VII. SCADA INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
1) GEA – ARC
‐A project of 216 Input/Output and of value: 200 000 Euros.
ARC International factory (France), entrusted GEA Process Engineering (Bischoff) a turnkey project for automatic
system for the smoke treatment of a glass production facility in its factory, this smoke treatment was carried out
for 2 ovens (Oven H and L). The work included the installation of electrical equipment and the implementation
of an automated process. Technord (where I worked in France) was the subcontractor of GEA for this project.
A reagent is injected into the gas stream to dilute corrosive dust particles and mix it with material that will allow
the gas to be easily transported. This will also allow us to absorb the acid gas components (SOx, HCl, HF). The
reagent reacts with the SOx hence allowing it to be effortlessly collected as dust within the ESP (electrostatic
filter) and then evacuated from the system by a conveyor system.
The facility includes the following equipment:
• A gas circuit comprising ducts, exhaust fan (drive).
• An electrostatic filter (Electro‐ION BLAST 1).
• A dust removal system that consists of a conveyor and a screw valve.
• A Big‐Bag System.
• A lime Ca(OH)2 Silo injection and storage station.

Our work consisted of the following
Functional analysis
PLC programming
SCADA Supervision programming
Designing and verification of electrical diagrams
Tests
Commissioning
The PLC programming was the longest part of this project. The PLC program should completely match the
previously designed functional analysis. The work was done on SIEMENS – Step7 programming software.
The architecture of the project consisted of 1 new PLC that is connected to an old existing PLC for furnace control
room. The new PLC is connected to a deported Input Output unit and also to a VFD SINAMIC G150. The main PLC
is then connected to a SCADA supervisory computer with an optional workstation for monitoring and control.

2) BALTHAZARD & COTTE
‐A project of value: 80 000 Euros.
Balthazard & Cotte is a company of Lhoist group, world leader in lime production. We have developed an
automated system for logistics and weighing management of trucks through an interactive terminal. This
terminal allows the drivers to identify themselves when entering a site and the weighting scale saves the weight
of the truck.
The truck goes into the site and fills the truck with the finished product. Before exiting the site, the truck goes
into another weighing station where his weight difference is taken and a bill of delivery is printed automatically.
This system interfaces with the ERP system (SAP in this case), to allow a complete automation of the process
including financial transactions. This technology was installed in all site of Balthazard & Cotte.

4) ARKOPHARMA
‐A project of value: 303 000 Euros.
This project was focused on improving the pharmaceutical industry by tracking all the weighing processes; this
can also be called MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and it is connected to the ERP (Enterprise Resource
Planning) in order to have the clearest possible view on the enterprise and its manufacturing part. The work
consisted of analyzing a proper pharmaceutical industrial project and to create which elements in it has to be
tracked and saved in a historical database in order to retrieve this information when needed. After that, we have
created a model of the tracking program and integrated a Gantt chart so that it would organize all the weighting
orders optimally.
