1 Introduction Pilatus offers the “Wireless Data Loading System (Connected Flight Deck)” as a factory and retrofit Option for the PC-12/47E aircraft equipped with the Honeywell APEX Integrated Avionics Suite. This Pilot’s Guide provides information on how to use this system to transfer data to or from the aircraft avionics using an Apple iPad® and specially developed applications. 2 Description

2.1 Installed hardware and mobile devices The main hardware components of the Wireless Data Loading System (Connected Flight Deck) installed in the PC-12/47E (NG & NGX) aircraft are the following:

a) A Wi-Fi Router with the name “Aspen Connected Gateway CG100P or CG200P” which has been

developed and is being manufactured by Aspen Avionics Inc. The CG100P or CG200P is installed on mounting plates at the right hand side of the rear fuselage structure. It is powered by the STBY Bus and wired across the cabin to the MAU to allow data transfer.

b) A rocker switch, labeled “MAU DATA LOAD”, is installed in the side panel next to the copilot seat. If this rocker switch is pressed, both MAU Channels are powered from the Standby Bus. This way databases can be loaded to APEX without an external ground power unit connected to the aircraft. Be aware that the aircraft battery only lasts for a maximum of 25 minutes in this special power mode. Adjacent to the switch is a green LED light which indicates that the switch was pressed.

c) Two Circuit Breakers are installed in the Cockpit LH Circuit Breaker Panel on the Standby Bus, called “WLAN DATA LOAD” and “MAU DATA LOAD”. The Aspen Connected Gateway CG100P or CG200P is powered by the “WLAN DATA LOAD” circuit breaker, and can be de-energized on-ground or in-flight by opening this circuit breaker.

d) An Apple iPad® is used as a Wi-Fi equipped mobile device running the specially developed applications from the Apple App Store®. Be aware that Apple iOS 8 or higher needs to be installed on the iPad.

3 Setup the aircraft to use the Wireless Data Loading System (Connected Flight Deck)

a) Verify all cockpit switches are in the appropriate position according to the POH “Cockpit Preparation” checklist before switching on any power (Reversionary Control Panel in NORM position).

b) On the Overhead Panel, switch the STBY Bus switch to On.

c) 1) If external power is available:

Power up the aircraft with external power according to the POH. The MAU DATA LOAD rocker switch does NOT need to be pressed. Use of external power is recommended whenever possible.

2) If external power is NOT available, and the aircraft is only powered by the STY Bus:

Press the MAU DATA LOAD rocker switch until the green LED light is on. It is possible to use the MFD swap button on the MFC to change the lower MFD format to the Systems format where the Battery 1 Volts and Amps are indicated. When both MAU channels are connected to the Battery 1, a power consumption of approximately 15 Amps can be seen. Do not allow the Battery 1 voltage to drop below 23.5 Volts while data loading. Maximum runtime in this mode shall be 25 minutes. When both batteries are switched on later for engine start, minimum voltage must be 24 Volts on each battery. If 24 Volts are not achieved, perform the engine start with external power. If data up- or download is required after a flight, perform an aircraft power cycle first and use external power whenever possible.

d) Stay inside or near to the aircraft to connect your iPad to the CG100P or CG200P. Go to iPad’s Wi-Fi

settings menu, enter the login credentials. The CG100P or CG200P boots within 1 ½ minutes from the moment the aircraft is energized. Leave the iPad within the aircraft’s Wi-Fi range to ensure a stable connection.
