PRAYER for CANDIDATES

Let us pray for our catechumens and candidates. God of the

Samaritan Women, the Man Born Blind and Lazarus, You show

yourself in many ways. Most often in ways we cannot see until we

look with eyes of faith. Continue to bless these catechumens and

candidates who will receive the Church’s sacraments during the

upcoming Season of Easter. Fill their lives and hearts with your

unending love and grace. Help us to continue to be models of

living Christian lives and grant them the endurance to continue

to race to the resurrection. We ask all this in the name of Jesus,

your Son who reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, for

ever and ever. Amen.

GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION

Pope Francis has asked us to support the

Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which

helps Christians in the Holy Land. Your

support helps the church minister in parishes,

provide Catholic schools, offer religious

education, and helps to preserve the sacred

shrines.

The wars, unrest and instability have been

especially hard on Christians. In these times

of crisis, the collection provides humanitarian

aid to refugees. When you contribute to the

Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you

become an instrument of peace and join

with Catholics around the world in solidarity

with the Church in the Holy Land. For more

details, visit myfranciscan.org/good-friday.

VIGIL at the TOMB

Holy Cross Vigil at the Tomb

will be on Saturday, March 31,

from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm.

Come spend some time in

quiet prayer. Sign-up sheet will

be on a table at the Holy Cross Church

doors. All are welcome.

POPE’S MARCH INTENTION

Formation in Spiritual Discernment. That the

Church may appreciate the urgency of

formation in spiritual discernment, both on

the personal and communitarian levels.

FAMILY FAITH MOMENTS

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday. Jesus entered

Jerusalem riding a donkey with people waving palm

branches and cheering “Hosanna to the King.” Then

on Thursday evening, we enter into the Triduum

(meaning three days). These are our holiest days. We

remember the suffering, death, and resurrection of

Jesus. Our Church offers special services to

remember these events in Jesus’ life. They are full of

ritual and seek to overwhelm us with the great love

God has for us. Today is also the Feast of the

Annunciation (March 25), when God called Mary to

be the mother of His Son. Mary’s faith assured her

that nothing is impossible for God.

Celebrating the Church’s Holy Week at home. Like

Mary, let us be ready to say yes to God’s plan for our

lives. And today, parade around your house placing

the blessed palm in each room. If possible, plan to

attend all or some of the special services on Thursday

and Friday. If not, on Thursday share a simple meal

with your family and talk about Jesus’ last supper with

his friends. Discuss how we are to ‘wash each other’s

feet’. On Friday, read the story of Jesus’ suffering,

death, and burial from your Bible or a children’s Bible

to your family, then spend some quiet time for prayer

and meditation. Dye Easter eggs and decorate with

symbols of Jesus and new life

CRS RICE BOWL

We encounter Jesus this week in Jerusalem, a

community He knew well. We prayerfully enter our

own communities too, encountering those who are

hungry and thirsty, those who need our help. How

does our Lenten journey motivate us to serve those

we meet in our daily lives? Visit crsricebowl.org for

more details.

Rice Bowl boxes may be returned to the baskets in

the church foyers after Masses on April 7 and 8 or in

the school beginning April 5.

RELIGIOUS ARTICLE SALE

The St. Peter Gift Shop Religious Article Sale is on Sunday, March 25, from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm in Fehrenbach Hall.

First Communion missals, rosaries, ties, veils, and gift items will be available for purchase as well as items for

Confirmation. We have donated, gently used First Communion dresses that are available at no charge.

Gifts for Easter, Baptisms, Weddings, Birthdays, Bereavement, and Get Well will also be available. Come stop by

and get that perfect gift!

SPIRITUAL ADOPTION PROGRAM

To help stop the anti-life push around the world, the late

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen encouraged the spiritual

adoption of an unborn child. This is done by praying that

the one particular but unknown child's life be spared

abortion and be allowed to continue to live. There will be

prayer cards available today after Mass.

Spiritual Adoption: Day One. At the moment of

conception, a new and unrepeatable human being

comes into existence, complete with his own unique set

of DNA. Although he is only one cell, everything about

this little person is already present: color of eyes, blood

type, color of hair – everything! He already exists; all he

needs is nourishment, a safe warm environment, and

most of all – love. His parents don’t know he exists yet.

Pray for them to safely bring their baby to birth so he can

fulfill the mission God has for him.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much.

I beg you to spare the life of the unborn child

that I have spiritually adopted

who is in danger of abortion.

– Bishop Fulton J. Sheen

ST. PETER FISH FRY

The St. Peter Athletic Commission

held their annual fish fry on March

10 and it was a huge success. The

Fish Fry is our largest fundraiser and

the proceeds will be used towards

maintenance and enhancements

to our athletic programs. We couldn't have done it

without the support from our amazing volunteers,

fellow parishioners, families from St. Peter School,

and local community members.

