As I see it...

This empty space is about leaving

spring. The tank is almost empty. It is

time to refill and refresh our creativity.

As we shift gears during this transition

period, it is also time to recognize the

players in our creative life. One major

player is The Tubac Center for the Arts.

Thank you to all those who contributed

to the success of the exhibitions, to the

entertainment, and to the educational

opportunities. We also need to release

some disappointments and even mental

and physical fatigue. Enjoy the quiet

space and allow curiosity and awe to

fill your imagination. Wishing everyone

a memorable summer.

With the Hi-Art exhibit closing our current season it is with bittersweet feelings that we are approaching the

last weeks of the TCA 2013-2014 Exhibit and Performance season, and a great year it was! Allow me to take a moment to reflect on some of the highlights. How about the

compelling story told in dance and dialogue from the Performing Arts Series as well as some great musical memories. New marks were set not only in types of media presented; fiber, clay, glass, paper, paint, charcoal and lead, but also in exceptional quality seen in the members shows, Arizona Aqueous, and the now legendary Mountain Oyster Club collection of Western Art. We are drawing artists work from many corners of the country topped with juried pieces from 27 states for the “From The Earth” exhibit. Thanks to all who were instrumental in making this happen through your generous donations of time and money.

We intend to continue to raise the bar for the 2014-2015 Season and are excited to be bringing to you our “Woven Nation” exhibit next October and November. This exhibit comes from the remarkable and historic private collection of Navajo blankets, rugs and saddle blankets of Steve Getzwiller and represents some of the absolute best of this extraordinary American art form. Certainly a fitting sequel to “Best of the West”. And to top it off, this show is a double feature with a companion exhibit “Under the Desert Stars” showcasing some of the works and memorabilia of Maynard Dixon (1875-1946) from the private collection of Mark Sublette’s Medicine Man Gallery in Tucson. Maynard Dixon is one of the West’s most revered artists and this comprehensive collection will WOW you.

In the spring of 2015, March and April to be exact, we are mounting an open media exhibit “Árte de Avian” and as the name implies, its focus is birds. As Arizona and especially our particular locale are one of the premier areas in the country for bird watching with not only resident species but numerous migration routes, we expect this exhibit to create a lot of interest and enthusiasm. We have high hopes and anticipation that the creative wings of participating artists will take us all to new heights as the closing exhibit of 2015.

The 2014-2015 members exhibits, Arizona Aqueous, Hi-Art and Open Studio Tours and Summer Gallery all combine to promise an exciting year and the Performing Art Series is loaded with talent.

Your continued support is absolutely critical to our success. Thank you!

Business & Artist Members News

JUDY MORRIS, juror of Arizona Aqueous, commented about her experience here at TCA. She travels throughout the world giving workshops, serves as a juror and is a name well recognized in the art world.

“Tubac Center for the Arts deserves to be very proud of their exceptional contribution to the art world. My first visit in February 2014 proved to be an A+ experience. I was impressed with their physical facilities at first glance. The Center blends beautifully with the cultural charm of the village and of the surrounding environment. Community involvement rates just as high! I witnessed active participation from small children to senior citizens. I was most impressed with the quality of classes offered. My personal teaching experience has taken me throughout the USA, to Europe, Mexico, Canada, and Japan for the last 25 years. My experience teaching at the Tubac Center was among the best.

The Tubac Center for the Arts offers art experiences that can be summed up with two words... Class Act!”

People are Talking

A random tourist who wants to be anonymous, comments about the Art Center. Myrna York asked these questions: What were your expectations of the Tubac Center for the Arts before you walked in the door? What was your impression after your visit?

Tubac is a special place filled with inspiration and amazing local talent. I think a misconception of the town is that ‘local artists’ means Southwest genre. Southwest art is a big part of the region but the Tubac Center for

the Arts showcases much more than that. With the variety of pieces on display it changed my perspective that Tubac ignites your personal creativity and granted me permission to be inspired in my mediums of choice. The Center has a good balance of established artists to the raw talent of students who are growing up in the area. A great venue to not only cool off from the heat but to learn more about all the talent that comes through Tubac and celebrates this special place that attracts all walks of life.
