PENTECOST SUNDAY May 15, 2016 FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR... PENTECOST “As the Father sent Me, so I am sending you” John 20:21Dear brothers and sisters, in today’s Gospel Lesson, it is the evening of the first Easter Sunday. The terrified Apostles are hiding behind closed doors. They fear for their lives. Jesus has been crucified. They wor- ry that they’ll be next; that Jesus’ enemies are coming. But their fear is misguided because Jesus is coming! “The doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews,” the Apostle John tells us. “Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them: ‘peace be with you...as the Father sent Me, so I am send- ing you...receive the Holy Spirit.” And “the disciples were filled with joy!” On this Day of Pentecost, Jesus comes to us. He is in our midst now, saying to each of us, “Peace be with you...as the Father sent Me, so I am sending you...receive the Holy Spirit.” And, hopefully, we who struggle from day-to-day with our fears and anxieties, are filled with joy. What happened to the New Testament Christians was that when Jesus came into their midst they experienced God’s Presence in a new and intense way—-so over- whelming, so fulfilling, so healing, they couldn’t con- tain it within themselves. They had to get the Good News out to the whole world. John the evangelist tells us that Jesus last words to His disciples included this instruction: As the Father sent Me, so I am sending you. As the Father sent Jesus, so He is sending us now. Our world is full of misery and fear and ignorance. Our plain Christian duty is to do all we can to make the little corner of our influence less miserable and fearful and ignorant than it was before we came into it. Our duty to live for our own happiness of all. Our happiness is do- ing God’s will. The Spirit of the Lord is in you! Go and preach the Good News. Father Miguel Ceja YOUTH GROUP will not meet this Thursday, May 19th due to the Adult Confirmations. See you all next week! Thank you to everyone who sup- ported the Mother’s Day Rose Sale. Proceeds go to Riverside Life Ser- vices to help with Pro-Life efforts. A special thank you to the Coco Islas and the members of the youth group who helped to sell the roses after Masses. They always do a terrific job and we are grateful for their help and support of Pro-Life. From Geneva Wilson: Thank you to everyone for your prayers, cards, mass in- tentions during surgery and recovery. May God bless you all for your thoughtfulness. I feel blessed to be sur- rounded by a great parish family. U.S. Citizenship classes begin at St. Catherine’s on May 13. In conjunction with Catholic Charities, the 5 -session class takes place on Fridays, May 13 from 7pm to 9pm in St. Catherine’s Min- istry Center, 7005 Brockton Ave in River- side. FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR...

PENTECOST “As the Father sent Me, so I am sending you”

John 20:21Dear brothers and sisters, in today’s Gospel Lesson, it is the evening of the first Easter Sunday. The terrified Apostles are hiding behind closed doors. They fear for their lives. Jesus has been crucified. They wor-ry that they’ll be next; that Jesus’ enemies are coming. But their fear is misguided because Jesus is coming!

“The doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews,” the Apostle John tells us. “Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them: ‘peace be with you...as the Father sent Me, so I am send-ing you...receive the Holy Spirit.” And “the disciples were filled with joy!”

On this Day of Pentecost, Jesus comes to us. He is in our midst now, saying to each of us, “Peace be with you...as the Father sent Me, so I am sending you...receive the Holy Spirit.” And, hopefully, we who struggle from day-to-day with our fears and anxieties, are filled with joy.

What happened to the New Testament Christians was that when Jesus came into their midst they experienced God’s Presence in a new and intense way—-so over-whelming, so fulfilling, so healing, they couldn’t con-tain it within themselves. They had to get the Good News out to the whole world.

John the evangelist tells us that Jesus last words to His disciples included this instruction:

As the Father sent Me, so I am sending you.

Our happiness is do-ing God’s will.

The Spirit of the Lord is in you! Go and preach the Good News.

DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PARROCO…

PENTECOSTES
