ELCA Prayer Ventures June 6-13

6 We ask God to stir in us humility, wisdom and eagerness to proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord through our faith and all we do.

7 Remember in prayer leaders and delegates gathered for the Central States, Central/Southern Illinois and New England synod assemblies, that the Spirit will strengthen, guide and encourage them for God’s work in the world and growing the church.

8 Remember in prayer leaders and delegates gathered for the Northwestern Minnesota, Southwestern Minnesota, Metropolitan Chicago, Western Iowa, Northeastern Iowa and La Crosse Area synod assemblies, that the Spirit will strengthen, guide and encourage them for God’s work in the world and growing the church.

9 Remember in prayer leaders and delegates gathered for the Northwestern Ohio, Nor theas te rn Ohio , Nor theas te rn Pennsylvania and Virginia synod assemblies, that the Spirit will strengthen, guide and encourage them for God’s work in the world and growing the church.

10 We pray the Holy Spirit will equip and inspire us to live lives that can’t be ignored or go unnoticed, lives that cause people to ask who we are, what motivates us and how they too can share in our faith, joy and hope – not for our own recognition, gratification or legacy, but for God’s glory.

11 Vacation Bible schools, day camps and outdoor ministries share the good news of God’s love through Jesus Christ with

children and youth in neighborhoods and communities across the country. Pray for the Spirit to inspire and equip leaders, volunteers and outdoor ministry staff in their work with young people, that their impact will be deep and enlivening.

12 We ask God to grant us courage, wisdom and persistence in fighting racism, working for reconciliation and healing, and recommitting our church to work for racial justice and inclusion, to work against white privilege, and to be a church that truly welcomes all.

13 Give thanks for the service and witness of the ELCA missionaries and eight young adults serving in the Young Adults in Global Mission program in Israel, Jerusalem/West Bank, Jordan and Palestine, working with our companions to grow the church, support Lutheran schools and engage in issues of peacemaking, reconciliation and interfaith dialogue.

OUTREACH Lifting of Silver Sunday, June 11, is the second Sunday Lifting of Silver for Pastor David Brondos in Mexico City. We are one of several churches that makes possible his ministry teaching seminary classes to Central and South Americans. We have committed to sending $1,200 annually.

KARM Corners of Your Field Again your donations of gently used items have had multiple good effects. People eat and sleep in safety at the mission from money earned from the sale of gently used items. In addition, KARM sends us thank-you gift cards to KARM Thrift stores that we pass on to Steps House. This quarter we passed on cards valued at $130. The things you no longer want can go into the KARM box or into the Steps House basket. Both are located in the small room to the left of the entry door. Serve at KARM It’s time for another fix and serve lunch at KARM on June 16. We start at 9:00 a.m. at the mission. If you can serve part of the time, but not the whole time from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., note that when you sign up on the sheet on the bulletin board. If you have done this before, you know the drill. If you haven’t and you have questions, ask Donna Ellstrom at [email protected]. Cedar Bluff Elementary Thanks Cedar Bluff Elementary sent a cute thank-you card for the snacks we sent to them. Look for it on the Outreach bulletin board.

NURTURE Brunch to Honor Altar Guild Most Peace members probably do not know the people who are responsible for setting up communion and keeping the altar looking clean and beautiful. They work quietly and diligently behind the scenes. Everyone is invited to attend the brunch after worship on Sunday, June 24; altar guild members, past and present, are especially invited so that we can say thank you for all their work. Thrivent is helping with seed money so that we can do this as a fundraiser for altar guild to buy something for the altar, something that goes beyond their regular budget. Food will be provided, but please bring a few coins or dollars to put in the donation basket for altar guild.

Women of Peace The Women of Peace will not meet at our regular third Tuesday time in June. We will be providing brunch to honor altar guild members on June 24 instead. We will meet in July.

Peace Women's Meet-Up Grab your yogurt and juice, or take a quick run through the drive-through line, and join us for breakfast at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, for an hour or so of fellowship. We are now meeting the second Saturday of every month. Questions? Contact Kathleen Schuller. Peace Women's Book Group On Tuesday, July 3, at 10 a.m. we will discuss Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal by Mary Roach, Americas funniest science writer. Looking ahead: August 7:,The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See.
