Patient Organizations and Medical Society in Russia To the UNO Political Declaration on NCDs In order to decide what action to take and to develop an overall strategy to protect their interest it is necessary to carry on regular meeting with various NGOs, working in other NCDs. Considering that one of the most common complications of diabetes is kidney failure, Moscow Diabetes Association and All-Russian Society of nephrology and the transplanted patients “Right to Life "have decided to pool their resources and activities. Within the framework of the joint project there were carried out a number of awareness - raising events on" Kidney International Day “ were carried out. March 8, 2012 – Russia celebrates International Kidney Day. In 2012 MDA has joined the activities of the SNTP. Several media events took place. March 12, 2012 – a press-conference for mass-media was organized by SNTP, named “The Right for Life”. Leading specialists, nephrologic patients and those with kidney transplantation, people with diabetes, NGO leaders and representatives of the Regional government participated in it. The aim : to increase public awareness on problems that patients and HCPs are facing April 4, 2012 – Conference “ Time to Control Diabetes Complications” was organized by MDA. More then 450 members of MDA and SNTP participated in it. The latter NGO has 52 Regional branches. BG meters were delivered to all who asked for. A Russian Folk Song Chorus closed the Conference. April 5. 2012 – under the initiative of SNTP and support of MDA a Round Table was organized in the State Duma of the Russian Federation. Topic: Legislative Barriers in Organization of Medical Care for Patients with Nephrologic Problems”. Participants: deputies, members of the Council of Federations, head and leading specialists, physicians and patients. Results: on April 25,2012 the Chairmen of the Medical Committee of the State Duma signed Recommendations “On the Legislative Barriers in the Organization of Medical Care for Nephrologic Patients”.. The next conferenct-meeting and ‘School of patients’ was organized and conducted by our organizations in Krasnodar, on 14-15 June 2012.
