Statistics

An average of 12 Sailors/Marines will accidently shoot themselves or others this year.

Of that 12, 2 will die and 1 will be permanently disabled.

Handling Weapons

Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.

Never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot.

Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you intend to fire.

Keep your weapon on safe until you are ready to fire.

Only handle weapons when you are sober and never engage in horseplay with a weapon.

Storage

Firearms should be unloaded

when being stored or not in use.

Store your weapons and ammunition in a safe location to prevent children/mentally impaired from gaining access to your weapons.

Use

Don’t alter or modify your gun. Have it serviced by a professional and clean it regularly.

Ensure the barrel is clear of obstructions before shooting.

Be sure of your target and what is behind it. Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the

firearm you are using.
