:These Pradoshams occur twice each month - on the 13th moon day

after the New Moon and after the Full Moon.

Check out our 2011 Calendar to ensure you get the date correct and that you're up to date

on all the other astrologically significant dates.

The Supreme Level:Shani Pradosham and Soma Pradoshams occurs when one of the

13th moon days occurs on a Saturday or a Monday respectively. The planet Saturn is

considered an Agent of Karma who delivers many of life's tougher lessons to help us refine

and evolve our souls. Pradosham time are measured by the phases of the Moon. Shani Pradosham - When 13th Moon falls on Saturday

It is believed that Shiva has more influence over Saturn on this day and can cause Saturn to

loosen or release entirely some of the karmic bonds that limit us. It is also thought that the

first Pradosham was on a Saturday and observing this time transports us back to time of theChurning of the Milky Ocean.

Soma Pradosham - When 13th Moon falls on Monday

Monday is known to be time to worship Shiva, it is the day ruled by His consort, the

Goddess Parvati who rules over the Moon. The Moon rules emotions and emotions

influence thought. Karma is created by thought.

Karma, Pradosham and Saturn: The Inextricable Link

Pradosham literally means Removal of Sins.

Pradosham times are the windows of opportunity to remove karma or karmic energies that limit our

potential in this current life. It is the time that Shiva absorbs the karma from people. The twilight,

pradosham, marks the end of the day light and beginning of night. Day is ruled by Gods, angels and

saints while night is ruled by evil spirits.

The twilight is the time of Shiva when he absorbs the day and night, good and evil and all opposites into

oneness. This time of transition is also one of transcendence. The twilight time is also called End Time

when earth ends. No one can afford to miss this powerful time on a daily basis.

The times occur daily as well as on 13th Moons.

Pradosham timings provide the ideal opportunities to dissolve karmas. Be in a meditative mode during

pradosham time and use the powerful chant of "Thiru Neela Kantam" Since we accrue karmas every day,

karma removal is an ongoing process; quite like cleaning your house or brushing your teeth.

These Karma Busting windows of opportunities called Pradoshams occur daily and on 13th Moons.

    Why Have Karma Removed?

    16/20

The ultimate purpose of our human life is God realization. This is an often repeated statement. But

Siddhas tell you that you can get to your life purpose only when your karma has been wiped clean, and

the time is ripe for grace to flow to you. When that happens an intense flowering happens, and both the

material and spiritual worlds open up for you. You have a choice then on the abundance that you are

    presented with.

Whether you take the spiritual or material route, one thing is certain: you have to completely eliminate

your karma to even to get there. Pradosham rituals give a great opportunity to build a road to prosperity

    and true happiness.

Pradosham is every 13th Moon and provides a grace period in whichextreme karma bustingcan

happen.Soma Pradoshamor pradosham that falls on a Monday is considered particularly powerful

    toremove karmic mental afflictions.

    The Goddess of the Mind

The ruler or "overlord" of the Moon is Shiva's consort, Parvati. She is the source of creative energy and is

a dynamic extension of Shiva onto this universe. The Moon controls emotions and mentality. To

master your mind you must first dissolve your karmas. Karmas are thoughts, deeds and actions which are

stored in your permanent records or your energetic signature.Once cleared Shakti or powerful energy

represented by the Goddess, can flow uninterrupted into all aspects of your life.

    The Master of Time

Lord Shiva is shown wearing thecrescent moonin his hair. The waxing and waning of the Moon reveals

the time cycle through which creation evolves from the beginning to the end.Lord Shiva has mastered

time symbolizing the Eternal Reality beyond timeWhat is Karma?

Why do some people have a successful career, loads of money, a seemingly great romantic life and

radiant health and vitality while many others suffer for the want of one or many of these?

    This is due to karma.

Karma rules all aspects of human life like health, wealth, education etc

"Karma is your pre-disposition and is one of the primary influences which decides whether you will have

money, relationship etc."~ Dr. Pillai, founder of AstroVed

Dr. Pillai goes on to say that everyone has a choice to live his/her old karma or create a new one.

Because they do not know the technology to change their old karma, they simply live their old karma

    until they die.

Karma is not just a metaphysical philosophy; it is real. Whatever you think becomes a reality in the

invisible space-time complex of your soul. Then it manifests in life after an appropriate lapse of time. It is

extremely important to remain positive and only nurture positive thoughts. There is a danger of the

  • 8/3/2019 Parvati Homa

negative thoughts catching up to us and inflicting us in this life or in a life to come. It is the thought

process that creates karma. It is the planets that influence thought.

    Saturn, the Agent of Karma

"For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction".- Newton's Third Law of Motion

This law in physical science can also be said to represent the Law of Karma in the spiritual sciences.

Saturn is viewed as the agent and administrator of Karmic Law. It is Saturn who stands at the Gates of

Initiation, ready to put all who aspire to a higher state of consciousness to the test.

Saturn is the farthest planet visible from the Earth with the naked eye. Its rings are symbolic of limitations

and represent the Law of Karma. It is impossible to move out to the outer edges of space without first

passing though Saturn's rings.enter the more advanced levels of consciousness without first passing

    through Saturn's rings.

A person must fulfill the responsibilities of personal karma with limitations before moving into a more

advanced level of consciousness, or an unlimited, higher reality.

