Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. In this role, I conduct research on the molecular mechanisms of development and resolution of inflammatory lung disease. My laboratory uses a combination of molecular biology, immunology, and endocrinology approaches to study hormonal regulation of gene expression networks in response to environmental insults. I also lead an interdisciplinary research project focused on the identification of microRNA biomarkers for pediatric inflammatory lung disease.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE 2013- Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Penn State College of Medicine. In this capacity, I am responsible for writing grants and research manuscripts, and to guide and mentor postdocs, clinical fellows and students in the lab. I am fully responsible for two research technicians, and four undergraduate students.

2011-2012 Research Associate. Department of Pediatrics. Penn State College of Medicine. In this role, I served as a teacher, preceptor, and mentor for postdocs, fellows, and students, and I was fully responsible for one research technician, and for the administration of two research budgets.

2008-2011 Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Pulmonary Molecular Biology). Department of Pediatrics, Penn State College of Medicine. Advisor: Joanna Floros, PhD. My postdoctoral project was focused on the role of mRNA untranslated regions in the regulation of expression of Surfactant Protein A gene variants. I was responsible for mentoring and training students and postdocs and I collaborated in the experimental design, data analysis, and manuscript writing with all members of the lab.

2008 Visiting Research Faculty (3 months). Department of Medicine. Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA. Advisor: Claudia Gragnoli, MD, PhD. In this role, I performed research on the role of human orexin genes in the molecular genetics of obesity and type 2 diabetes.

2003-2007 Graduate Student (PhD candidate). Neuroendocrinology Laboratory, Institute of Biology and Experimental Medicine, Argentina. Advisor: Carlos Libertun, MD, PhD. My project entitled “Neuroendocrine control of energy balance and its relationship with the reproductive axis: orexins and other neuropeptides”, involved a combination of endocrinology and molecular biology techniques to study the role of orexins and their receptors in the control of appetite and reproduction.

2002-2003 Student intern. Leloir Research Institute, Argentina. Advisor: Dr. Roberto Staneloni. Project: Regulation of gene expression by light exposure in plants. My role in this project was to identify regulatory regions in the promoters of 4neumonia4s genes that were transcriptionally regulated by phytocrome A.

2001-2002 Student intern. Carbohydrate Research Center. Exact and Natural Sciences College, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Advisor: Dr. R. M. de Lederkremer. Project: Influence of exo-β-D-galactofuranosidase inhibitors in cultures of P. fellutanum. I contributed to this project by applying biotechnology techniques to purify fungal enzymes to be used for functional assays of synthetic inhibitors.

2001 Summer intern. Federal Police Department Chemistry Laboratory, Argentina. Under the guidance of Dr. Ricardo Padula, PhD, I performed routine Forensic Research lab techniques including PCR, capillary electrophoresis, and STR analysis.
