OF PARTICIPANT(S) ONE (1) TIME ALLOTMENT THREE (3) HOURS DESCRIPTION/USE Computer System and Network Configuration ensures the functionality and connectivity of the PC system to perform task such as file and printer sharing and internet connectivity. Skills Exhibition Proper a. The Event Administrators and their secretaries, technical committe and judges, should be in the venue sixty (60) minutes ahead of the event schedule. b. Event materials, supplies, tools, equipment and other things needed for the venue will be made ready by the Event Administrator sixty (60) minutes before the event schedule. Setup of Computers 7:00AM contest starts at 9:00 AM. c. All participants should be at the designated venue thirty (30) minutes before the event starts. Late participants without valid reasons shall be disqualified. d. Briefing of participants will be done fifteen (15) minutes before the scheduled event. e. The Event Secretary will give the signal for the event to begin. Once the event has been started, the coaches, teachers, delegates are no longer allowed to talk to the participants to give them full concentration in their work. f. Only the Event Administrator, Secretary, technical, judges, official photographer and participants are allowed in the venue. g. No questions shall be entertained during the contest proper except clarifications and points of order. All clarifications and points of order will be directed to the Event Administrator. h. Should there be any irregularities found during the event, the Event Administrator, in consultation with the Board of Judges, may suspend the conduct of the specific skill exhibition if justified and refer the matter to the attention of the Technical and evaluation Committee for appropriate action. i. Borrowing of materials, tools, supplies during the event is not allowed. II. Assessment Guide A. Safety work habits & housekeeping Occupational Health and Safety Practices (10pts): 5 minutes a. Prior to the start of the competition, competitors must write at least FIVE (5) Occupational Health and Safety Practices a Computer Technician must exercise in the performance of his/her job, and submit to the jury panel. One point will be given for each correct answer. 5 minutes shall be allotted for this written test. b. Each Contestant shall be observed if appropriate OHSP are being practiced from the task being performed. 2 points shall be deducted from the total points earned by a contestant from the written test. I. Skills Exhibition Proper a. The Event Administrators and their secretaries, technical committe and judges, should be in the venue sixty (60) minutes

ahead of the event schedule. b. Event materials, supplies, tools, equipment and other things needed for the venue will be made ready by the Event

a. B. Use of tools, materials & equipment Methods/Workmanship – Computer Assembly (20pts): 15 minutes

a. The total time allotment for this task is 15 minutes which include the 5 minutes to check if all computer materials, tools and software’s (OS, Hardware installers, Office Applications) are complete based on the list provided to them. In case of an item or items is missing, contestant must immediately call the attention of the Chief Jury.

b. Upon completion of the computer assembly, each contestant shall submit the assembled computer to the jury panel for checking and functionality test.

c. Jury panel must check if all computer part and components were installed and firmly mounted then run the POST and check the BIOS. And check the following configurations:

d. Date: (must display the current date and time)

e. IDE Ports: Primary Master - Hard disk Secondary Master - DVD Writer (or CD Writer)

f. Booting Sequence: First boot – DVD Writer Drive 2nd Boot – HD drive

g. The following point system shall be observed in rating this category: From the maximum 20 points, 3 points shall be deducted for every configuration not observed or done. 0 or No point shall be awarded to the candidate if the computer did not function.

C. Workmanship: Functionality, Installation of OS, Installation of Office, Internet, Network, Printer – Configuring Computer Systems, Networks and O.S. Administration (30pts): 1 hour and 40 minutes The Jury must check the 2 computers provided to each contestants. The First computer (with marking PC 1) must have a preinstalled Windows XP Service Pack 2 as operating system with NT File System (NTFS) configuration while the Second computer (with marking PC 2) which is the newly assembled computer must be working properly and has no preinstalled operating system. For the First Computer (PC1); = 8 points

a. Format the Windows XP Service Pack 2 (NTFS) with Windows 7 ULTIMATE (NTFS file system) b. Make the following partitions:

1. First partition – 10 Gb. for drive C:\ 2. 2nd partition – 40 Gb. – for drive D:\ which will be renamed as Applications 3. 3rd partition – 30 Gb. – for drive E:\ which will be renamed as Data_files

c. Install the hardware installer for the following: 1. Network Interface Connector (NIC) 2. Display adapter 3. Media Control Device

d. From drive D:\ make a new folder and renamed it as MSOffice2010. Install the following Office Application: MSWord, MSEXCEL, MSACCESS in the said folder.

e. Rename the computer as ____________ (name of the contestant’s School) f. Rename the network workgroup as PROTECH2014 g. Install the network printer from PC2

