Coronavirus
Some parents have been in touch because they are worried about the coronavirus. We would like to assure you that as a
school we are following all the information which the government and Public Health England send out. As a school we
receive a daily update from the Department for Education. Both the Department for Education and Public Health England
say that personal hygiene is the most important way we can tackle COVID-19, especially washing hands more; and the catch
it, bin it, kill it strategy for those with coughs and sneezes – also help in delaying the peak of the infection.
Please make sure that your child has their own water bottle so that they can drink freely throughout the day. We will of
course continue to provide cups at lunchtime and these are not shared during service.
We are teaching all the children to wash their hands thoroughly. Please reinforce this at home. We cannot allow children to
use alcohol sanitiser so please do not send this in. We have plenty of soap and water and this is advised for children to use.
Current advice remains in place: No school should close in response to a suspected (or confirmed) COVID-19 case unless
advised to do so by Public Health England.
If you require any more information or advice the Department for Education has launched a Coronavirus helpline to answer
questions about COVID-19 related to education. Parents/carers can contact the helpline as follows:
Phone: 0800 046 8687
Email: [email protected]
Opening hours: 8am to 6pm (Monday to Friday)
Next week, we will begin our series of exciting
Olympics workshop competitions to tie in with Sport
Relief and start to build anticipation for the Tokyo 2020
Olympic Games. Every class from Years 1 - 6 will get to
try 4 different Olympic events and compete against the
other classes in their year groups to see who will
become our Olympic champions! There might even be
some prizes up for grabs. Year 5 and Year 1 will do
theirs next week, Year 3 and 4 the following week and
in the final week of workshops, Year 2 and Year 6 will
get their turn. Stay tuned to find out who our
champions will be!
It was fantastic to see all the children dressed up as their favourite
characters for world book day! They all looked amazing and had fun
showing each other their costumes!

Picture News
In Picture News this week children found out that a
supercomputer is to be developed to support the Met
Office in a huge project to improve weather forecasting.
The new technology is to be funded by a £1.2 billion
investment from the government and will be managed
by the Met Office. It is expected the computer will be
the most powerful forecasting system in the world and
will be able to offer more precise weather and flood
updates.
Things to talk about at home…
Do you listen to or read about the weather
forecast?
Does knowing the weather forecast change any
of your daily activities?
Has there ever been any extreme weather near
where you live?
Announcement!
I am sure that most of you are familiar with Miss
Woolvin as she has been on the team here at
Pennyhill since it opened. We want to let you know
that Miss Woolvin will be leaving at the end of the
term. I know that you will want to join us in wishing
her well for the future.
