ANAESTHETIC Lignocaine Gel 2% Indications Lignocaine Gel is used for topical anaesthesia and anaesthesia of mucous membranes where lubrication is required. Contains: Lignocaine hydrochloride BP 22mg/g in a clear, water-soluble gel preserved with methyl hydroxybenzoate. Lignocaine is a local anaesthetic of the amide type. It produces a reversible loss of sensation by preventing or diminishing the conduction of sensory nerve impulses near the site of application. It is rapidly absorbed from mucous membranes and damaged skin producing rapid, local anaesthesia in these areas. Absorption from intact skin is poor. Directions for use Adults and Children over 12 years Anaesthesia of skin and mucous membranes: Apply a thin layer as needed or as directed by your Healthcare Professional. Endoscopy: Up to 20g. Lubrication for endotracheal intubation: 2g to the surface of the tube. Maximum Dose: No more than 30g of gel should be given in any 12 hour period. Children (under 12 years) Up to 6mg/kg can be used. Features and benefits Lignocaine is absorbed from mucous membranes producing rapid local anaesthesia. Precautions • Use only on medical advice. • Do not eat or drink within 60 minutes of using the gel in the mouth or throat area. • Absorption from mucous membranes is relatively high, excess gel should be removed. • If irritation occurs, stop use immediately and seek medical advice. • Use with caution in patients with severely traumatized mucosa and/or sepsis in the

region of proposed application.
