September 12-13, 2015 SALAMANDER SPRINGS FARM Clear Creek, south of Berea, KY Solar powered homestead built from scratch Market/CSA farm - organic veggies, grains & dry beans, nuts, fruits, flowers & herbs, medicinals Learn to practice permaculture & cycle local resources, energy & nutrients! Create fertile, living soil without mechanized tillage, establish perennial and no-till staple crops, ponds, rainwater catchment, grey water & spring water systems. Experience off-grid living, passive solar design, earthen floors, solar electricity, building with salvage & local lumber, clay & straw… Saturday 9 a.m. to Sunday 4 p.m. includes 4 local vegetarian meals, tent camping on the farm, solar shower, compost toilet, spring water, cold tub & waterfall! Salamander Springs Farm offers affordable permaculture skills training with annual workshops limited to 12 people for hands-on, participatory learning. Practicums incorporate the interests of participants and include detailed handouts based on years of practice. Featured in the 2015 permaculture documentary film, “INHABIT,” Susana Lein built Salamander Springs Farm from scratch on a depleted Appalachian ridge south of Berea, KY. Lein has practiced permaculture and natural building for over 25 years, and has taught for organizations in 9 states and 4 countries. She received her design certificate from Max Lindegger, founder & designer of Crystal Waters Permaculture Village in Australia and worked 8 years with small farmers in Latin America. In addition to workshops and monthly farm tours, Salamander Springs Farm offers farm apprenticeships for a living immersion in permaculture practice.
