    I. Purpose of the Lowes Marketing Data & Image Standards The Lowes Marketing Data & Image Standards (MD&IS) is intended to assist vendors in providing consistent, concise and customer-friendly product copy for use across multiple Lowe's channels, including Lowes.com, Selling Center and print advertising. Any personnel entering marketing data for Lowe's vendors must refer to the latest version of the Lowes Marketing Data & Image Standards before beginning the marketing data submission process. The MD&IS includes some references to legal requirements, but it is not intended to provide you with legal advice, nor is it comprehensive with respect to all legal requirements that may be applicable to your products. You should consult with your attorney concerning legal advice as it relates to your product. As the supplier and expert of your product, Lowes relies upon you to provide compliant products and product data that meet or exceed all related local, state and federal regulations. Additionally, you are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the data (including color, dimensions and other product attributes) that you submit to Lowes, either directly or through a third-party intermediary. In the event that inaccurate or incomplete data results in customer dissatisfaction, including claims by customers or third parties, Lowes may hold you financially responsible. Submitting inaccurate data will also result in delays of data approval and use of your items in the Lowes downstream selling tools.

    II. Product Information

    A. Basic Standards

    1. Ensure that marketing data is being published for the "Each" or "Consumer Unit" level GTIN.

    2. All information must match GDSN synchronized data EXACTLY.

    3. Model Description The model description is used to help create the Lowes Product Description (LPD) that consumers see online. Your model description should match closely to your GDSN Vendor Description and should succinctly describe your product. Do not use trademark or any other symbols in your model description. These symbols do not translate correctly online. The model description is limited to 254 characters with spaces.

    4. Model Number Special (non-alphanumeric) characters are not allowed in the

Manufacturer's Model Number attribute in marketing data or GDSN data. Special characters can cause breaks in the URLs for product detail pages, and those breaks can affect how people search for items online. These characters also conflict with our internal systems and create issues with our in-store selling tools and EDI orders. The best practice for model numbers is to use alphanumeric characters only.

    4

Unacceptable Special Characters for Model Numbers Ampersand & Hash (quote) marks or Pound sign # Forward slash / Backward slash \ Exclamation point ! At sign @ Asterisk *

NOTE: The model number in your GDSN data is what appears online. However, the marketing data model number should correspond to this number for consistency in verifying your marketing data.

III. Supplier Bullets and Image Disclaimer The following Lowes standards apply to free-text fields designated for supplier bullets and image disclaimers. Please review these standards closely. Following these standards is the best way to reduce data rejections and have your information expediently approved by Lowe's for marketing use. NOTE: An item can feature up to nine supplier bullets, and each supplier bullet is limited to 254 characters with spaces.

    A. Supplier Bullets and Image Disclaimer - Basic Standards

    1. Consistency Anything mentioned in the bullets must match the product-specific responses and what is in the image. For example, if a bullet says an item is black, the image should show the product in black and the response for the attribute "Color" should be "Black." To further provide consistency, we suggest using the same benefits/features that are listed on the product packaging in your supplier bullets.

    2. One Selling Point/Sentence per Bullet Each bullet should contain only ONE feature benefit/selling point and should be easy to read and understand (e.g. May be used for both walk-in or reach-in closets).

    3. NA or N/A Is Not Allowed Not Applicable is not valid in supplier bullets. Either write a legitimate selling point or do not use the field at all. No exceptions.

    4. Duplicate Bullets or Empty Bullets Do not repeat bullets or leave empty bullets between those that have been populated.

    5. Repeating Specific Attributes The purpose of the supplier bullets is to provide other product features or consumer benefits, so do not use a supplier bullet to repeat information already provided in an attribute response. For example, if the Color attribute is Black, do not write a supplier bullet as Black. Instead, expand on the bullet Black steel frame provides durability and style

    6. Other Phone Numbers and/or Websites Do not reference phone numbers or website addresses including your own in supplier bullets or attribute responses.

    7. Promotions, Pricing and Shipping Do not reference promotions, pricing or

shipping details within supplier bullets or marketing copy attributes. Pricing is configured by Lowes.com. In addition, Lowes does not accept supplier bullets that describe your product as the best or the least expensive or that make any guarantees or declarations that the vendor, or Lowes, cannot stand behind. Likewise, Lowes has no control over a vendors shipping timelines and guarantees, so therefore, shipping-specific information is not acceptable either. Promotional claims, such as the following, are considered unacceptable

    :

Best in class power-to-weight ratio Most durable product on the market Nothing works faster or better

A claim can only be made if information is included in the supplier bullet to substantiate the claim, including when the designation was made and who made it. An example of an acceptable

    claim would be:

Bosch is ranked the worlds #1 dishwasher brand based on Euromonitor International Ltd 2011 retail volume sales in units

    8. Matching Components Only mention matching components in a supplier bullet if the matching component is synchronized at Lowes with marketing data.

    6

    9. Energy- and Water-Efficiency Certification References Government-based partnership programs such as ENERGY STAR and WaterSense certify products that meet their specific efficiency requirements. Only products that are certified may be recognized as such; products that are identified as certified, but in fact are not, could result in government penalties. Lowes regularly checks for items that misrepresent their efficiency certification to its customers. Only if your product is properly certified can you make any claims about its efficiency in supplier bullets.

