Theme for today’s worship: The Lord’s mercy endures forever. He continually sup-

plies what we need to carry out a life of righteousness. “Actions speak louder than words” is a

fitting way of thinking how people perceive Christians and the One they represent. “You your-

selves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody.” 2 Corinthians 3:2

Prayer before worship: Dear heavenly Father, say something. I will gladly remain

silent and be a child and learner. If I should rule the church with my own knowledge, wisdom, and understanding, I would have sunk long ago. Therefore, dear God, you guide and direct it.

I will gladly forsake my point of view and understanding and let you rule alone through your word. Amen. (Luther’s Prayers, p. 91,92)

Invocation

P: The grace of our Lord † Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you.

C: And also with you.

Confession of Sins

P: We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve him as his dear children. But we have disobeyed him and deserve only his wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy.

C: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child. But trust-ing in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.

P: God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and

innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, he has removed your guilt forever. You are his own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to his will.

C: Amen.

4

Prayer of the Day

P: Almighty God, in your bountiful goodness keep us safe from every evil of body and soul. Make us ready, with cheerful hearts, to do whatever pleases you; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C: Amen. Please be seated

We Hear God’s Word

First Lesson Isaiah 5:1-7

1 I will sing for the one I love a song about his vineyard: My loved

one had a vineyard on a fertile hillside. 2 He dug it up and cleared it of

stones and planted it with the choicest vines. He built a watchtower in it

and cut out a winepress as well. Then he looked for a crop of good

grapes, but it yielded only bad fruit. 3 “Now you dwellers in Jerusalem

and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. 4 What more

could have been done for my vineyard than I have done for it? When I

looked for good grapes, why did it yield only bad? 5 Now I will tell you

what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it

will be destroyed; I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled. 6 I

will make it a wasteland, neither pruned nor cultivated, and briers and

thorns will grow there. I will command the clouds not to rain on it.” 7

The vineyard of the LORD Almighty is the house of Israel, and the men

of Judah are the garden of his delight. And he looked for justice, but

saw bloodshed; for righteousness, but heard cries of distress.

5

Verse of the Day

P: Alleluia. I will proclaim your name to my people; in the midst of the congrega-tion I will praise you. Alleluia. (Hebrews 2:12 cf. RSV)

Please stand in respect for the gospel

Gospel Lesson Matthew 21:33-43

33 “Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a

vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a

watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and went

away on a journey. 34

When the harvest time approached, he sent his

servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.

35 “The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another,

and stoned a third. 36

Then he sent other servants to them, more than

the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way. 37

Last of all,

he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.

38 “But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This

is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’ 39

So they took

him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.

40 “Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he

do to those tenants?”

41 “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they replied,

“and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his

share of the crop at harvest time.”

42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The

stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done

this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?

43 “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away

from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.”

P: This is the gospel of the Lord. C: Praise be to you, O Christ.

Sermon Text Galatians 5:25-6:10

25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

26Let

us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

1Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual

should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempt-

ed. 2Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of

Christ. 3If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he de-

ceives himself. 4Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take

pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, 5for each

one should carry his own load.

6Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good

things with his instructor.

7Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he

sows. 8The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature

will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the

Spirit will reap eternal life. 9Let us not become weary in doing good, for

at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10

There-

fore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to

those who belong to the family of believers.

Nicene Creed

C: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Lord’s Prayer

C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

To help prepare for the Lord’s Supper, ask the following faith questions:

Do I believe that I am a sinner? (1 John 1:8)

Do I believe that I am forgiven? (1 John 1:9)

Do I believe that this is Jesus’ true body and true blood? (1 Corinthians 11:29)

Do I intend with the Holy Spirit’s help to live a new and holy life? (Romans 6:1,2)

We Receive the Sacrament

Our Communion Practice: Mount Calvary Lutheran Church observes the biblical practice of member communion (this has also been called close communion). If you are currently not a member of our congregation, we kindly ask that you speak with our pastor before communing. We look forward to talking about this very important issue with you!

Preface

P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them up to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is good and right so to do. P: It is truly good and right that we should at all times and in all places give you

thanks, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who promised that wherever two or three come together in his name, there he is with them to shepherd his flock till he comes again in glory. Therefore, with all the saints on earth and hosts of heaven, we praise your holy name and join their glorious song:

The Words of Institution

P: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body †, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood † of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it in remembrance of me.”

P: The peace of the Lord be with you always. C: Amen.
