Rubbish Free Lunches

We are all so proud of 3BH for their work on rubbish freelunches. Just this one class is making such an impact on ourawareness of how much plastic we are using just in lunchboxes. Last Monday we had our Nude Food Picnic on the ovaland hoped every family would try just for this one day to make alunch that was completely nude. It was great to see such emptyrubbish bins at the end of the day!

This term Mondays and Tuesdays will be nude food days andall participating children will have the chance to enter into acompetition with the winners being announced at our lastAssembly in Week 9.

World Teachers’ Day

I said on Assembly last week that I’m unaware of whyQueensland celebrates World Teachers’ Day on the last Fridayof October and not on 5 October like the rest of the worldbut on any day of the week our teachers are simply the bestteachers I’ve ever seen both individually and as a team. We aresuch a lucky community to have so many gifted and passionateteachers working together to provide a world class educationright here in Peregian Springs. I hope parents have theopportunity to show gratitude for the amazing work ourteachers do every day on Friday 27 October 2017.

The future is coming thick and fast

Here is a link to a Padlet developed by 2W that showcasesall the ways children at Peregian Springs are learning aboutcoding, robotics and an automated lifestyle. It might give yousome additional information that you didn’t know about the‘robots’ in our school.

The not-so-far-away future is going to be an exciting place!

Congratulations to Harry Wright

Harry has been chosen to be a Batonbearerfor the Gold Coast 2018 CommonwealthGames. We’re not sure yet which leg he willrun but many of us hope to be present tosee him proudly carry the baton on its wayto the opening ceremony of the 21stCommonwealth Games.

Information from parents for class placementsfor 2018

Determining class lists is a complex process that requirescareful consideration of a range of information. The aspectswe consider are friendship groups, gender, academic ability, behavioural and social needs, and child-teacher relationships.Parent requests are a final piece of information we consider anare not guaranteed.

You are invited to provide any information that you would likeconsidered in deciding the most appropriate placement for yourchild. Please note: we do not accept requests for particularteachers. Please complete one form for each child and returnby Friday 27 October 2017.

Only complete this form if you have information you’d like usto know. If we don’t hear from you, teachers will use all theyknow about your child’s learning and friendship groups to makea decision.

This year the form is only available through this electronic link.

Uniforms

The end of the year is nigh and we still want our students to looktheir best. We ask all parents to check their children’s uniformsand in particular, shoes, to ensure they are suitable for schooland in line with our Dress Code. When children look and feeltheir best they tend to do their best. Scruffy clothes and shoesdon’t help this.

Many children are not in black shoes and I am constantly askedby other parents, ‘why not’. We ask all families to abide byour Dress Code to ensure the whole school looks it’s best andremains a place to be proud to attend.

Uniforms for 2018

Ensure you order early so that our Uniform Shop Convenorscan order enough stock for everyone.

Technology Audit 2017

Each year the school completes a Technology Audit bysurveying Year 5 and 6 students.

This survey helps the school gain an understanding of changesand patterns in the use of technology each year.

Some of the findings from the 2017 Tech Audit:

The biggest change that the school has seen over the 6 yearsurvey period is with students feeling safe online. In 2012,37% said they felt unsafe online. This number has consistentlydeclined to now 9% from the survey saying they feel unsafe.

I spoke to a number of students around why they do not feelunsafe online and have dot pointed a few of the reasons:

Most students reported that they could use the year 5 and 6online reporting method found via the link below if needed.

https://psss.concern.net.au

Many of these strategies come from the strong eSmart programthat is delivered across the school starting from Prep.

At the beginning of the year the school had Brett Lee, a formerOnline Detective, complete a Cyber Safety workshop forparents and staff. His top 5 key messages for parents workingwith their kids around technology were:
