Globally, PepsiCo has six divisions:

Let us find out how it all began. PepsiCo entered the Indian market in 1989 as a joint venture between PepsiCo Inc., Voltas and PAIC.

The initial journey, like any other entry, was challenging. PepsiCo needed to adjust to a set of governmental rules and policies to take the business forward.

Some of these challenges included:

Providing a turnover of 50% from exports

Manufacturing 80% of these exports at the India Centre

Lets try to understand the Indian market in a little more detail. This will help us better understand the structure and functioning of PepsiCo India.

India is a multicultural country with multiple ethnicities often termed as several countries within a country.

To manage and grow sales in such a diverse market is a challenge in itself. Therefore, to ease operations and maximise revenue the PepsiCo India region is divided into six units: North Snacks, East Snacks, Gujrat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh or GMRC, Maharashtra and Goa or M&G, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana & Karnataka or APTK and Tamil Nadu and Kerala or TNK.

Each unit is headed by a designated person with a customised brand portfolio and specific targets to achieve. In addition, the units also plan and work on their own marketing campaigns.