    10. Energy-Savings Claims If your supplier bullet makes a claim of energy savings, depending on the type of product, you must provide either an EnergyGuide or FTC Lighting Facts to substantiate your claim, and you must disclose how the savings were calculated in that bullet (e.g. Can save up to 78% more energy compared to incandescent, based on 3 hrs/day, 11/kwh). Without proper documentation, a claim of energy savings cannot be made.

    11. Image Disclaimer This attribute must be populated if there are items in any of the product images that are not included with the product. The disclaimer appears on Lowes.com under the Lowes Product Description. For example, if tools are shown in a tool chest and the tools are not included with the chest, the image disclaimer must state Tools not included to avoid customer confusion. Remember, there are ramifications involved when you show items within images that are not included, so be sure to add a disclaimer when necessary. Usage Tip: When reviewing your product images, think like a consumer: If there could be anything in any image that a consumer may think is included with your product, then its best to add a disclaimer. However, dont go overboard with your disclaimers! If there is something featured in an image that could be sold at Lowes, but is not included with the item you are selling, include a disclaimer. If an image features something that Lowes does not sell, like perishable food or animals, then you do not need a disclaimer.

    EXAMPLES WHERE DISCLAIMERS ARE NEEDED:

EXAMPLES WHERE DISCLAIMERS ARE NOT NEEDED:

  • 2014 Lowe's. All rights reserved. Confidential and Proprietary. | Maintained by MDCM Standards Team | Updated 9/2014 Any use of this document or information contained therein is for the sole benefit of Lowes. Copying, sharing or distributing

the document or its content without the express written permission of Lowes Legal Department is prohibited.

    7

NOTE: Please use sentence case when writing the disclaimer, and do not use a period at the end. If you have two thoughts you need to include in the disclaimer, use a semi-colon to separate them (e.g. Color may vary by item; accessories not included). Image disclaimers cannot exceed 120 characters with spaces. If you need additional space, please use the next available supplier bullet. Also, if you do not have an image disclaimer, do not put N/A in the field.

    B. Supplier Bullets and Image Disclaimer - Copy Standards

    Basic Rules

    1. Text Format Use sentence case. In other words, capitalize only the first word of a sentence and if they are used proper names (e.g. Edge Precizion tile, GE Profile, Black & Decker FireStorm). Do not write bullets in all capital letters or all lowercase letters. If your bullet begins with a number, do not capitalize the letter of the first word that follows the number (e.g. 2 speeds provide increased user flexibility). In addition, you should capitalize the word collection or suite when used after your collection or suite name (e.g. Arcadia Collection, Linville Suite).

    2. Punctuation Leave off punctuation at the end of the supplier bullets. Do not use periods, question marks or exclamation points.

    3. Spelling Spelling errors are not acceptable. Use spell-check on all fields.

    4. Abbreviations If you use abbreviations, they should be common abbreviations that consumers can easily understand (e.g. HP for horsepower or LED for light-emitting diode). Do not use abbreviations an average customer would not understand (e.g. LR for left-to-right). Additionally, do not use letters to abbreviate a word, such as 7X the strength of standard nylon. Spell out the word to read 7 times the strength.

    5. Acronyms All acronyms must be customer and industry friendly, and, in general, should be spelled out the first time the acronym is used [e.g. High Efficiency (HE)]. To make an acronym plural, add a lowercase s at the end (e.g. BTUs). Do not add an apostrophe.

    6. Trademarks Trademark symbols are acceptable in supplier bullets only (not in model description or product-specific attributes [see pages 3 and 14]). If using a trademark () or registered trademark () symbol in a supplier bullet, use the actual symbol and not (TM) or (R). Alt + 0174 creates the registered trademark symbol (), while Alt + 0153 creates the trademark symbol (). If you cannot create the actual symbols, do not use either.

    7. Ampersands Do not use an ampersand (&) unless it is a part of the brand name and/or collection name. Otherwise, always spell out the word and.

    8. Forward Slashes There should be no space between a forward slash and the words or numbers preceding or following it (e.g. 5 reversible cherry/teak blades).

    8

Number and Measurement Rules In general, use the US system of measurements; do not use the metric system, unless otherwise requested by Lowes. Also, keep your measurements consistent as either decimals or fractions within your supplier bullets. Do not alternate using decimals and fractions. Please refer to the Fraction-Decimal-Metric Conversion Chart contained in this document for help converting measurements.

    9. Spelling Out Numbers In general, do not spell out numbers in bullets, unless the

number precedes another number (see #10). Exceptions to this rule are phrases that include a number which is not being used in a numeric sense (e.g. zero tolerance).

    10. Numbers Preceding Numbers When indicating a number of items that are also preceded by measurements in numbers (e.g. 100-watt bulb), spell out the number that precedes the numeral (e.g. four 100-watt bulbs). However, if the number preceding the number is greater than the number 10, then you do not have to write it out (e.g. 60 12-oz cans).

    11. Whole Numbers with Fractions A whole number with a fraction (a mixed number) should be written with the whole number first, then a hyphen, followed by the top number of the fraction, a forward slash, then the bottom number. Do not include spaces between characters (e.g. 10-1/2-in dia pot). When showing ranges, use the word to between the measurements (e.g. 3-1/2-in to 5-1/2-in).

