Qualification of Nominees • Has been a member of the Council through

employment/ownership in a member company during his/her career.

• Have a record of activity in committee, task groups or have been elected or appointed to the Board of Directors.

• Preference will be given to those members who are nearing the end of their career or have re-tired.

Documentation Attach a typed detailed description highlighting: • The candidate’s dedication to the advancing the

objectives of the Ontario Asphalt Pavement Council.

• Evidence of their notable service to the Council. • Documentation of the qualification of the nomi-

nee (see above).

The Honorary Life Membership Award recognizes Members for their dedication to advancing the objectives of the Ontario Asphalt Pavement Council and who have performed notable service to the Council.

Qualification of Nominees • Be a full member in good standing with OAPC. • Have undertaken their activities for OAPC on a

voluntary basis and not for remuneration. • Have provided a minimum of four years volun-

teer activities at the committee or board level prior to the date on the submission.

Evaluation Criteria: The Awards committee will be looking for nomi-nations of a member who has gone well beyond the normal levels of voluntary support to OAPC. Sponsors submitting a nomination must provide a detailed history of the candidate’s contribution to the Association and illustrate why their service is exceptional. The contribution of the candidate must have supported OAPC’s mission statement. The King Beamish Excellence Award recognizes an OAPC member who has made an exemplary voluntary contribution to the works of the Council over a period of time and has demonstrated qualities that exem-plify leadership, motivation and inspiration related to participation in the Council.

Earl Kee Volunteer of the Year Award OAPC Awards Program

Joe Bunting Mentorship Award OAPC Awards Program

Qualification of Nominees Candidates must: • Be a full member in good standing with OAPC. • Or have retired from the HMA industry, but

had been employed by an OAPC member company at one point in their career.

Documentation Attach a typed detailed description highlighting the candidate’s volunteer work with OAPC. The Awards committee will be looking for nomina-tions of an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to mentoring activities either within their workplace or in the Council. Special Note OAPC encourages member companies to distribute the Joe Bunting Mentorship Award nomination form to all staff.

The Joe Bunting Mentorship Award was established to recognize the importance of mentorship to our community. To quote Joe from an article in ASPHALTopics, “You learn fairly early on in your career that your success depends on the success of others and I have always valued the opportunity to hire young people, to be their mentor and share in their achievements.” This award not only honours Joe but turns a spotlight on those people in our industry that take the time to teach, inspire and encourage tomorrow’s leaders of our industry.

for Innovation OAPC Awards Program

Qualification of Nominees Candidates must: • Be actively involved in the asphalt industry in

North America with direct benefit for the asphalt industry in Ontario.

• The candidate does not have to be a member of the Council.

Evaluation Criteria: • The Awards committee will be looking for

nominations of an individual that recognizes his/her innovation and/or research achieve-ments, whether for a singular achievement or derived from a body of work.

• Innovations should go far beyond marginal im-provements in existing products and services.

Documentation Attach a typed detailed description highlighting the candidate’s individual innovative achievement or his/her body of work as evidence of achieve-ment.

The Dr. Norman McLeod Award for Innovation was named in honour of Dr. Norman McLeod, Canada’s most accomplished asphalt innovator. The purpose of the award is to highlight the innovative work of those involved in the Hot Mix Asphalt industry.

The “Bleeds Black” Award OAPC Awards Program

Qualification of Nominees • Candidates must be actively involved in the

asphalt industry in North America with direct benefit for the asphalt industry in Ontario.

• The candidate does not have to be a member of the Association.

highlighting the candidate’s passion and commitment to the superiority of asphalt as the pavement of choice in Ontario.

The Awards Committee is looking for the one per-son out of forty, who is not merely interested, but passionate about the Ontario Asphalt Pavement Council. That person who stands out above the rest.

The purpose of the “Bleeds Black” Award is to highlight the passion and commitment of individuals to the superiority of asphalt as the pavement of choice in Ontario. The Council credits the words of Tim Fawcett, past OHMPA director, who said when describing an individual “whose passion and commitment for all things asphalt is so great that when cut, they bleed black.”– March 6, 2013 Annual General Meeting.

Who Can Nominate? Candidates may be nominated in one of the following three ways:

• A minimum of five sponsors, two of which must be from outside the chief nominator’s company and one of whom will act as the contact person. Sponsors must be full members in good standing with OAPC. Sponsors may not nominate more than one candidate annually per award.

• A committee of OAPC with one member identified as the contact person.

• Individual members of the OAPC Board of Directors.

• When submitting nomination please provide supporting documentation.

• Awards are presented annually at the Fall Asphalt Seminar and the Ontario Road Builders’ Association Conference and AGM, unless no nominations are received or if the Awards committee deems the submission to have not met the outlined criteria.