Karmic debt does not permit us to go beyond our limited consciousness. However Saturn's lessons give

opportunity. It is by understanding and working with Saturn that we can find balance with past karma and

can go forward consciously to a more refined way of self-expression as an individual and collectively.

As we progress through life, we often find that it is through restrictions and the pain which comes from

thwarted desires or aspirations, that we develop a greater understanding of the Laws of Life. No pain no

    gain.

The structure and administration of these Laws is also under the rulership of Saturn. The sign and house

position of Saturn in your natal chart will reveal much about the nature of the areas where successful

work has been achieved (positive aspects to and from Saturn) or where work still has to be done (hard

    aspects or conjunctions with Saturn).

Are you among those who want to make conscious and successful decisions? Decisions which bring

you, closer to your desired goals? If you are, then identifying your good and bad planets can be a

wise decision to take, which can give you some crucial information about the planets positions.

It's vital to know the manner by which the planets affect your life. If a planet's position is placed wellin your birth chart & is a good planet, it will help you to taste success in all your endeavors.

Similarly if a planet's position is not well placed, it will bring unfavorable results in life during its

periods. It may affect you in a stressful, uncomfortable, even painful manner until you perform

remedies and begin to appease them.

The factors that decide whether the planets are good or bad are:

The Placement of the planet or planet positions

The Position of the house (with respect to the Ascendant)

Its Strength in its own sign, Friendly sign or in Exalted sign

    The Transits of the planets

An experienced astrologer will help you identify the good and bad planetary positions, at the glimpse

of your horoscope/ natal chart. Identifying your good and bad planets will give you an idea about the

favorable and unfavorable planets in your birth chart; moreover, in what way these indications or

    matters are connected with you.

In further, you will receive remedial measures to get the blessings from a particular planet which can

help you to get closer to your desired goals.

    Technology to Remove Old Karma

Pradosham timings provide the ideal opportunities to dissolve karmas. Since we accrue karmas everyday, karma removal is an ongoing process; quite like cleaning your house or brushing your teeth.

"Thiru Neela Kantam" - the Karma Busting Mantra

time during the dusk period. 108 times is considered the minimum or you can do 10,008.

You can opt to have "Thiru Neela Kantam" written by proxy for you.Proxy Mantra Writing helps with

busting your karma as well as creating good dharma for you. Perform daily abishekam during this time by

pouring milk or water over a Shiva Lingam while chanting the mantra.

    Pradosham Every 13th Moon

AstroVed's Expert Vedic Priests perform Special Poojas on the 13th Moon, both waxing and waning

phases for Pradosham. Specific Vedic chants are recited, the correct authentic offerings are made

including water, sandalwood powder, milk, yogurt, honey etc.

Shani Pradosham- When 13th Moon falls on Saturday

It is believed that Shiva has more influence over Saturn on this day and can cause Saturn to loosen or

release entirely some of the karmic bonds that limit us. It is also thought that the first Pradosham was on

a Saturday and observing this time transports us back to time of the Churning of the Milky Ocean.

Soma Pradosham - When 13th Moon falls on Monday

rules over the Moon. The Moon rules emotions and emotions influence thought. Karma is created by

    Makkaral Temple

Makkaral, a temple about 100 miles away from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, has

been identified by Baba as the vortex with the energy to remove karma

very fast. Jnanasambanda, the child prodigy saint/siddha from earlier days in

Tamil Nadu, mentioned Makkaral as the fastest karma-removing vortex. Lord

Shiva appeared here as a golden lizard, and the temple tower has statues

showing that story. The image of the Shiva Linga is peculiar at this temple.

Rather than rounded at the top, it is pointed upward like a lizard tail or like a

    sword blade.

The mantra to chant: "Makkaral Shivayanama"

    Koyambedu Temple

    1 = 10,000

It is said that 1 Pradosham ritual at Koyambedu Temple is equivalent to performing 10,000

Pradosham rituals. Nandhi, Shiva's vehicle and Commander in Chief of Shiva's Army plays a role in the

establishment of the temple in this particular location.

Once in near ruin, the temple in Chennai where the first Pradosham Ritual occurred is experiencing a

renewal. Dr. Pillai, the founder of AstroVed identified the temple years ago as being a very powerful

    vortex for karma removal.

In the story of the Churning of the Milky Ocean,

Nandhi was the one who carried the poison to Shiva at His request. After Shiva drank the poison, He fell

down and Parvati grabbed his throat to stop the flow, and that is why the Blue Throat.

At that same moment, Nandhi had a thought that if he carried the poison to Shiva and is not affected by it,

then maybe he is more powerful than Shiva.

Nandhi immediately went mad and ran around kicking wildly. Parvati managed to put a ring through his

nose and tame him, bringing him back to sanity.

It was at this spot of Koyambedu Temple where Nandhi rests to this day. His statue here depicts a

peaceful smile. During the Pradosham ritual, both the Shiva Lingam and the Nandhi statue are given an

    abishekam,

Shiva's energy flows through Nandhi during this time. It is symbolically represented by Nandhi carrying

Shiva on his back. Nandhi represents Dharma. This is action with righteousness which is the opposite of

accruing karma through wrong action. The world is out of balance now with evil and negativity being

    predominant.
