athletes!

Junior Family Night The Pekin Community High School Counseling Department will host a Junior Family Night: Life After High School planning meeting for juniors and their parents/guardians on Tuesday, November 14, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. in the theater. The purpose of the meeting is to present information on post secondary options, including the military, two-year and four-year colleges, and trade and technical training. Among the topics to be discussed will be the research process, the use of Career Cruising in helping to identify post-high school options, the importance of visits, admission requirements and the application process, and scholarship/financial aid information, and skills needed to be successful in the workplace. Infor-mation will also be presented for students who wish to participate in college athletics. In addition to hearing from the counselors, representatives from various institutions will also pre-sent information and answer questions. The PCHS counselors urge all juniors and their parents/guardians to attend this meeting. The information presented will be very helpful in the planning process after high school.

Online Registration for Winter Sports begins October 1, 2017

Winter sports include: Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Wrestling, and Boys Swimming.

Parents must register their student for sports online. To create a parent account, go to our athletic web-

site: www.pekinathletics.com.

Basic information such as name, address, phone number, email, and a password is needed to set up a

parent account. Once the parent account has been set up, parents can add their student(s), select the

sports in which they wish to participate, and complete the online forms.

Please note: The registration is not complete until the information under the “forms” tab is completed. If

you have more than one student, you must add them one at a time. Also, the sports registration must be

completed on a computer or laptop; this is not a mobile-friendly process.

Also, please be aware that all athletes must obtain a “Ready Card” from the Athletic Department. This

card lets coaches know that registration is complete, a sports physical is on file, and eligibility require-

ments have been met. Sports physicals must be submitted to Jamie Patton in the Athletic Office.

Student athletes need to get their Ready Card from the Athletic Office prior to the first day of Winter

Sports: October 30 (girls basketball), November 6 (boys basketball and wrestling), or November 20 (boys

swimming).

IHSA by-laws state that student-athletes will not be admitted to practice or allowed to tryout until they have

a Ready Card.

Greetings and Happy Fall. We wanted to let you know, a few items of interest for our JROTC Cadets as the cool weather comes to central Illinois. First, thanks for all those who helped with the Marigold Festival. Over a beautiful fall weekend for the 2017 Marigold Festival, your student/cadet helped the community park cars and participated in making Lemonade Shakeups with a local vendor. As October begins, we will begin tryouts for both our Drill and Rifle teams. The schedules for both teams are on our JROTC homepage. At this time, tryouts for Rifle team will take place in the classroom over a 2 week period starting on October 2nd. Drill team try outs will be announced. Also, during the month of October, your cadet will be selling butter braids to raise money for the Drill and Rifle Team. Lastly, our annual Military Ball will take place on November 18th. Cadets will receive more information on this event. I would like to extend an invitation to all of you for the first part of the Ball. This is our formal portion of the event and parents are invited to watch. After that, we ask parents to depart and the kids will participate in the informal events. Don't forget our website. Click on the link below for more information: http://www.pekinhigh.net/jrotc-home Thanks for all of your support. LTC Larry Hallstrom, Sr. Army Instructor

The PCHS Counseling Office and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) are excited to

announce that our school is hosting their 5th annual College Application Month event. The goal of the

program is to join the nationwide effort to increase the number of students pursuing a college or

technical school degree. All students will apply to at least one university/college/technical school during

the school day on Tuesday, October 24th

.

During the event, all of our seniors will be given the opportunity to apply to college in a group setting

with school staff and professional volunteers. In preparation for the event, students will be asked to

complete college research to ensure they have at least one college in mind that will be a good match for

them. It is also important that students gather information that will be needed to complete the application

prior to the event.
