1. Introduction
This report summarizes the findings of the Structural Engineer’s study of the feasibility of temporarily installing an earthquake shake table in Pershing Square. It has been determined that the existing structural system has the capacity to support the proposed earthquake shake table installation.
Analysis of the existing structural slab was undertaken in accordance with the provisions set forth in ACI 318-05, chapter 13. If placed within the location set forth in the attached site plan, the existing structure will be sufficient to support the additional load associated with the earthquake shake table.

3. Summary of Findings
The existing two‐way slab was analyzed in accordance with ACI 318 Section 13. The total static moment was distributed positive and negative factored moments as well as between column and middle strips in accordance with section 13.6. Because the permitted shake table footprint affects only the X‐column strip (E‐W direction) and the Y‐middle strip (N‐S direction), only these design strips were deemed crucial to evaluating the feasibility of the installation.

It can be seen that while the positive moment demand in the X‐column strip exceeds the capacity, there is sufficient reserve capacity to redistribute the remaining moment, as permitted by ACI 318 Section 13.6