    12. Four-Digit Numbers and Larger Four-digit numbers and larger should include a comma indicating the thousands place (e.g. 1,500 and 20,000). Do not use K to represent thousand (e.g. use 15,000 not 15K). EXCEPTION: Four-digit numbers describing PSI (pounds per square inch) or K (Kelvin color temperature) should not include a comma (e.g. 5000 PSI and 2700K).

    13. Units of Measure (UOM) Per the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), units of measure should typically be lowercase, abbreviated and without periods (e.g. 2-ft). Generally, units of measure should also be hyphenated when following a number. Refer to the General Term Glossary in this document for specific abbreviations for commonly used units of measure.

    a. Inches and Feet Always use in for inch/inches and ft for foot/feet. Do not use hash marks ( or ) to represent inches and feet. Never use a period after the abbreviation and, in general, include a hyphen between the number and unit of measure.

    The following examples are unacceptable:

    Includes 7-1/2 handle extension 72 in. L x 46 in. W x 29 in. H tub offers extra-deep bathing space

The following examples are acceptable supplier bullets:

    Includes 7-1/2-in handle extension 72-in L x 46-in W x 29-in H tub offers extra-deep bathing space

    b. Pounds The pound sign (#) may not be used to represent pounds when

referring to weight. Instead, use lb or lbs without periods.

the document or its content without the express written permission of Lowes Legal Department is prohibited.

    9

    c. Dimension Abbreviations When indicating length, width, height, depth or diameter, use a space and then the abbreviations L, W, H, D or dia (e.g. 3-1/2-in L x 2-1/4-in W). L, W, H and D are always capitalized, while dia is lowercase and without a period. Additionally, the x between dimensions is always displayed in lowercase with a single space on either side of it.

    d. Volts, Watts and Amps Always spell these words out. Do not use the 9V

or 20W options, as consumers may not understand them. Also, when used as an adjective, there should always be a hyphen between the numeral and the word volt, watt or amp (e.g. 40-watt light bulb). When used as a noun, there should not be a hyphen between the numeral and the word volt, watt or amp (e.g. Uses 300 watts of power).

    e. Degrees and Temperature When indicating degrees, either in

temperature or for angles, use the degree symbol (e.g. 98) and not the word degree(s). This is a commonly understood symbol. Also, when indicating temperature, do not use spaces between the number, the degree symbol, and either F or C, indicating Fahrenheit or Celsius (e.g. 98.6F). You can create the degree symbol using Alt + 0176.

When indicating the Kelvin color temperature for light bulbs, use the letter K after the number. As with other temperature descriptions, do not use a space between the number and the K (e.g. 2700K).

    f. Percentages When providing a measurement in percent, always use the

percent symbol (%) instead of the word percent. Do not include a space between the measurement and the percent symbol (e.g. 50%).

    14. Decimal Format

    a. Truncating vs. Rounding To maintain accuracy, truncate actual dimensions that have more than three decimal places. Do not round any actual dimensions up or down. For example, a dimension of 0.0966 would be truncated to 0.09.

    b. Decimal Places In general, use two decimal places when displaying

dimensions; however, do not carry decimals more than three places (e.g. 0.375), except where necessary to provide an accurate dimension. If the dimension ends in 0, then only two decimals places are needed (i.e. a dimension of 0.370 would read 0.37).

    c. Use of Common Fractions If using fractions, reduce to their most

common, lowest form (i.e. halves, quarters, eighths, sixteenths and thirty-seconds).

    d. Numbers Greater than One When entering a number in a unit of measure

(UOM) field that requires a decimal response, only use a decimal point if there is a number greater than 0 to the right of the decimal (e.g. 8.01 is correct; 8.0 should be entered as just 8).

the document or its content without the express written permission of Lowes Legal Department is prohibited.

    10

    e. Numbers Less than One Always use a zero as a placeholder in front of the decimal for any number less than one (e.g. 0.7, 0.065).

    15. Battery Quantities Battery quantity and type should be listed without a hyphen

between the quantity and battery type (e.g. 4 AAA batteries).

    Search Engine Optimization Rules

    16. General Keyword Use In order to increase product exposure in search engines, ensure the language used to describe products matches the language customers use when searching for your products. NOTE: To determine which words people are likely to use in searches, refer to Google AdWords Keyword Planner (https://adwords.google.com/o/KeywordTool).

IV. Product-Specific Attributes The following standards apply to product-specific attributes. The standards in this section pay special attention to data consistency and other issues that apply to free-text, drop-down or number-only responses. Please review these standards closely. Following these standards is the best way to reduce data rejections and expediently have your information approved by Lowe's for marketing use.

    A. Product-Specific Attributes - Basic Standards

    1. Consistency Ensure that all attribute responses match anything listed in the supplier bullets and shown in the images.

    2. Color/Finish Family Attribute Color is one of the most-searched attributes on Lowes.com, so choosing correct and consistent colors is key to bringing online customers to your products. To that end, when choosing the color or finish of your product, you should generally choose the option that represents the primary theme or, in other words, more than 50% of the total product that is visible to the customer when in use. However, for certain types of products, the color or finish should be determined based on customer usage. For example, if your product is a home dcor item, choose the color or finish based on the part of the product that the customer would match to their own dcor. Similarly, choose the color or finish based on the part of the product that is visible when in use.

the document or its content without the express written permission of Lowes Legal Department is prohibited.

