PERFUMES AND OILS IN BIBLE TIMES
FOR GOD/ THE LORD/ KINGS:
Exodus 30:23-37 * "Take the following fine spices... liquid myrrh… fragrant cinnamon…
fragrant cane… cassia-- and a hin of olive oil. Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a
fragrant blend, and the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil [for Aaron
and his sons/ priest]. Then use it [also] to anoint the Tent of Meeting, the ark of the
Testimony… Whoever makes perfume like it and whoever puts it on anyone other than a
priest must be cut off from his people.'"….Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take fragrant
spices-- gum resin, onycha and galbanum-- and pure frankincense… and make a
fragrant blend of incense, the work of a perfumer. It is to be salted and pure and sacred.
Grind some of it to powder and place it in front of the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting,
where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you. Do not make any incense with
this formula for yourselves; consider it holy to the LORD”. *The perfumes and oils
created by Beit Avraham are not the same as mentioned in this passage.
John 12:1-8 “Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany… Then they
made a supper there for Him. And Martha served….
Then [her sister] Mary took a pound of ointment of
pure spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet
of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled
with the odour of the ointment…” .
Daniel 2:46 “Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell prostrate before Daniel
and paid him honour and ordered that an offering and incense be
presented to him”.

perfumes and oils that were hand produced. They contained
materials which were used in Biblical times, made according to the
tradition of the late Second Temple Period.
