Tate & Lyle Safety Award PEME has finished top of the Tate & Lyle contractor safety league table for the second consecutive year. We avoided a lost time or reportable accident for the third year in a row. Points are scored for safety awards, nominations, attendance at safety meetings and holding toolbox talks. Points are lost for accidents, non- attendance at safety meetings, audit non-conformances and failing to hold toolbox talks. PEME lost no points during the year. PEME Rebranding – The FuturePEME is an exceptional engineering company that helps our clients to maintain, improve and expand their assets. This is achieved through a range of services including design, software, project installations, reliability and maintenance.

We have a proven track record working with major manufacturers. To ensure this information is communicated to our clients professionally PEME has launched a new brand including a new web-site.

IET Recognition for Laurie-ann

Managing Director, Ashley Maile, hosted the fourth annual PEME apprentice evening and introduced 11 apprentice starters. He stressed the importance of the

apprenticeship scheme to the future of PEME and awarded Jamie Barnes and Anna Walker with their advanced mechanical apprenticeship certificates having

successfully completed their apprenticeships with PEME. The 2011 new starters are; Matthew Allen, Hazel Bimson, Auroosa Bilal, Lewis Cosgrove, Lucy Fitch, Eliot Lazenby, Aaron Parker, Ricco Seedat, Chris Tangl, Ian White and Matthew Ward.

Michael Edwards provided a safety presentation and the evening presentations were closed by Craig Chaplow, owner and driver of the PEME sponsored CTR Racing, who gave an interesting insight into the engineering required to keep a F1 sidecar race-tuned.

New Safety Auditing Targets

2011 Apprentice of the YearAnna Walker was named as the 2011 PEME Apprentice of the Year. She has completed her advanced Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship with PEME during which she was awarded the PEME Special Recognition Award (2010) and the Newham College “Apprentice of the Year” (Award 2010).

Anna has demonstrated excellent commitment, flexibility and customer-care skills combined with outstanding engineering proficiency. Managing Director, Ashley Maile, is shown presenting Anna with her award and praised her for her determination and technical ability.

PEME is committed to providing a safe work environment for employees and our clients. To drive continuous improvement, new monthly targets have been set for safety audits. These will be adjusted regularly to account for the number of personnel employed on a site, for example, if a major project is in-progress or completes.

Safety Audit targets now form part of the Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for your site and will be reviewed once per month at a labour meeting.

The PEME Safety performance since 2002 is illustrated in the graph and this indicates a healthy downward trend in the number of incidents.

PEME Team Climbs KilimanjaroA team of PEME managers, clients and suppliers, recently climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa following a gruelling 9 day trek. The PEME members of the team consisted of Ashley Maile, Darren Martin, Stef Smith, Barrie Robinson and Alex Sewell.

In completing this task the team raised over £30,000 for the CLIC Sargent charity. The charity cares for children and young people with cancer. www.clicsargent.org.uk.

Alison raises funds for Charity

Accounts Manager, Alison Bimson has lost two stone whilst raising money for charity and PEME agreed to show their support by donating £1,000 to Alison’s chosen charity – Sue Ryder, Thorpe Hall Hospice. www.sueryder.org/thorpehallhospice

PEME Retain Safe Contractor StatusPEME have successfully completed the rigorous re-assessment process for the nationally recognised Safe Contractor award scheme and will have full membership for the fourth consecutive year.

Our continued membership allows clients to employ PEME, safe in the knowledge that we have been thoroughly assessed by external auditors and found to meet exacting Health and Safety standards.

PEME Sponsored British F1 Sidecar

The PEME sponsored CTR Racing finished in an admirable 11th place overall in the British F1 Championship. The penultimate event of the 2011 season was held at Silverstone and was attended by several people from PEME and our client partners. The picture shows the CTR bodywork in the PEME Industrial Engraving workshop having the new logo’s applied by Steve Payne.

New Oil Sampling EquipmentPEME has acquired a Machinery Health Oil Analyser which we use to test oil for machine wear, lube system contamination and chemistry changes. This allows us to provide a warning of unseen corrosion, contaminates, improper lubrication and machine wear. This also helps to eliminate the root cause of equipment failure.

PEME has launched a new web-site (www.peme.co.uk), incorporating our new brand. The web-site has been designed by a specialist marketing company and has clear navigation and ‘calls to action’ to improve the user experience.

In-house Skills Training UpdatePEME has developed an in-house training workshop, at our head office in Peterborough, where both engineers and apprentices can be provided with focused skills training

In our training facility, electrical-biased delegates can install, fault-find and utilise electrical equipment. The picture shows Software Manager, Clive Wardle, using the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) training panel.

We also have training rigs for mechanical engineering skills such as bearing installation, maintenance and lubrication; motor and gearbox alignment; disassembling, rebuilding and commissioning of diaphragm pumps; vibration analysis; and pneumatic circuits.

PEME Condition Register (PCR) goes 3D

PEME uses Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) techniques to help determine the condition of in-service equipment. The analysis results are held in a central location in the PEME Condition Register (PCR) with remote access to view the up-to-date information.

We have made a significant investment to improve the PCR with the introduction of 3D graphical models of our client’s sites. This improved functionality allows users to view the latest condition status of their assets. The PCR is a unique service provided to our clients and provides a significant step towards effective asset management.
