Please practice Romans 8:28a. Other Notes:

2nd Grade ~ Miss Luft

The Book It program has officially started. Students need to keep track of the

amount of minutes they read at home in order to earn a Pizza Hut certificate for a free personal

pizza . Forms to keep track of this will be in your child’s travel folder.

Our Bible verse this week is Joshua 1:8: “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your

mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.

Then you will be prosperous and successful. “ We will recite this verse on Friday. We will be fo-

cusing on Joshua during our Bible classes this week.

We have started phonics chart 9 and are learning about root words and suffixes. We will

continue to divide words into syllables and review charts 6,7, & 8. In English class we are continu-

ing to learn about verbs. On Friday we will have spelling test 7, phonics test 7, and math test 6.

In math class we will continue to measure to the nearest inch. We will learn how to carry

to the tens place when adding 2 digit numbers. Students are continuing to work hard on memoriz-

ing their addition and subtraction facts.

Parents, thank you for remembering to sign your child’s behavior chart and homework

sheet. As of Monday we have earned 15 popcorn pieces towards our popcorn party. Only 9 more

pieces to go!

4th Grade ~ Mrs. Odell

Our Bible passage this week is Psalm 139:1-4.

We are learning about the settling of the New World by the English in history. We are still learning about plants in science. We will soon begin studying birds. We’re writing friendly letters in English. Math practice of facts is always appropriate because we are averaging, converting measure-ments, multiplying 3-digit factors, and beginning fractions. We’ll test on List 7 in spelling next week on Wednesday. Then we’ll move on to list 8.

Enjoy another beautiful week!

3rd Grade ~ Mrs. Finley

There are many exciting things going on in third grade. In science, we have planted some po-tato pieces and a lima bean and are waiting for the plants to grow. A plant “cutting” is growing roots! We have seen a print pattern of spores from a mushroom and observed some mold on bread. This week we are beginning the chapter about vertebrates, which means that in about three weeks we will be starting our animal notebooks! We will see that God’s creation is beautiful and so detailed!

Last week we finished writing our game instructions in English. This week we are learning all about nouns.

In Bible, we will learn about how “Jesus Teaches Us.” Our memory verse is Matthew 5:16, which says, “ In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” We will have a test over this verse on Friday.

Our Spelling List 6 test will be this Friday. We are learning in math to divide 2-digit dividends, check addition and subtraction problems,

multiply by 5, and have 2-digit quotients. Please continue to send in Box Tops for Education. We are having a contest. The winning class gets a prize! Have a great week!

5th Grade Language Arts ~ Mrs. Van Den Bussche

The students, as a whole, did well on the Unit 1 Literature test. Most worked to their potential using the

gifts the Lord has given them. We are now in the midst of Sounder, our first novel. Students should have

nightly reading. The first vocabulary quiz was today. Friday they will be quizzed over words from chap-

ters 4-6. We discussed again yesterday developing good study habits to become excellent students. As of

Monday, the day before the quiz, only 1 student had made flash cards, and during our review game no

student could answer a question. This all the day before a vocabulary quiz. The point of studying isn't

just to pass or earn an A, it is to actually learn. Many students develop the habit of cramming the night

before a quiz or test. That information is then gone...lost. My desire is for them to actually learn the ma-

terial for life and to be able to use it again- to retain it. Would you partner with me and encourage good

study habits?

They will be typing, revising and finishing their compare and contrast essays this week. They have done

an excellent job working on these.

Parents, check out the Quizlet Flashcards and Study Tools App for reviewing all kinds of things. Type

in everything from “Sounder-vocabulary quiz” to “Abeka math, Grade 5, C2” to “Abeka Science, Grade

5, chapter 3. There are all kinds of online flash cards, quizzes, and study helps. Sometimes one needs to

be creative when entering the search.

Thank you to the Henrikson family for the wonderful,

generous donation of Veggie Tale books. Sarah(4),

Benjamin (5), Katherine (7), and Jonathon (8), we

really appreciate it!

Please let me know if you would like to donate

in honor of your children's birthdays.

From the Library

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer

and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made

know to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all un-

derstanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ

Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7
