www.pcansw.org.au 2
Pony Club is the largest association of riders in the world which exists to promote the physical, mental and spiritual development of young people, encouraging in them an awareness of sportsmanship and citizenship, assisting them to gain knowledge and become proficient in their chosen sport. The NSW Association consists of 271 individual clubs divided into 28 zones, please refer to Appendix I and II for a complete Club listing per Zone as well as a NSW Zone Map. Australia has by far the greatest representation with approximately 40% of the Clubs and junior membership in the world. In NSW, the first Pony Club was formed in 1946. All Clubs are affiliated with the Pony Club Association of NSW and through that with Pony Club Australia and The Pony Club of England. The main objectives of Pony Club NSW are as follows: ‐ • To encourage young people to ride and learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected
with horses and riding. • To provide instruction on riding and horsemanship and to instil in the members the
proper care of their animals. • To promote the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty, thereby
cultivating strength of character and self discipline. Pony Club is recognised as the kindergarten for future Olympians. This was evident in 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2008 when the successful Australian Eventing teams comprised of former Pony Club members.
