ALL ME is a design project that has been set up to exhibit work by myself, Paul Meikle, an Edinburgh based product designer.

I have recently graduated from Edinburgh Napier University as well as completing a semester abroad in Zwolle, Holland at Windesheim School of Applied Sciences. Throughout my time studying my skills as a product designer have pushed to their limits and through this have advanced greatly.

During my final year I concentrated on product sound design for my dissertation and major project. This is an area that I have found intrigues me most and I hope to explore further within the future.

Outside of design I am passionate about music; I am a vinyl enthusiast and I enjoy collecting records from different places. I also produce my own music and DJ in my spare time.

Shaping Senses is a toy that has been designed for visually impaired children ages 4 to 10.

The objective is for the children to connect the blocks in the correct order by feeling shapes and reading braille. Once the blocks are correctly stacked the child can push the top button to hear the sound of the object.

Initial models and development Development model

Visually impaired children often suffer from learning difficulties as their cognitive skills cannot fully develop. Where others see before they touch, visually impaired children must touch to discover.

Shaping Senses provides a fun way of connecting shapes to sounds whilst teaching them braille simultaneously. In order to help with the learning process the blocks stimulate children’s senses through shapes, materials, textures and sounds.

Wowee Speaker Project

For this project I developed and created a manufacturable casing to hold the wowee surface contact speaker. Inspiration for this project was taken from from the iconic design of the Bush 1960’s radio, I wanted to create a something similar but much simpler and more compact with the ability to dock an iPhone and use that as its main interface.

The internals of the speaker have fittings in order to hold a battery pack, the pcb and the wowee speaker. The front and back section join via clipfits.

The Compulsive perfume range was created as part of a project where the fragrance influenced the design of the bottles. From starting out with the frangrance a mood board was created based upon the smell and from there the design process ensued.

The final product is two bottles, one for women the other for men. The two final designs complement one another and take influence from the human form. Both the bottles have a concrete outer casing with a blue rubber ring around the top.

I worked as part of a team on the Pathé Cinemas QR code scanner for quicker entry into cinema screens for users with digital tickets. Throughout this project I was part of the initial ideas and development stage, designing the sounds that scanner would produce as well as working on the user interface.

The scanner is now featured in selected Pathé Cinemas in Holland and hopefully in the future it will make its way into many more.
