ORIENTATIONSDepartment of Library organized anorientation program for first year studentsof B.Com, BMS & B.Com (Banking &Insurance) in the month of July, 2016.Teachers who oriented the students were -D. S. Mhaske for the F. Y. B. Com. classesand Byshi Panikar for the F.Y.BMS andF.Y.B. Com (B&I) classes.
The purpose for the orientation was for thestudents to have a glance of the library, getpractical information and knowledge abouthow to use the library and also to knowmore about the Library collections, rules ®ulations, facilities, activities, servicesetc.
Counselling & Guidance Cell organized anorientation program for the first year studentsof B.Com, BMS & B.Com (Banking &Insurance) in the month of July, 2016.Teachers who oriented the students were - D.S. Mhaske for the F. Y. B. Com. classes andByshi Panikar for the F.Y.BMS and F.Y.B.Com (B&I) classes.
The purpose for the orientation was to createawareness among the students about theCounselling & Guidance facilities provided inthe College. The Cell provides personalcounseling and help in any issues that studentswould want a helping hand for and alsoprovides referrals service if needed.
The Alumni Association organized anorientation program for all the students ofB.Com, BMS and B.Com (Banking &Insurance) on August 27, 2016, and it wasdelivered by alumni.
Seven alumni were involved in orientingstudents about the Association.
The purpose for the orientation was tomake the students aware of the programs,activities, guest lectures, etc. that areorganized for the current students.
ORIENTATIONS OF EXTENSIONACTIVITIES
On July 18, 2016, the NSS Unit of the Collegeorganized the first term orientation for the NSSvolunteers so as to impart information of theactivities planned for the year and make thenew entrants aware about the scheme.
The DLLE unit organized the first termorientation on August 2, 2016, to orient theparticipants about the requirements forsuccessful completion of the program.
ACTIVITIESDepartment of Library organized a “Talkon Library” for the students on July 23,2016 in the Reading room. Ms. ShivangiSharma was invited as a judge for thecompetition.
Students were given topics related toLibrary, to encourage more discussion andto initiate a thought process for furtherlibrary development.
The Alumni Association and CulturalAssociation organized an “Induction Sessionon Fine Arts” on July 23, 2016, in whichtwenty-three students participated and showedtheir talents in fine arts as drawing, sketching,tattoo making, poster making, t-shirt paintingetc. Alumni - Chandrashekar Kurmi & RanjeetShah were invited as a judge of the session.
The Department of Commerce organized aQuiz as a part of the co-curriculars on June30, 2016.
The NSS unit of the College undertook a TreePlantation Drive at Saphale on July 19, 2016.
CELEBRATIONSOur Independence day on August 15 wascelebrated with a flag hoisting andperformances of singing and patriotic stageenactments.
On June 21, 2016, we celebrated theInternational Yoga Day, by most teachersparticipating in the yoga session conducted bythe Chairman in the auditorium.
ACHIEVEMENTSThe College successfully underwent theprocess of NAAC Re-accreditation with thePeer-team members visiting campus, onAugust 4, 5 and 6, 2016.

Our College was selected to host the 49th
Youth Festival organized by the University ofMumbai in the category of Fine Arts, for ZoneIII, to be held on August 11-12, 2016.
Our teacher, D. S. Mhaske, was appointed asthe Cultural Co-coordinator for Zone III ofthe 49th Youth Festival organized by theUniversity.
YOUTH FESTIVAL - UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI In the selection round of Zone III of the Youth Festival, University of Mumbai, which
was held on August 11, 2016, Ronak Khasiya, S.Y.B. Com. (B&I), won the first prizein Clay Modelling and also won the First Prize in the Final Round held on August19, 2016.
In the selection round of Zone III of the Youth Festival, University of Mumbai, whichwas held on August 7, 2016, a group of our students, namely, Dinesh Gadhkar,Aniket Gurav, Roshan Rane, Vishal Mahadik, Jayesh Mahadik and Siddhesh Vaidya,won the first prize. And in the Final round, held on August 26, 2016, the group wonthe Second Prize.
In the selection round of Zone III of the Youth Festival, University of Mumbai,which was held on August 8, 2016, a group of our students, namely, Dinesh Gadhkar,Aniket Gurav, Roshan Rane, Vishal Mahadik, Jayesh Mahadik, Siddhesh Vaidya andDevendra Panchal, won the Third Prize in Folkdance (Dhol Dance) in the PerformingArts Category organized at Amlani College.
MEDIA COVERAGEOur College Alumni and current students took an initiative to be a part of the IndependenceDay celebrations this year. On August 13, 2016 two alumni - Ranjeet Shah andChandrashekar Kurmi and six students contributed to send the message “Save Girls SaveIndia” through Face Painting and Nail Art. The face painting and nail art were done by ouralumni. Reporters of various newspapers visited campus to capture and publish the same intheir newspapers.

PUBLIC NIGHT DEGREE COLLEGEThe Public Night Degree College organized an Inter - Collegiate Literary Fest on August 30, 2016, in which the following students participated and won awards :
- Shilu Patwa and Harshad Dhopavkar won the First Prize in Debate
- Sandeep D’souza won the First Prize in Elocution- Nidhi Prasad won the Second Prize in Case Study Analysis- A team of Siddesh Parab, Nitu Singh and Preetika Chavan won the First Prize in
PPT Presentation competition- Yadav Ravikumar was presented a Participation Certificate for the Quiz
DTSS COLLEGE Krutika Tandlekar, T. Y. B. Com., won the Second Prize, at the Lavni Competition,
held on August 27, 2016, at DTSS College.
GUEST LECTURESOn August 27, 2016, the AlumniAssociation and the Department ofManagement organized a Guest Lecture on“Practical Knowledge on Banking Sectorand its Products” for the T.Y.BMS andT.Y.B.Com (B&I) students in theConference room.
The lecture was delivered by our alumnusMithun Devadiga (BMS batch: 2009-10),Relationship Manager-Credit Cards,ICICI Bank. He provided valuableinformation about the current scenario ofthe banking industry and provided practicalknowledge about the banking products.
On July 2, 2016, the Department ofAccountancy organized a Guest lecture on‘Money Laundering’.
Ms. Bhavika Dave, Core Team Member, Legal& Compliance, IL & FS Investment ManagersLimited, and Visiting Faculty at Welingkars’Institute of Management Development &Research, in the area of FinancialManagement, was invited to conduct thelecture.
The lecture was well received and the studentsreportedly gained real value addition throughit.
STUDENTS’ COUNCILThe Students’ Council was formed for the academic year on August 25, 2016. On this daythe Core Committee members too were appointed through a voting system. They are asfollows :

SPORTSNine boys and six girls participated in the Inter-collegiate Cross Country Competitionorganized by University of Ratnagiri, on August 26, 2016.
INFRASTRUCTURAL IMPROVEMENTSDuring the first three months of this academic year we undertook conscious efforts to revampthe landscape around the College to make it look more aesthetic. Theme based Wallpaintings were sketched and coloured at the College entrance wall, the canteen and the sportsroom.
The College auditorium was renovated by making it fully air conditioned, painting it andremaking the stage. The renovated auditorium was inaugurated by our Chairman, Shri AdilPatuck, on June 20, 2016.
ACADEMIC CONTRIBUTIONSMrs. Byshi Panikar attended a ‘One-day Workshop on Revised Syllabus of F.Y.B MS., Sem I& II’, jointly organized by the University of Mumbai and Thakur College of Science &Commerce on July 22, 2016.
These workshops provide a platform and an impetus to contribute to the curriculumenrichment of self-financed programs.
