A minimum of 10 students is required per module. If less than 10 students attend, the cost of 10 students will be charged. 2. Bookings will be confirmed on receipt of a completed booking form. We will then forward a confirmation fax to your school which also needs to be completed and returned. 3. Student numbers must be confirmed by email or fax 7 working days in advance, the school will then be invoiced accordingly. 4. Changes in student numbers after the 7 working day cut off will incur a 20% administration fee. 5. Cancellation of any booking with less than 7 days notice will result in invoice for full payment. The PDHPE program is based on the 2 unit Personal Development Health & Physical Education syllabus. It offers year 11 and 12 students the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in a variety of practical settings.Workshops are ideal as an introduction, midway break or refresher as part of the school PDHPE program. Four short workshops, approximately 2 and a half hours in length are available, allowing two to be completed within the day.All students and teachers are provided with workbooks and workshops are conducted at the Health & Fitness studio at HK Ward Gymnasium.

Course OutlinemODULE 1FITNESS aSSESSmENT FOr a HEaLTHY LIFESTYLE

Year 11: Core 3 -The Body in MotionStudents will participate in fitness testing and during this time they will experience the effects of exercise on the cardio respiratory system. By the end of the module, students will have developed a personalized health related fitness profile.Outcomes: P2, P4, P8 (main focus), P11, P15, P16.

mODULE 2BODY mECHaNICS OF rOCKCLImBING

Year 11: Core 3 – The Body in MotionStudents will be able to feel and experience biomechanical principles and anatomical structures working while participating in indoor rock climbing.Outcomes: P7, P9 (strong anatomy focus).

mODULE 3PHYSIOLOGICaL rESPONSE TO CarDIOVaSCULar TraINING

Year 12: Core 2 - Factors Affecting PerformanceStudents will experience different types of training and the effects of these on the body. Energy systems used during different types of training will be examined.Outcomes: H7, H8, H17. Option: Lactate testing supplement.

mODULE 4rESISTaNCE TraINING FOr ImPrOVED PErFOrmaNCE

Year 12: Option 4 – Improving PerformanceStudents will develop an understanding of the role of weight/resistance training in improving performance. Use of VO2 submax tests and technology, including speed chutes.Outcomes: H7, H8, H10, H17.

Course Outline aPPLY FIrST aID (SENIOr FIrST aID)This is a National and AustSwim approved Apply First Aid course that certifies participants for three years. It is presented in a time-efficient manner with one day of face-to-face learning combined with a distance education workbook. The course is practical and allows participants to become confident and competent in performing first aid.Recommended for Yr 11 PDHPE students, school staff, Duke of Edinburgh participants, coaches and community members.Includes:•Certificateoncompletion•Accreditationcard•ActiveFirstAidManual

SPOrTS mEDICINE aWarENESSLearn the basics of Sports Medicine in this comprehensive practical workshop. Endorsed and produced by Sports Medicine Australia and conducted by Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness, it is ideal for covering HSC Option 3.ParT 1Sports Medicine Awareness covers prevention of injury, first aid for sports injuries, management of industries and safe sports programs.ParT 2Level 1 Sports Taping offers beginners technical and practical advice for taping athletes. Participants will learn taping techniques for injury prevention, managing existing injuries and support. Taping techniques will cover the thumb, finger and ankle.Time: 9am-3pmHalf day courses available on request.Includes:•CertificateofattendanceSMAC.•CertificateforLevel1SportsTaping.•Allequipment–includingtape.•Resourcebookandhandouts.
