Only God can grant us the grace of a Holy Week, and es- pecially an experience of the Easter Triduum that will change us, that will fill us with new light on the passion and death and resurrection of Jesus, and on everything that follows from his resurrection. Only God can grant us the grace of an Easter experience that will fill us with new, unexpected, unforeseeable joy. Only God can do that. But there are things that we can do to enhance the probability of receiving that grace. First and foremost, we can prepare for Gods grace by creating a space where his grace can landduring the celebration of the Triduum. Create an emptiness, an openness, a stillness in our minds and hearts, where there will be room for Gods grace to penetrate. We can also help ourselves by arriving early enough at each celebration to allow time for flushing out of our hearts and minds the distractions that have followed us into the church. In this way, we are receptive, much more than we would otherwise be, to what is about to happen. Perhaps most usefully, we can do a bit of read- ing. A few weeks ago, I made available several hundred copies of the Songs of the Suffering Servant. There are still a few copies left on the parish-services table in the foyer. I wont re- peat here the reasons why these texts are so important. I will simply say this: it is clear that it is in these texts that Jesus discovered his vo- cation, and his destiny, and the consequences of his life, passion, and death. It is also clear that after Jesusresurrection, the first insight of the primitive Christian community as to who Jesus really was, was that his life among them and his death and resurrection had been the fulfilment of the Songs of the Suffering Servant in the prophet Isaiah, that he was, simply, the Suffering Servant that Isaiah had announced. I can think of no more profitable initiative in view of preparing oneself for the Triduum, than that of reading and re-reading these texts. And so I offer them again to you on this Palm Sunday. This is the bulletin that will serve for both to- day, Palm Sunday, and Easter Sunday. And so I assure you of my prayer for a grace-filled, illu- minating celebration of the Holy Triduum for all of you. I pray for a celebration of Easter that will result in an increase in the clarity of your faith, in your hope, and in your joy. May God grant us all a grace-filled Easter. Fr. PREPARING FOR GOD’S GRACES

Dear parishioners,

With today’s ritual entrance into Jerusalem and our reading of the gospel of the Lord’s Passion according to Mark, we are ushered into Holy Week, and the Easter Triduum. Only God can grant us the grace of a Holy Week, and es-pecially an experience of the Easter Triduum that will change us, that will fill us with new light on the passion and death and resurrection of Jesus, and on everything that follows from his resurrection. Only God can grant us the grace of an Easter experience that will fill us with new, unexpected, unforeseeable joy. Only God can do that. But there are things that we can do to enhance the probability of receiving that grace.

First and foremost, we can prepare for God’s grace by creating a space where his grace can “land” during the celebration of the Triduum. Create an emptiness, an openness, a stillness in our minds and hearts, where there will be room for God’s grace to penetrate. We can also help ourselves by arriving early enough at each celebration to allow time for flushing out of our hearts and minds the distractions that have followed us into the church. In this way, we are receptive, much more than we would otherwise be, to what is about to happen.

Perhaps most usefully, we can do a bit of read-ing. A few weeks ago, I made available several hundred copies of the Songs of the Suffering Servant. There are still a few copies left on the parish-services table in the foyer. I won’t re-peat here the reasons why these texts are so important. I will simply say this: it is clear that it is in these texts that Jesus discovered his vo-cation, and his destiny, and the consequences of his life, passion, and death. It is also clear that after Jesus’ resurrection, the first insight of the primitive Christian community as to who

Jesus really was, was that his life among them and his death and resurrection had been the fulfilment of the Songs of the Suffering Servant in the prophet Isaiah, that he was, simply, the Suffering Servant that Isaiah had announced. I can think of no more profitable initiative in view of preparing oneself for the Triduum, than that of reading and re-reading these texts. And so I offer them again to you on this Palm Sunday.

This is the bulletin that will serve for both to-day, Palm Sunday, and Easter Sunday. And so I assure you of my prayer for a grace-filled, illu-minating celebration of the Holy Triduum for all of you. I pray for a celebration of Easter that will result in an increase in the clarity of your faith, in your hope, and in your joy. May God grant us all a grace-filled Easter.

Stewardship Reflection

March 25—Palm Sunday

He humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death – even death on a cross. Therefore God highly exalted him… Jesus hum-bled himself and became the suffering servant for us all. We too, as stewards of the mysteries of God en-trusted to us, may suffer from time to time. We may occasionally suffer rejection for sharing what we pro-fess to believe. Jesus emptied himself in serving God’s purpose and ultimately his suffering was re-warded. So, we pray this Holy Week that we too may empty ourselves of pride or fear. We call upon the Holy Spirit to give us the humility, wisdom and cour-age to share the Gospel with whoever needs to hear it. St. Paul reminds us today that as disciples and good stewards, “Every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is lord, to the glory of God the Father”. When we have the courage to share our faith, one of the rewards we will receive is the joy of witnessing someone give their life to the Lord.

GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION FOR HOLY LAND

The Pontifical Collection for the Benefit of the Holy Places is on Good Friday, March 30, at all parishes! Today, as we know, living the Christian faith in the Middle East is not at all easy. Chris-tians are often subjected to forms of oppression and discrimination. Once again, from every part of the Church, expressions of solidarity come to-gether effectively in the Good Friday Collection. Please give generously as many Christians in the Holy Land depend on the collection for their lives. “Let us work for the good of all” (Galatians 6:10). http://www.commissariat.ca/