    11

    a. Colors A color should be used if a products theme has a flat, matted, or powder-coated look. Color responses include Aqua/Turquoise, Black, Blue, Brown/Tan, Cream/Beige/Almond, Gray/Silver, Green, Orange/Peach/ Apricot, Purple/Lavender, Red/Pink, White and Yellow/Gold.

    b. Finishes A finish should be used if a products theme has a metal look or surface. Finish responses include Aluminum, Brass, Bronze, Chrome, Copper, Iron, Metallic, Nickel, Pewter, Steel-Painted, Steel-Stainless, Tin and Zinc. NOTE: Dont choose the response Steel-Stainless unless the item is actually made of stainless steel.

    c. Additional Responses Other responses for Color/Finish Family include Clear, Multicolor and Other:

Clear should be chosen when the majority of the product is colorless and made of a transparent material (e.g. glass, plastic).

This products finish is a polished metal surface that should be called Chrome.

This products finish is a duller metal surface that

    should be called Metallic.

This products color is Gray/Silver, as the surface

    is matted, not metal.

    Acceptable Use of Clear

The customer would look for a tabletop to match their dcor, so the correct

    color to choose is Brown/Tan.

The customer will only see the black trim of this recessed light when in use, so the

correct color to choose is Black.

    12

Multicolor should only be chosen when no single color makes up the majority of the products surface. Choosing this option should be avoided when possible.

Other is also an available response, but should be avoided when possible. Color/Finish Family dropdown responses include an expansive list of color and finish families to represent your product. If, however, you feel that none of the responses fit, you may choose Other as a response. Please note that Other is not widely searched and will not assist customers in their online search.

    d. Color Swatches When a swatch is utilized to note the actual color or finish

of a product, the Color/Finish Family response must match the color or finish of the swatch. For more information on color swatches, see the Image Standards section of this document.

    e. Consistency with Other Color Attributes When other color attributes, such as Manufacturer Color/Finish, are present in the MDS, the response in the other color attribute must match the response for Color/Finish Family. For example, if the response chosen for Color/Finish Family is Blue, the Manufacturer Color/Finish should not read Springtime Green.

    3. Package Contents Attribute If your product has a "Package Contents" attribute, be sure to list all of items included with the purchase, excluding documentation such as assembly instructions. Stating Product is not specific enough. List all the items, including the primary product being sold (e.g. if the item is a Cordless Drill, Package Contents might be Drill, 30-minute charger, 2 batteries, side handle and carrying case). Use sentence case when listing the items and do not use a period at the end of the list. Also, do not list packaging materials such as cardboard or plastic.

    4. Collection/Suite/Series Attributes You should always capitalize the name of your

collection, suite or series. Do not, however, include the word Collection, Suite or Series after the name in the attribute response. This rule of omitting the word after the name only applies in the attributes, not the supplier bullets.

NOTE: If you do not have an actual collection, suite or series name, do not populate these attributes with your brand name or any other description. Because these attribute responses may become part of the Lowes Product Description (LPD), incorrect responses or long descriptions will negatively affect the LPD, our search engine and confuse the customer. Populate the field with N/A if you do not have a collection, suite or series name.

    Acceptable Use of Multicolor

    Unacceptable Use of Multicolor

    (Should Be Blue)

    13

    10-year against cracks Lifetime None

No Yes Satisfaction guaranteed 30-day return policy

    5. Warranty Attributes There are different types of warranty attributes, and in any warranty attribute, the response you provide must match your written warranty exactly (e.g. 10-year limited vs. 10-year). If you need to expand on your warranty, additional guidance can be provided in a supplier bullet.

    a. Base Warranty and Related Warranty Attributes The Base Warranty Parts and Base Warranty Labor attributes represent a products standard warranty for Parts or Labor in terms of months. These attributes are used for Repair Services and do not display on Lowes.com. If the product has a lifetime warranty for either Parts or Labor, enter 9999 in the corresponding cell; if the product does not have a warranty, enter 0 in the cell. Manufacturers Warranty (Parts) and Manufacturers Warranty (Labor) are attributes used on Lowes.com. The terms for these warranties must match the terms for the related Base Warranty attributes. For instance, if the Base Warranty Parts term is 12 months, then the term for the Manufacturers Warranty (Parts) should be 1 year. Other warranty attributes, such as Manufacturers Warranty and Warranty, also display on Lowes.com and must correlate with the longest term of a products base warranties. For instance, if a products Base Warranty Parts is 12 months and it has no Base Warranty Labor, the Manufacturers Warranty would be 1-year limited. If a products Base Warranty Parts is a lifetime warranty and the Base Warranty Labor is 24 months, the Warranty would be limited lifetime.

    b. Free-Text Warranty Attribute Responses Please limit your response for free-text warranty attributes to only basic coverage details. Hyphenate the number of years and the word year. Do not include the word warranty at the end of your response, and always use sentence case (e.g. Limited lifetime).

Examples of acceptable warranty attribute responses:

    25-year 10-year limited 30-day

Examples of unacceptable warranty attribute responses:

    c. Additional Warranty Information Do not use the word guarantee in any warranty information, because guarantees cannot be substantiated. In addition, do not refer to phone numbers or websites for warranty details. Instead, direct the consumer in a supplier bullet to refer to the product packaging, label or Warranty Guide included as a supporting document for complete warranty information.

unit. For example, dont provide a measurement in inches when feet are requested.

