In statistics, one utilizes random samples to make

inferences about the population from which the

samples were obtained.

Statistical inference regarding population

parameters takes two forms: (1).Estimation and

(2).Hypothesis testing.

Hypothesis testing has an important role in the

application of statistics to real-life problems.

In any hypothesis testing problem, we formulate a

null hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis such

that if we reject the null, then we have to accept

the alternative.

The null hypothesis usually is a statement of either

the “status quo” or “no effect.”

A guideline for selecting a null hypothesis is that

when the objective of an experiment is to establish

a claim, the nullification of the claim should be

taken as the null hypothesis.
