See you in church!
EKLC is looking forward to a new and exciting Sunday
School year! Join us in our kick-off on Rally day
September 13th, beginning with worship at 9am,
followed by fellowship and fun activities in the educa-tion wing! This day marks
the beginning of our education programs.
2015/2016 Sunday School Registration forms can be found on our website:
http://www.eastkoshkonong.org/
in the narthex and will be available on Rally day.
Dear Friends in Christ,
Autumn is here! Colorful fall leaves, chrysanthemums, cooler weather, football games, pumpkin patches - this is my favorite time of the year. God’s tapestry is gorgeous any time of the year, but for me, fall is particularly wonderful and awesome. My family and I are looking forward to our first Wisconsin autumn together.
Things also become wonderful and awesome at church in the autumn months. We honor our heritage with Reformation Day and remember the saints of all time. We give thanks and pre-pare our lives for the Christ child to be born in us and among us. Sunday school begins, we prepare for Confirmation Day, and this year our EKL Youth Group will keep their momentum going.
The youth momentum is going strong because of your support of them. The adults’ encour-agement of the youth at EKLC was seen especially at our first annual EKLC Family Reunion on August 23. The younger youth played games, the older youth washed cars, and everyone was somehow, some way involved in the pie auction. If you missed this event, you’ll want to mark your calendars for next year’s family reunion (date to be determined). We had lively worship and enjoyed fellowship with one another.
Thank you to the ARK Committee for organizing this wonderful event. Thank you to everyone who donated pies for the auction, salads for the picnic meal, bids and money for the auction, and time to serve the food and play the games and auction the pies and wash the cars.
The free-will offering at the meal was for the ARK committee, and we collected $381! The free-will collection at the car wash was for the youth group, and we collected $335! The pie auction was to support the EKL youth as well, and we collected $2740! What a great way to start a youth group and to celebrate our life together in Christ. Thank you, East Koshkonong!
This could not have been done without the support that Thrivent provided for us. Two of our EKLC members who are also Thrivent members applied for a Thrivent Action Team grant, and both grants were approved. Each grant was for $250, so we received $500 all togeth-er. $250 was used for supplies on the car wash, and $250 was used for food for the pic-nic. Anyone who is a Thrivent member can apply for 1-2 grants per year. If you are a mem-ber of Thrivent, you could apply for a grant like this to support any kind of ministry in our con-gregation, and support our congregation in this way!
All of this to say, thanks be to God, summer has been great at EKLC. With our summer mo-mentum, autumn promises to be great as well!
See you in church!

Thank you….
Members of EKLC, Thank you for bringing in your Cambridge Piggly Wiggly receipts! EKLC received a check for $255 this July because of this effort! The monies received from this payout went towards the postage and shipping costs for the Lutheran World Relief Kits. Save up those CAMBRIDGE PIGGLY WIGGLEY RECIEPTS and bring them to church where there is a collection can in the nathex! Just a reminder that all receipts turned in before December will be included in the January 2016 payout. Follow-ing is from a letter EKLC received from Amy Day, Cambridge Piggly Bank Coordiantor: ...I have been hearing quite a bit lately about the importance of shopping local, and how much it helps to support the community. This program is a great example of that. So far, Cambridge Piggly Wiggly has given out over $107,000 to community organization with just the Pig-gy Bank Program!...(Letter in it’s entirety is posted in the Narthex)
Dear Friends of East Koshkonong Lutheran Church,
thank you for your donation of the five lap blankets and two blankets to Skaalen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for our Fall Festival. In service to our resi-dents, we appreciate your kindness.

ICE CREAM
SOCIAL THANK
YOU!
The Skaalen Ice Cream Social and raffle
was again a success this year! Many came
early to enjoy the special music in the chap-
el before enjoying a piece of pie from a wide
selection of assorted homemade pies donat-
ed by members of Skaalen affiliated
churches. Schoeps again donated all ice
cream! Many many thanks to Sharon Ja-
cobson, Karen Hayes and Jane Furseth for
donating 2 pies each on our behalf. As in
the past, an anonymous person paid for all
pie and ice cream for Skaalen residents.
They really enjoy looking over and select-
ing that special piece of pie! Raffle prize
winners were drawn at 3:30. I have put up
the chart listing all the winners...and am
sorry to say that no one from East Koshko-
nong won this year! Please know that all
profits from this annual event goes to the
benefit of the Skaalen residents. Again,
MANY THANKS! ~ Wilma Furseth

fall book study on understanding racism and privilege in our so-
ciety. Anyone who is interested in this topic, please join in for
an at-most hour-long introductory meeting on September 23 at
5:00 pm. We will take a look at the book Waking Up White, and
Finding Myself in the Story of Race by Debby Irving. For ques-
tions about this or if you'd like to join but this time does not
work, please contact Pastor Brenda.

News from the Church Basement Ladies
Did anyone notice where the summer went so quickly? And why does the winter not pass so fast?
The next meeting of the Women of East will take place on September 3, in Friendship Hall at the lower church. This is the one meeting we have of the traditional meeting type, where we have some food, probably a dessert, hosted by Light Circle, a business meeting, and an introduction to the Bible Study of the year. These studies are taking a different form now; they are arranged in 3 month lessons, and the subject changes. You may have noticed in your Gather magazine that the first subject is Sabbath Keeping. This does not point only to Sundays, but is about a rhythm and pace for life, letting us know we need to take time for ourselves and for appreciating the gifts of God. A later one will deal with the book of Philippians, and will be introduced at this September meeting. All are invited to attend. It's a good time to renew friendships with the other women of East, and get ourselves organized for the year. We will need to select a day for finishing the pack-ing (we packed around 70 school kits in August, and can pack as many more as we have contents for the backpacks), and getting our quilts and kits ready for shipping in October.
You may have seen Sue Repyak with a signup sheet for our Fireside outing on October 6. This event is for all who would like to attend the Christian Concert and buffet lunch. The cost is $38.50 which includes tip, and is payable to Sue. Here's another opportunity for fun and fellowship with our friends at East.
Our next Meals on Wheels work will happen on weekdays from October 5 thru 16. Please let me know when you would like to do this, and I will get you on the schedule. Contact me at 423-4048 or [email protected] Thank you so much for taking on this responsibility, and thanks for contacting me so that I don't have to make all those phone calls to talk you into taking a day or two of deliveries!!! We will need someone for October 6 who is not planning on attending the Fireside outing, so be aware when signing up. Thanks again.
God Bless you all for the work you do for Christ, Remember, this is God's Work, our hands. Communicator Carolyn
Make your plans to attend The Fireside Christian Concert

en of the ELCA bulletin board in the Friendship Hall. Call
Sue Repyak (423-4543) if you have any questions.