    8. Required Attributes with Non-Applicable Responses If you have a required attribute for an item for which you dont have a response, you may use N/A. Do not spell out Not applicable.

    9. Safety Listing Attributes If your product has a plug-in feature, meaning it plugs

into a wall, one of the following attributes must have a response of Yes: ETL, CSA or UL Safety Listing.

    10. Trademark Symbols Do not use trademark or any other symbols in attribute

responses. These symbols do not translate correctly online.

    11. Integrated Planning and Execution (IP&E) Attributes Attributes found on the Marketing Data Spreadsheet (MDS) that begin with IP&E or end with Band are considered Product-Specific Selling Attributes (PSSAs) for IP&E. They are not customer facing and will not be visible in any Lowes channels. These attributes are used solely during the IP&E process during Product Line Reviews.

These IP&E PSSAs are used to consolidate the amount of attribute responses. For example, Color Band would consolidate color responses of Almond, Beige, Cream and Biscuit into White for classification purposes.

    B. Product-Specific Attributes - Copy Standards

Basic Rules 1. Text Format Use sentence case. In other words, capitalize only the first letter of

the first word of a sentence. If using proper names for an attribute response, such as a Collection name or proprietary Manufacturer Color/Finish name, you may use title case (e.g. Kobalt Blue, Venetian Bronze, South Beach). Do not write bullets in all capital letters or all lowercase letters.

    2. Punctuation Leave off punctuation at the end of attribute responses. Do not use

periods or exclamation points. 3. Abbreviations If you use abbreviations, they should be common, standard

abbreviations that consumers can easily understand (e.g. HP for horsepower or LED for light-emitting diode). Do not use abbreviations an average customer would not understand (e.g. LR for left-to-right).

    15

Number and Measurement Rules In general, use the US system of measurements; do not use the metric system, unless otherwise requested by Lowes. Also, keep your measurements consistent as either decimals or fractions within your free-text attributes. Do not alternate using decimals and fractions. Please refer to the Fraction-Decimal-Metric Conversion Chart contained in this document for help converting measurements.

    4. Units of Measure (UOM) Per the National Institute of Standards and Technology

(NIST), units of measure should typically be lowercase, abbreviated and without periods (e.g.

    7-1/2 42 in. x 8 ft. 6-ft. 4-in. L x 3-in. W

The following examples are acceptable free-text attribute responses:

    7-1/2-in 42-in x 8-ft 6-ft 4-in L x 3-in W

    b. Pounds The pound sign (#) may not be used to represent pounds when referring to weight. Instead, use lb or lbs without periods.

    c. Dimension Abbreviations When indicating length, width, height, depth or diameter, use a space and then the abbreviations L, W, H, D or dia (e.g. 3-1/2-in L x 2-1/4-in W). L, W, H and D should be capitalized, while dia should be lowercase and without a period. Additionally, the x between dimensions should be lowercase with a single space on either side of it.

    5. Whole Numbers with Fractions A whole number with a fraction (a mixed number) should be written with the whole number first, then a hyphen, followed by the top number of the fraction, a forward slash, then the bottom number. Do not include spaces between characters (e.g. 10-1/2).

    6. Decimal Format

    a. Truncating vs. Rounding To maintain accuracy, truncate actual dimensions that have more than three decimal places. Do not round any actual dimensions up or down. For example, a dimension of 0.0966 would be truncated to 0.09.

the document or its content without the express written permission of Lowes Legal Department is prohibited.

    16

    b. Decimal Places In general, use two decimal places when displaying dimensions; however, do not carry decimals more than three places (e.g. 0.375), except where necessary to provide an accurate dimension. If the dimension ends in 0, then only two decimals places are needed (i.e. a dimension of 0.370 would read 0.37).

    c. Use of Common Fractions If using fractions, reduce to their most common, lowest form (i.e. halves, quarters, eighths, sixteenths and thirty-seconds).

    d. Numbers Greater than One When entering a number in a unit of measure (UOM) field that requires a decimal response, only use a decimal point if there is a number greater than 0 to the right of the decimal (e.g. 8.01 is correct; 8.0 should be entered as just 8).

    e. Numbers Less than One Always use a zero as a placeholder in front of the decimal for any number less than one (e.g. 0.7, 0.065).

    V. Image Standards The following standards apply to product images and logos. The product images and logos collected through your marketing data are for use on Lowes.com and in Selling Center. Images for print or tab advertising will be handled by a separate department/team. Please review these standards closely to reduce data rejections and expediently have your information approved by Lowe's for marketing use.

    A. Product Image & Logo Specifications Specifications Images Logos

    Size 900 x 900 pixels (minimum) 900 x 900 pixels (minimum) Resolution 150 DPI (minimum) 72 DPI (minimum)

Individual File Size 7.99 MB (maximum) per upload 1 MB (maximum) File Type JPEG file type (.JPG) only .JPG only

Image Background Silhouetted (silo) white background

    Silhouetted (silo) white background

    1. Images must be uploaded into Product Content Management (PCM) in the JPEG

format. Exact file names should be used on the Marketing Data Spreadsheet (MDS).

    2. Submitting New Items When submitting marketing data for items that are new to Lowes, any images should be named according to the naming convention above. See How to Submit New Items in the PI Builder File Quick Reference Guide.

