Pastel WORKSHOPsby Nancy clauss
Friday Oct. 22 and Sunday Oct. 24, 2004
MAXIMUM 10 STUDENTS PER DAY,
VERY INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION,
IN NANCY’S PERSONAL STUDIO
Scottsdale pastelist Nancy Clauss uses the purest painting medium, pastel. With the com-
bination of 400-grit stained sandpaper and pastel’s vibrant colors, she creates beautiful
scenes of the Southwest. Her most popular subjects are cacti in bloom, pottery still life,
desert landscapes and people.
Nancy’s aesthetic experiences in the Southwest are very much a part of her
work. She has studied with many prominent artists, and she attributes much of her
success to the varied instruction. She is a juried member of several pastel societies
across the country, including the Arizona Pastel Artists Association, and is a juried
member of the Arizona Artists Guild.
Artist’s Statement: “As far back as I can recall, my art has been a way to express
myself. My brightly colored paintings can tell some of my innermost feelings, that
words cannot explain. Most of my life I have fought shyness, and now, with much
training, my art has forced me out of my shell. I have met many people who have
inspired me, both in class and in marketing. Now there are more avenues to explore in my artistic
growth. Every day is a valuable answer in this world of many questions.”
Class description: All levels of experience are welcome. It is possible to create a pastel paint-
ing in one day. We will learn the basics of color, composition, perspective and value, as well as the
specific skills relative to this medium, while having FUN. Don’t miss this adventure in creating!

bership.
