Peace Day 2016 Overcome Indifference and Win Peace The security patrol passed by for a second time. We knew we only had a few minutes. We picked ourselves out of the ditch in which we had been hiding It was time Overcome indifference and win peace Standing in that ditch, thousands of miles away, I felt a real connection with the people of East Timor 29 January 1996 They shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; I believe that to be silent in this situation is to be complicit with injustice Let us pray With the help of Gods grace We will struggle for justice. With the compassion of Christ We will stand for what is true. With Gods abiding kindness We will love even our enemies. With the love of Christ We will resist all evil. With Gods unending faithfulness We will work to build the beloved community. With Christs passionate love We will carry the cross. With Gods overwhelming goodness We will walk as pilgrims of peace. With Christs fervent conviction We will labour for truth. With Gods infinite mercy We will live in solidarity with all people. In the end there are three things that last: Faith, hope, and love; and the greatest of these is love. Let us abide in Gods love Thanks be to God. Peace Day 2016 Overcome Indifference and Win Peace
