Youth Pastor: Jusn Beville Children’s Director: Amanda Beville Happy New Year! Believe it or not 2016 is here! Do you have any new year’s resolutions? I am excited about what 2016 may bring. I have been working on a new sermon series to start off the year. The series will be called “The Explicit Gospel.” I have been inspired to do this after reading a book by this title written by Matt Chandler, pastor of the Village Church in Dallas, Texas. The book came out of an experience that Chandler had at a baptism service at his church. At this service, the people being baptized would share their testimonies before they were baptized. From several of the ones being baptized, Chandler heard the same kind of testimony; it went something like this. “I grew up in church; we went every Sunday morning and night; we even went to Wednesday prayer, Vacation Bible School, and youth camp. If the doors were open, we were there. I was baptized when I was six, seven, or eight, but didn’t understand what the gospel was, and after a while I lost interest in church and Jesus and I started walking in open sin. Someone recently sat me down and explained or invited me to this church and I heard the gospel for the first time.” I believe that what passes for Christianity in many churches today is talk about Jesus and about being good and avoiding bad---especially about feeling good about oneself—and God factored into all of that. For many people today the meaning of the gospel is assumed but has never been taught or proclaimed as central. As pastor of James River Baptist I want to make the meaning of the Gospel as clear as I possibly can to our church and to the people of our community. So I am beginning this year by doing a series called the Explicit Gospel. January Music Notes

A special “thank you” to the Worship Choir and all

who had a part in making “Breath of Heaven” a

beautiful experience of worship and adoration of the

King. As we enter a new year, may we continue to

examine our hearts and offer our lives to Him as He

calls us to obedience.

Beginning January 6, our Worship Choir will

begin working on some new hymn arrangements, as

well as our new Palm Sunday musical, “Champion

of Love.” Please come join us on Wednesdays at

8:00 PM. If others would like to join us for the mu-

sical and cannot rehearse at that time, please let us

know. We can provide CDs and other rehearsal

times, as needed.

From the Children’s Director

JRBC family,

It has been an exciting month in the children's

ministry as we have celebrated the birth of Jesus!

The children enjoyed the Christmas musical, carol-

ing at Dominion Village, and the Christmas Party.

In January our new security system will be in place.

It will be very beneficial to the safety of our children.

It will require that each parent drops off and picks up

their child. We will also be resuming RA's and GA's

as well as Sunday night Bible Drill in January. We

are still in need of a few men and a few ladies to

help both Wednesday and Sunday night. We will be

beginning The Gospel Project Extended at the 9 am

and 11 am hour on Sunday mornings. We are look-

ing to fill a few spots at the 11 am hour - the open

spaces are posted outside of the kids room, please

take a look! January will be an exciting month and I

look forward to serving alongside the JRBC family

as we make it a great year in Kidztown! Please don't

hesitate to contact me when needed!

Grateful, Amanda Beville