    3. Updating Existing Items

    a. When updating existing items and replacing images, the new images should be named according to the naming convention above. See How to Update Existing Items in the PI Builder File Quick Reference Guide.

    b. When updating existing items without replacing images, use the same file names on your MDS that display in PCM. You do not need to follow the naming convention above.

    B. The Front-Facing Image

    1. Lowes requires that the Asset View/Type 1 submitted on the MDS and uploaded into PCM is the front-facing image. Front-facing image is a phrase that pertains to the main image displayed for a product on Lowes.com and in Selling Center.

    2. The primary, front-facing image should be out of package. There are product

exceptions to this rule. For more information, please refer to page 20, as well as the Unique Standards by Division section (pages 31-55).

    3. Do not include more than one product in your image. For example, if your product

comes in multiple colors, but is sold individually, do not include the different-colored products in one product image.

    4. If the product in your image has words on it (e.g. brand name or model number),

this information must correspond with your specifications and supplier bullets.

    18

    5. The primary image must accurately represent your product in its best form. The image should be on a white background in the silhouette (silo) format. In addition, the image must be sized appropriately and must fill at least 90% of the canvas size.

NOTE: An exception to this rule is if the product is completely white and cannot be recognized on a white background. In such cases, use a lighter-shaded background, such as very light gray or tan, or add a light shadow to the product to create depth. Make sure to shade or darken the background only, and not the product itself, to help ensure a more accurate representation of the product color. If your product is paint and the image is of the paint color, an image disclaimer is recommended (e.g. Actual color may vary from on-screen and printer representations).

IMAGES MUST FILL AT LEAST 90% OF THE CANVAS SIZE:

CORRECT WHITE SPACE EXCESSIVE WHITE SPACE Items that are not square or round should have at least two sides that fill at least 90% of the canvas size:

CORRECT WHITE SPACE CORRECT WHITE SPACE

    6. Lowes recognizes that certain products are able to display more features and details of the product by conveying a slight angle or different view than a head-on shot. While acceptable, these images are still considered front-facing when completing your MDS and uploading the file to PCM.

NOTE: If you are not sure if your image meets the requirements outlined, please contact your Product Information Specialist.

    7. Primary images cannot include any added text or promotional graphics, including

awards, to endorse the product. The image should only feature the product being sold. An exception to this rule is if you are utilizing a color swatch and noting the actual color of the product (see page 21 for additional information).

    C. Alternative Primary Image Standards Lowes also recognizes that certain products cannot meet all of the above requirements due to certain vendor limitations. To accommodate these exceptions, Lowes developed the Alternative Primary Image Standards. However, a vendor must provide all images in one standard across a category.

    1. In-Package or Package Front Products such as batteries, nails, parts and similar small items can be submitted in the package as long as the package is legible.

Acceptable In-Package or Package Front Examples

    2. Line Art Products such as parts, moulding and lumber can be represented using

line art. It must be free of writing unless specifically related to the product.

    Acceptable Line Art Examples

    3. One Image Multiple Items Images may be used for one-to-multiple

relationships, meaning one picture may be used for different sizes as long as the benefits and features are identical. However, please note that you must upload an image for each GTIN/item submitted, even if it is the same picture (e.g. 100 GTINs/items = 100 images). The file name must be different for each image uploaded. NOTE: Images featuring assorted GTINs will be accepted for use in other applications, but are not used for Lowes.com.

    4. Color/Finish Swatches Images may be used for a one-to-multiple relationship with use of swatches, meaning that one sink may be used for all colors as long as the benefits and features are identical.

    a. Swatch should be no larger than 1/4 of the image size. b. Product must be the main focus in the image. c. Swatch must be located in a lower corner of the image. d. Image fonts for swatches: Title case for Color/Finish in black, Verdana

Regular (7 pt. font size/9 pt. line size). e. If swatch is near white, a black outline must be around the swatch to

    contrast against the white background.

    5. In-Use/Lifestyle Photography In-use or lifestyle images can only be submitted as a

primary image if no other option is available or for contextual reasoning. a. The actual product must be the central/primary focus of the image. b. When any other items are shown in the image that are not included with

the purchase, an image disclaimer must be used. Refer to page 6 for more information about image disclaimers.

In general, in-use/lifestyle images may not include people, except with the following products:

Outdoor recreational categories (e.g. playsets, play toys, games and pools) Costume products

People featured in images may not resemble famous or immediately recognizable people, or distract from the product. In addition, their apparel must be in good taste and cannot include logos. Model release forms must be signed by all people shown in the images, and must be made available to Lowes, if requested. Additionally, animals may be featured in images for pet products such as kennels and dog houses. The animals may not resemble famous or immediately recognizable pets, or distract from the product.

    6. Assorted Items An assorted item is a product that is available in different varieties, such as multiple colors, fragrances or sizes. Assorted items should each have a unique item number so that they can be sold across all Lowes channels. Assorted items that remain under a shared item number must be approved by the Merchandising Vice President for exclusion from Flexible Fulfillment and will be available for purchase in-store only. These approved exclusions will appear on Lowes.com as In-Store Only items, meaning a customer can view the items but cannot transact online, and the items will be removed from all print advertising and other sales channels.

