Specially designed for use by the NHSDeveloped specifically for the NHS, our range of furniture has been thoughtfullydesigned, carefully constructed and rigorously tested to meet the needs of today’s hospitals.

Our range has been created after research with healthcare providers and with their patients in mind. We have worked to create safe, robust and attractivefurniture which can form part of a modern, state of the art hospital environment.

Core Products and Express DeliveryAll the products in the brochure, excluding the Baroque (BR300 on page 20) andElite (E600/601/651 on page 18) are our range of Core Products within the NHSScotland contract. They are all available for Express Delivery from stock andtherefore can be delivered within 10 working days of receipt of your order.

In terms of the seating, these Express Delivery items are available in BerkshireNewbury vinyl fabric. Another five choices for seating fabric are also available, however for the other five colours, delivery is within 15 to 20 working days ofreceipt of order – see adjacent page for full details of these fabrics.

Hygienilac for hygiene protection All wooden frames are now supplied with the Hygienilac coating. This coating incorporates an active agent which prevents bacteriasurviving in contact with the coated surface. All Express Delivery items are delivered in a Beech finish.

Independent laboratory tests prove that Hygienilac coated products have a 99% kill rate of these bacteria within a 24 hour period and Hygienilac goes on killingbacteria for the life of the coated surface.

To ensure good posture, pressure area care, as well as comfort, it is important to have a correctly fitted chair and cushion.

24 hour care• Patients who are at risk when in bed –

are at increased risk.• Patients will require a similar or greater

level of support when seated.• Patients at an elevated risk of pressure

damage, should have their seating timeregularly assessed and possibly limited toperiods of less than 2 hours with regularrepositioning.

• The seat should not restrict the patient’snormal activities and comfort is an important consideration.

• Consider alternating pressure seat cushions for those patients who are at highest risk or immobile.

ARE YOU SITTING COMFORTABLY?Correct seating position and chair dimensions will provide:A good sitting posture, important for activities of daily living and normal bodyfunctions e.g. respiration. Good pressure area care, by maximising the surfaceover which weight is carried, thereby reducing pressure and freedom for independent movement and postural changes.

Seat too highDifficult to get into and no support for the feet, leading toankle deformities and restrictionof blood flow at the back on thethigh. Heels are at risk when the patient shuffles forward for comfort.

Seat too lowAn individual’s body weight is supported on a small area,leading to high pressures underthe coccyx and buttocks. Feetpushed forward for stability increases heel pressure.

Seat too narrowRisk of pressure damage toTrochanters. Difficult to get in and out of the chair due to limited movement.

Seat too wideOffers no support or stability, the body tends to lean to oneside, putting pressure on ischial tuberosities.
