THANK YOU!

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit, Replace the tension within us with a holy relaxation. Replace the turbulence within us with a sacred calm.

Replace the anxiety within us with a quiet confidence. Replace the fear within us with a strong faith.

Replace the bitterness within us with the sweetness of grace. Replace the darkness within us with a gentle light.

Replace the coldness within us with a loving warmth. Replace the night within us with your light.

Straighten our crookedness. Fill our emptiness.

Dull the edge of our pride. Sharpen the edge of our humility.

Light the fires of our love. Quench the flames of our lust.

Let us see ourselves as You see us, That we may see You as You have promised,

And be fortunate according to Your word:

“Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.” (Mt. 5:8)

Adoration Adoration will contin-ue Tuesdays through Saturdays from Noon

until 3 pm. Great graces can be re-ceived from this special time you spend before the Lord in the Holy Eucharist. Come any time during those hours, whether you can spend 5 minutes or any hour!

The Write Stuff Parish News Jesus is our Anchor, is He not? An anchor is the strong object that allows a boat to stay stable in water. Whenever a boat has to stay afloat in the stationary position on water, the anchor will keep the boat from drifting unnecessarily from its position because of the currents in the water. This means, that while we live and work and serve as local Christians of the Faith, Jesus is our stability. He has taught us how to live and love within our families, our local communities, and to love ourselves. But, Jesus also knew that in order for us to continue to grow—to spread our wings and take off in flight and in his physical absence—we needed more. We need-ed the Holy Spirit to be at the helm of our boat. So as Jesus says a temporary “goodbye” to his disciples and friends, what did this mean for them? He was pulling his anchor up and allowing their boat to set sail into deeper waters. The disciples were called to spread the Word to all places. And, they could do this without fear of Jesus no longer being physically present with them because of the Advo-cate Jesus sent. In those ten days between Jesus’ Ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit, the disciples were somewhat confused and uncertain. But their prayers continued and finally when the presence of the Holy Spirit was lit within each of them, they were inspired to sail to the ends of the earth to preach the Good News to everyone. They could no longer contain it within themselves or only among the people in their local community. May it be so with us. May we not fear the deep waters that come as we set sail. This can be done by continually calling upon the Holy Spirit to fill us, enliven us, and put us into action. No doubt, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought fear, anxiety and some tension among us. It was somewhat like an everlasting cloudy day. We have probably all witnessed or even experienced for ourselves depres-sion, self-seeking interests, rebellion, and negative attitudes. But through this darkened time, Jesus was our anchor. How would we have made it without Him? Those of us who called upon Him to bring stability to our lives when the waters around us were churning, endured the storm. Now that the cloud of darkness is lifting, the Holy Spirit will inspires us how to carry on and bring spiritual growth to each other. As you remember, our isolation began near the beginning of Lent, and continued through those 40 days and for another 40 days to Christ’s As-cension. But now, the Holy Spirit has been sent for us, to consider how we can each rise above the storm and set sail once again. Our waters are beginning to reach a calm. So forget about where we have been, but look to where we are going. Each of us has to decide how we are to proceed in a manner that is safe, (and that may be different for each one of us), but don’t let it ever stop us from growing in our faith. Have a wonderful summer!

—Mary Kauer, Lay Leader

Renovated Marian Shrine Our new outdoor Mary statue is being placed in our Shrine this weekend! We are pleased with how well the raising of the shrine arch went to accom-modate this larger statue. We hope that you will take the time over the summer months to pay a visit to the shrine when you can and pray a Rosary, Hail Mary or other pray-ers there. For the winter months, the smaller statue of Mary will be used in the shrine—to help avoid weathering of the new one. A big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed toward the new statue—and to our faithful Buildings & Grounds members, and Weise Ma-sonry for the work with the shrine!

Update on Father Den We are happy to hear how well Father Den is doing, and that he is expected to come home, perhaps within the week. I am sure he will be happy to hear from everyone. So, if you send cards now or call him, do so at his home:

The dark stripe running down its back and crossed by another at its shoulders was said to be be-stowed by Jesus, prophetic of the crucifixion, as an honorable badge for its part in redemption. •Sweet Talk: The story is told that when St. John Chrysostom was an infant, bees came to light on his lips, prophesying his sweet speech. The same story is told of Plato, Sophocles, Pindar, and St. Ambrose (whose symbol is a beehive). • St. Thomas the Builder: Legends of Thomas in India abound. In one, the King of the Indies, Gondoforus, gave a small fortune to Thomas to build a palace. Thomas turned around and spent it on the poor, thus “building a superb palace in heaven.” Hence he is called by some the patron of architects and masons, and his symbol is the builder’s square. In another leg-end, Thomas saw the king trying in vain to haul ashore a huge beam of timber. Even with men and elephants, he failed. So Thomas asked to have the beam, intend-ing to use it in building a church. His request being granted, he hauled the beam ashore with a string.