The following rules apply to assorted items with shared item numbers only: In order for customers to view the different varieties available for purchase for assorted items with a shared item number, a group shot of the assorted items is acceptable and encouraged for the primary image. The image guidelines for assorted items with shared item numbers are as follows:

    a. If the product or feature is part of the customer buying decision, then all available products should be included in the primary image.

    b. As with all primary images, the items must still be out of package, silhouetted on a white background, and together they must fill at least 90% of the canvas.

    c. For assorted items that are available in different colors, populate the Manufacturer Color/Finish and Color/Finish Family attribute responses with Multicolor; do not list all the color options.

    d. Secondary or multiple images are highly recommended for assorted items. The additional images should highlight the features of the individual products.

    e. To ensure there is no confusion as to what is included with the product purchase, an image disclaimer is required for the primary image. Suggested disclaimers include:

Individually sold; colors may vary Individually sold; availability may vary by store

Use the supplier bullets to provide additional details about the different varieties and options available for customers.

NOTE: Nursery items are not required to show all varieties in the primary image because they can only be bought in a local Lowes store, and assortments will vary by store.

An in-use image is not acceptable as the primary

Items must be silhouetted on a white background

If items are sold separately, they cannot be shown in a pack

Only the items for sale are allowed in the primary (if candles arent

    included, they cannot be shown)

    23

    D. Unacceptable Images 1. If an image fails to meet required or alternative standards, it will be rejected and the

vendor will need to resubmit. Please refer to How to Submit New Items in the PI Builder File Quick Reference Guide for steps on how to upload digital assets.

    Unacceptable Image Examples

Unnecessary Writing Adds no value to overall image. Information should be listed in attributes or bullets section.

Main Focus Image must be close-up of item being sold. Leads to confusion about which item is for sale.

Items Not Included Extra objects, lights, mailbox and welcome mat must be cropped or cut out of image.

Incorrect In-Package Image Product should be out of package and silhouetted on white background.

    Incorrect Swatching Actual

product must be the main focus with the color swatch being 1/4 of the product size.

Small/Blurry Images Images must be at least 900 pixels by 900 pixels so they are clear and large enough for the consumer to see. The product should fill the majority of the canvas size.

Partial Images Are not acceptable. Backgrounds for

in-use shots add context and are relevant to full view of image.

Incorrect Swatching White swatch needs to have black border/outline for contrast.

Package Art While some line art images are acceptable, product packaging with specs and color bars is not.

Multiple Products Do not include multiple items in your product image if they are not included.

Unacceptable Text/Logo on the Background Logos are not acceptable on the background, and the disclaimer text should be just that, a disclaimer, not part of the image.

Graphics/Promotion/Awards Product images cannot include any awards or graphics; the image should strictly be of the product being sold.

VI. Multiple Images Standards The following standards apply only to multiple/secondary product images not primary images. The additional product images will be featured on your items detail page on Lowes.com. NOTE: Multiple images do not include supporting documents such as Warranty Guides, Dimensions Guides or Use and Care Manuals. Supporting documents must be PDF files and cannot be uploaded as an image. For more information, see the Supporting Documents section of this document.

    A. Multiple Images Specifications

Specifications Images Size 900 x 900 pixels (minimum)

    Quality High resolution

    Naming Convention Barcode_SequentialCharacter.JPG (e.g. 000123456789_2.JPG or 000123456789_3.JPG)

    B. Multiple Images Guidelines

    1. Up to nine secondary images for a single item may be provided using Asset View/Type 2 through Asset View/Type 10 on the Marketing Data Spreadsheet (MDS). Remember that you must include the primary, front-facing image file name under Asset View/Type 1 when uploading multiple images.

    2. Images can include alternate views of your product, close-ups of specific features and in-use photography. Unlike primary images, which must be silhouetted on a white background, additional images do not need to be silhouetted, unless they are only of the product itself, and not in-use or lifestyle shots.

If your product features integrated lighting, such as a pre-lit Christmas tree or rope lights, you may show the lit product silhouetted on a black background as a secondary image to best display the lighting feature. See example on page 27.

    3. Multiple images must represent the specific product being sold, so they must

feature the exact color, finish, etc. no alternate colors or models are acceptable.

    4. People may not be featured in any images. You may show a persons extremities, such as their hands, but you cannot show their full bodies and/or faces.

NOTE: This rule does not apply to costume products or outdoor recreational categories, such as playsets, play toys, games and pools, which are allowed to feature people (full bodies and/or faces) in both primary and secondary images. Refer to the In-Use/Lifestyle Photography section on page 21 for further clarification around this rule.

the document or its content without the express written permission of Lowes Legal Department is prohibited.

    25

    5. Copyright information is not acceptable in any images.

    6. A disclaimer must be used for secondary images that feature items that are not included with the product. Because disclaimers display next to a products primary image, disclaimers that apply only to secondary images must be preceded with verbiage such as In-use/lifestyle images, Additional images or Secondary images. Acceptable secondary image disclaimer examples include:

In-use/lifestyle images accessories not included Additional images bathtub not included Secondary image only umbrella included

Secondary image storage bins and ladder not included In-use/lifestyle image only rug included Usage Tip: If you have an existing image disclaimer for an item, use a semicolon to separate the two disclaimers (e.g. Actual item may vary in color from screen representation; additional images accessories not included). NOTE: The image disclaimer must satisfy all your product images and is limited to 120 characters with spaces.