We would like to recognize our platinum sponsors

whose contribution exceeded $500: Bob Evans and

Progressive Printers. A huge part of our success also

goes out to the local businesses and parishioners

whose generous donations made it possible for us

to reach the successful level we did. On behalf of

our athletes and coaches, your support was greatly

appreciated. Hope to see you all next year. MVP

tables will be available for purchase the beginning

of January 2019. Start recruiting your team today!

ST. PETER SCHOOL SPRING FLING

The Spring Fling for St. Peter

School is on Saturday, April 14,

from 7:00 to 11:00 pm. THIS IS

THE FINAL YEAR FOR THE

FUNDRAISER. The night includes

h e a v y h o r s d ’ o e uv r e s ,

complimentary soft drinks, cash

bar, drink raffle (specialty cocktail and craft beer),

silent auction baskets, photo booth, DJ and

dancing, drop in the bucket, and much more… the

emcee is Father Ethan!

This is the largest fundraiser for our school of

approximately 500 students. This year the money

raised will again be used to enhance our STEM

Program and provide additional classroom

adaptive equipment for students and teachers to

augment the learning and teaching environment in

the classroom.

Tickets are $20 a person; please contact Kathy

Moorman in the School Office 233-8710 to order

your tickets. For details on the gala, please contact

Deb Cannon, Chair, at 430-3005.

WELCOME and FELLOWSHIP

There will be no welcome and fellowship on the

fourth and fifth Sunday of each month at St. Peter

due to lack of volunteers. To volunteer, please

contact John Kern at 236-0190 or email John at

[email protected].

PALM SUNDAY REFLECTION

His coming is a revelation, a radical, total revelation of

God’s holiness. “Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power

and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory…”

Precisely this week; which humanly speaking is filled to the

brim with suffering, humiliation, despoliation, in a word,

with the kenosis of God this Week; contains the revelation

of God's holiness, the culmination of world history.

“Holy, Holy, Holy... Hosanna in the highest”…

To embrace the Cross on this day, to pass it from hand to

hand, is a very eloquent gesture. It is like saying:

Lord, we do not want to stay with you only at the time of

the “Hosannas”, but with your help we want to

accompany you on the way of the Cross as did Mary,

your mother and ours, and the Apostle John.

Yes, O Lord, because “You have the words of eternal

life” (John 6:68), and we have believed

that precisely your Cross is the word of life, of eternal life!

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

The Feast of Divine Mercy Sunday

celebration on April 8, will complete the

individual’s private Novena to the Divine

Mercy, which begins on Good Friday,

March 30, at 3:00 pm. Pamphlets

containing the Chaplet and Novena and

Rosaries are available in each of the

church vestibules. We will have the closing for Divine Mercy

on Sunday, April 8, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at St. Adalbert

Church located at 1511 Valley Street. In order to receive

the complete graces of the Divine Mercy, the following

listed below are required. For more information, please call

the Religious Education Office at 237-3516.

Privately pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the

Novena at 3:00 pm on Good Friday (the hour of great

mercy).

Pray the Divine Mercy Novena each day from Good

Friday to Divine Mercy Sunday.

Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation within eight

days before or after Divine Mercy Sunday.

In order not to distract from the solemnity of this

program, there will be no Sacrament of Reconciliation

offered on Divine Mercy Sunday.

Attend Mass and receive Holy Communion on Divine

Mercy Sunday.

CATECHISM CORNER Welcoming Christ

by Josh Miller

“‘If Christ has not been raised, then

our preaching is in vain and your

faith is in vain.’ The Resurrection

abov e a l l c ons t i t u t es t he

confirmation of all Christ's works and

teachings” (CCC 651).

Today, Palm Sunday, the Jews give

Christ a royal entry into Jerusalem.

Did they know Whom they welcomed? Most

certainly not. In a matter of days, the population

exchanged cries of “Hosanna!” for “Crucify Him!”

After three years of countless miracles and the most

eloquent moral instruction in the history of the

world, the Jewish people told Christ, “No, we don’t

want you.”

Do we know Whom we welcome this Holy Week?

Most certainly not. Like the Jewish people, we too

go from shouts of “Hosanna!” to betraying Jesus

with our proud and selfish sins. We fail to believe.

Yet, Christ rises. In the murkiness of this life, we

struggle to believe, but we have something the

Jews of Palm Sunday did not: the Resurrection.

Brothers and sisters, commit with me this Holy Week

to set aside time to really meditate on who Christ is,

what His death means, and how we can say to him,

“Yes, Lord, I want You.”

pizzas, giant sandwiches, and other Italian specialties in

a relaxing “old Italian courtyard” atmosphere for more

than 50 years. With seven locations in the Dayton area,

Marion’s Piazza is the place for a family outing. Visit

marionspiazza.com for menu and locations.

Founded in 1950, COPEY’S BUTCHER SHOP is family

owned and operated out of Medway. They supply

customers with old-fashioned smoked meats, party trays,

homemade brats, and sausages. Copey’s has a fresh

deli, in-store bakery, and custom butchering with no

fillers or parts added. Visit copeys.com for more details.

Did you know that the business sponsors who advertise

on the back of the bulletin make our weekly bulletin
