Winter
This weeks joke is from a anonymous student!
Kia Ora, Malo le lei, Talofa lava, Greetings Another successful Ski trip over. My thanks to the parents and teachers who supported the children so well with this trip. We were lucky that the weather on both days was perfect. Taking children to different environments allows us to see them in a different light. The challenges
they face let us learn a lot about their dispositions and attitude to learning new things. Production. Our production is to be held on Tuesday 13th September. There will be a matinee show and an evening performance. All children will be required to attend both shows please. If you know your child can’t be there the teachers need to know now to ensure key parts have children there on the day. Tickets are Adults $2.00 children $1.00. They will go on sale in September. The winner of the Production cover design is Olika Sikei, the runner up was Michelle Fairbairn. Highly com-mended was Cameo Rm 2, Bonnie Rm 6 and Georgia Leigh Rm 3. Late Start for School This is advance warning that school will have a late start on Thursday 8th September. School will start at 11.00 a.m. on this day. All teachers in New Zealand are meeting over the next few weeks to discuss the Governments proposed funding changes for Education. We are going to try to influence the Government to improve the way they support Education. Their current proposals have many flaws and could easily lead to staffing cuts and compromises needing to be made to schools and their ability to deliver a quality education to students. Parenting ideas instalment three. http://yourot.com/parenting-club/2016/5/16/why-our-children-are-so-bored-at-school-cant-wait-and-get-so-easily-frustrated 3. Kids rule the world “My son doesn’t like vegetables” “She doesn’t like going to bed early” “He doesn’t like to eat breakfast” “She doesn’t like toys, but she is very good on her IPAD” “He doesn’t want to get dressed on his own” “She is too lazy to eat on her own”. This is what I hear from parents all the time. Since when do children dictate to us how to parent them? If we leave it all up to them , all they are going to do is eat macaroni and cheese, bagel with cream cheese, watch TV, play on their tablets, and never go to bed. What good are we doing them by giving them what they WANT when we know that it is not GOOD for them? Without proper nutrition and a good night’s sleep, our kids come to school irritable, anxious, and inattentive. In addition, we send them the wrong message. They learn they can do what they want and not do what they don’t want. The concept of “need to do’ is absent. Unfortunately, in order to achieve our goals in our lives, we have to do what’s necessary which may not always be what we want to do. For example, if a child wants to be an A student, he needs to study hard. If he wants to be a successful soccer player, he needs to practice every day. Our children know very well what they want but have very hard time to do what is necessary to achieve that goal. This results in unattainable goals and leaves the kids disappointed. 3. Don’t be afraid to set the limits. Kids need limits to grow happy and healthy!! Make a schedule for meal times, sleep times, technology time Think of what is GOOD for them- not what they WANT/DON’T WANT. They are going to thank you for that later on in life. Parenting is a hard job. You need to be creative to make them do what is good for them because most of the time that is the exact opposite of what they want Kids need breakfast and nutritious food. They need to spend time outdoor and go to bed at consistent time in order to come to school available for learning the next day! Convert things that they don’t like doing/trying into fun, emotionally stimulating games Have a great weekend Regards Brent and Staff

Zero Fees for Under 13s
Most general practices now offer zero fee visits for children under 13. To find out more ask your general practice team. You'll no longer need to
pay the $5 charge for each item of prescription medicine for under 13’s, though other charges may apply. To find our more, check with your
pharmacist. Your local DHB will ensure that children under 13 can access zero fee after hours care and prescription medicines in your area. After
hours services are designed for urgent visits when the child's regular practice is closed and where the child needs to be seen before the
practice opens again. Ask your general practice or pharmacist where to find these services.
