➔ Our 30 minute fire doors are 44mm thick thermoplastic door sets, supplied or fitted with a 70mm profile 22 outer frame.

➔ Our door sets have been approved by a U.K.A.S accredited test house for conformance with PAS23 and PAS24 as well as tested in accordance with BS 476: Part 22 1987 by BM Trada.

➔ Secured by design accredited.

➔ If you are considering additional safety for your home or complying with building regulations our office or workplace fire doors can be matched to your other interior doors. Fire doors are used to stop the spread of fire in a building by cutting off one section of the building from another. When the fire doors are closed, they form a barrier to prevent air, smoke and fire from circulating to other parts of the building. Our doors can withstand a fire for a specific period of time depending on the rating from 30 minute or 120 minute.

This applies to all Directors, Managers and Co. Secretaries.

Apart from the damage or destruction of property, fires can result in the loss of life. For this reason you must comply with the requirements of the regulatory reform (fire safety) order 2005, failure to do so can lead to fines, imprisonment and disqualification.

A fully certified fire door must have all the associated works certified such as the door blank, the frame, the fittings and fixings, glazing and must be installed by a fully qualified installer before it can be deemed safe to pass building control assessment and you can have the peace of mind that you have met your legal obligations.

Apart from our internal doors, our doors have been tested for Secured by Design accreditation. Secured by Design is a police initiative that supports the principles of ‘designing out crime’. It aims to reduce crime by looking at the products and materials used in homes and commercial premises. Most of our doors have a three point deadlock system and anti pick lock cylinders which prevent forced entry.

The Joinery shop can advise you on the fire door that meets your specific Shop requirements. We can manufacture, supply

and install 30 minute, 60 minute, 90 minute and 120 minute fire doors which are available in standard sizes or can be made to measure in a variety of styles. All fire doors will be installed with intumescent materials which is set around the door edges or fitted into the fire rated frame if supplied. This material expands at 100 degrees to several times its original size and fills the gaps between the door and frame to prevent the effects of a fire. All essential ironmongery provides the fire resistant performance of a fire door assembly.

The Joinery shop is part of Plymouth Community Homes a housing association with 15,000 properties. In 2009 we started a 5 year Decency Homes program which included a fire door program.

We started by looking at what we required as a social housing organisation to meet our legal obligations at the same time looking at how we can plan ahead to reduce the maintenance costs and future proof as much as possible our fire doors. We then spoke with our tenants to hear what they wanted. We heard the following:

• Security was top of the list from fire and theft.

• Heat and noise insulation came next on the list.

• The elderly wanted a light weight door.

Everyone wanted a good looking door with a choice of colour to brighten up communal areas. Over the coming months The Joinery Shop and Plymouth Community Homes produced and developed a door that met everyone’s requirement and needs. We then sent the doors to BM Trada to have all the relevant fire tests and gain the accreditation we required.

We took the decision that a 1 hour Fire door would give extra safety to our tenants and should laws change from 30 minute fire rating currently required we would have future proofed the business. We have justified this small additional cost by the savings on maintenance costs and the benefits to tenants.

We have now installed 3,500 doors into our homes of multiple occupancy.