    7. Secondary images cannot include visible logos, trademarks, brand names or trade dress on products other than the product being sold. This includes any recognizable designs, fonts or shapes that a consumer would associate with a particular brand or company. An example of an unacceptable image would be the interior of a refrigerator with recognizable cans of Coca-Cola on the shelf. Any of the above-mentioned elements from other products must be blurred or removed.

VII. Supporting Documents The following standards apply to supporting documents, such as manuals and guides. The documents collected through your marketing data are for use on Lowes.com and in Selling Center. Depending on the category of your product, some supporting documents may be required due to local, state or federal regulations. Please review these standards closely.

    A. Supporting Document Specifications Specifications PDFs

Individual File Size 7.99 MB (maximum) per upload File Type .PDF only (2007 or later)

    Quality Low resolution

    Naming Convention Barcode_SequentialCharacter.PDF (e.g. 000123456789_1.PDF)

    1. Supporting documents must be uploaded into Product Content Management (PCM)

in a PDF format of 2007 or later. Exact file names should be used in the Asset View/Type fields on the Marketing Data Spreadsheet (MDS).

    2. Submitting New Items with Supporting Documents When submitting marketing

data for items that are new to Lowes, any supporting documents should be named according to the naming convention above. See How to Submit New Items in the PI Builder File Quick Reference Guide.

    3. Updating Existing Items with Supporting Documents

    a. When updating existing items and replacing supporting documents, the new PDFs should be named according to the naming convention above. See How to Update Existing Items in the PI Builder File Quick Reference Guide.

    b. When updating existing items without replacing supporting documents, use

the same file names on your MDS that display in PCM. You do not need to follow the naming convention above.

    B. Required Documents

While they are not required for all products, supporting documents are required for certain products per local, state or federal regulations, or Lowes. For a list of categories that require supporting documents, review Required Supporting Documents by Category on LowesLink. Additionally, if your supplier bullet makes a claim of energy savings, depending on the type of product, you must provide either an EnergyGuide or FTC Lighting Facts to substantiate your claim, and you must disclose how the savings were calculated in that bullet (e.g. Can save up to 78% more energy compared to incandescent, based on 3 hrs/day, 11/kwh). NOTE: Submit these documents in the PDF format, and make sure to choose the correct Asset View/Type from the drop-down list on your MDS.

    1. EnergyGuides According to the federal government, EnergyGuides must be

provided for certain products. Refer to the Unique Standards by Division section of this document for information on which categories require EnergyGuides.

    http://www.loweslink.com/llmain/pubdocuments/hlPI_Builder_Quick_Reference_Guide.pdfhttp://www.loweslink.com/llmain/pubdocuments/hlPI_Builder_Quick_Reference_Guide.pdfhttp://www.loweslink.com/llmain/pubdocuments/HLpcmRequiredSupportingDocumentsbyCategory.pdf

the document or its content without the express written permission of Lowes Legal Department is prohibited.

    29

NOTE: You must provide written documentation to your Product Information Specialist if your item is exempt from this requirement.

    a. Every EnergyGuide submitted must match the model number provided in the marketing data.

    b. If your product is ENERGY STAR qualified, and you choose Yes for the

ENERGY STAR Qualified attribute on the MDS, then the EnergyGuide you upload for that item must have the ENERGY STAR logo on it. If it does not, the EnergyGuide and your data will be rejected.

NOTE: An EnergyGuide is not directly related to the ENERGY STAR program. An EnergyGuide tells how much energy a product uses and allows consumers to compare the energy use of similar products. ENERGY STAR-qualified products meet energy-efficiency requirements set by the government. The ENERGY STAR logo may appear on the EnergyGuide, but only if the product meets requirements for energy efficiency.

    2. FTC Lighting Facts According to the federal government, Federal Trade

Commission (FTC) Lighting Facts must be provided for certain light bulbs as a measure to help consumers compare energy efficiency. Refer to the Fashion Fixtures division in the Unique Standards by Division section of this document for information on which products may require Lighting Facts.

    D. Kitchens and Appliances

    Appliances:

    1. General a. Attention to detail is very important. Lowe's requires our major appliance vendors to

provide a large number of attributes. To avoid providing conflicting attributes, you should be very careful when entering data and double-check your work before you submit it for approval.

    b. Avoid entering an attribute response that doesnt make sense (e.g. If "Number of Rack Positions" for a range = 1, the "Number of Racks Included" should not = 2).

    c. Overall Capacity The attribute Overall Capacity for refrigerators is a measure of the unit's entire volume, so it must include the cubic feet for both the refrigeration and freezer sections. The number of cubic feet that you list for the Refrigerator Capacity and the Freezer Capacity attributes must equal the Overall Capacity.

    d. Color/Finish Attributes The Color and/or Finish must correspond with the Color and/or Finish Family chosen. We ask for both attributes for grouping/searching purposes on Lowes.com.

    e. Color/Finish Description in Bullets When describing an items color/finish in bullets, hyphenate the descriptors (e.g. brushed-nickel finish, oil-rubbed bronze, satin-nickel finish, stainless-steel trim).

    f. When describing the chrome and nickel ratio of stainless-steel kitchen utensils, which fall under Appliances, use a forward slash, not a hyphen, between the two ratio numbers (e.g. 18/10).

    2. Other Color Model IDs Available This is a free-text field, limited to 254 characters with

spaces (not words). If using alpha characters, letters should be written in all capitals (e.g. AHS543-1).