For the 2nd Computer (PC2); = 12 points

a. Format the computer with Windows XP Service Pack 2 operating system b. Make the following partitions:

1. First partition – 25 Gb. for drive C:\ with NT File System (NTFS) 2. 2nd partition – 25 Gb. – for drive D:\ which will be renamed as Applications with NT File System (NTFS) 3. 3rd partition – 30 Gb. – for drive E:\ which will be renamed as Data_files with FAT32 file system

c. Install the hardware installer for the following: 1.Network Interface Connector (NIC) 2.Display adapter 3. Media Control Device

Very Important: If a contestant failed to perform the above task, he/she need not need to proceed to the succeeding tasks. The contestant is considered failed.

d. From drive D:\ make a new folder and renamed it as MSOffice2010. Install the following Office Application: MSWord,

MSEXCEL, MSPowerPoint, and MSACCESS in the said folder. e. Rename the computer as ____________ (Surname of the contestant) f. Rename the network workgroup as PROTECH2014 g. Install the network printer

h. Configure the following Local Computer Policies 1. Don’t display the “Getting started Welcome Screen” at logon 2. Always use the Classic Logon 3. Prevent Changing the “Wallpaper: 4. Do not display last user name 5. Write the following “Message Text” for the users attempting to log on: “Please enter your login name and password to use this computer. Have a good and Godly day!” 6. Write “IMPORTANT” for the message title for the users attempting to log on. 7. Prompt the user to change the password before expiration = 30 days

i. Do not use the “Simple File Sharing” j. Create users with the following Rights and Privileges:

1. Ed C as “User” 2. Edgar C – “Power User”

3. Ramon G – “Administrator”

Configure Class C Network for the 2 computers. = 10 points a. Prepare 2 crossover cables. Contestants must be able to implement the correct color coding as shown below:

b. Configure a Class C IP address in the two computers with the given IP Address of 192.168.0.1/27 c. Install the printer and share. d. Connect the 2 computer using the Cross cable and ping the other computer e. Using the hub/switch, Connect the 2 computer and test connectivity f. Write the IP configuration of the local host and identify the following Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

To get the above data, the Jury Panel must Enter the following from the command prompt: “ipconfig /all” a. Write the net statistics for the workstation

To get the above data, the Jury Panel must Enter from the command prompt: “net statistics workstation”

Points Systems: From the maximum points of 10, two (2) points will be deducted for every task not performed correctly.

D. Affordability – Diagnose and troubleshoot of Computer Systems and Networks (10pts): 30 minutes (20 minutes practical 10 minutes theoretical/oral) This category composes of Theoretical and Practical assessment. 3 points shall be allotted for the Theory while 7 points shall be allotted for the Practical Assessment.

The Jury panel shall put hardware and network problem on each computers. The following shall be the point distributions: a. PC Hardware: 3 Points

1. Fault no. 1 = 1.5 points 2. Fault no. 2 = 1.5 points

Maximum points of five (2.5) for each fault solved or fixed, while Zero (0) or No point if not.

a. Network Troubleshooting = 4 points The Theoretical assessment will be administered after the Practical assessment by the Jury Chairman in a separate room. Time allotment for this assessment is 20 minutes.

E. Fluency of oral communication and Flow of thoughts - Maintaining Computer Systems and Networks = (10 points) – maximum of 30 minutes This portion shall be assessed thru the performance of the following:

1. Check Drive C:\ and scan for and attempt to recover bad sector 2. Back-up the system. 3. Restore files and setting

Very Important: If a contestant failed to perform the above task, he/she need not need to proceed to the succeeding tasks. The contestant is considered failed. To test the Contestants knowledge in computer and network maintenance, he/she must be able to site other than the above activities, at least five (5) practices in maintaining computer and network. Determine problems according to beep code. Acceptable Answers aside from the juries’ judgement may include:

a. Install all updates required by the Operating System, office and other applications b. Install only licensed programs c. Don't download programs from Internet sites you don't trust d. Be aware of suspicious emails e. Conduct periodic virus scanning of the computer system f. Run antivirus software and a spyware detection and removal tool g. Clean up hard disk h. Use system restore i. Run disk defragmenter j. Clean your files periodically - Routine maintenance tasks, such as deleting old or duplicate files and folders and

making sure that important files are in the right folders k. Organize your folder

Points Systems: From the maximum points of 10, two (2) points will be deducted for every incorrect answer.

F. Wise use of time/Speed(20pts) The total time allotted for this competition is 3 hours. The time which each contestant started and finished each tasks should be recorded to observe the actual time the contestant finished the competition.
