From the Desk of Fr. Mark
Hi, everyone. Last week I talked about Christmas songs. This week I am thinking about Christmas movies to prepare me for Christmas. My sister goes for the Hallmark channel and makes no bones about crying with every adventure. I'm not sure why she cries as she has seen every one of them a hundred times. My least favorite is "Elf" (I can't handle those tights) while my favorite is "It's a Wonderful Life." I know al-most every line by now. Jimmy Stewart says many of the lines twice for special emphasis. The story is about George Bailey who, under duress, wishes that he had never
been born. He is granted his wish by Clarence the an-gel. George realizes how much he would have missed if he had never been born. He would have missed a wife, chil-dren, Zuzu's petals and even hardship. Life is full of life. George finds out how full a life can be when sur-rounded by caring people. He is the richest man in town. From a Christmas perspective, I always think of the birth of Jesus. What would have happened if He had never been born? George Bailey's world turned upside down. Would my world be any different if I didn't recog-nize the birth of Jesus? It is amazing how one life can touch so many. Will I allow the birth of Jesus to affect my life? Because of Jesus' birth in my world, will others be different because of me? I thought about how we cele-brate Jesus' birth. It is how His life and my life flow to-gether which makes all the difference in the world, my world. Imagine the world without Jesus. For thousands of years, people waited for the Messiah with great anticipa-tion. Now that He has come, it is time to celebrate. Part of my reflection this week is to imagine the world without the birth of Jesus. With that reflection, I am ready to truly celebrate the gift that Jesus is to the world. Have a great week, everyone. Can't wait to celebrate HIS birth on Christmas. Fr. Mark
