PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION

ABOUT US

In February 1984, Personality Development Association (PDA) was

started by the efforts of Shri K.V. Narayanan along with 5 students. From its

modest beginning the, PDA thrives for the overall personality development of the

students in MIT to make them better and more refined. The activities and the

programs undertaken by PDA aims at the holistic development of the individual.

MOTTO:

The main motto of the organization is “Discover Thyself”. PDA brings

out the hidden talents of many students and screens their potential through various

events and tests which gives them an indelible experience to discover themselves.

MOCK INTERVIEW

Held on: 28.07.2020

Venue: Abdul Kalam Lecture Hall Complex (AK LHC)

No. of students participated: 21

The Event consisted of two rounds which were Group Discussion and

Personal Interview. The candidates were asked to wait before the group

discussion began to test their patience. A set of 6-8 students were asked to take

part in a group discussion about general topics related to the current affairs like

chandrayaan-2, ICC cricket world cup final controversy, etc.

The group discussion was followed by the personal interview for each candidate.

The interviews were conducted by passed out seniors from MIT who are currently

working in prestigious companies.

The students were divided into two categories namely ELEX/ALGO and MECH

according to their departments and the interview was conducted by the respective

seniors from their streams. A handful of students participated from both

categories

Thus the PDA MIT made its best effort to prepare students for what possibly

might be one of the most important days in their life

PDA LIBRARY

MIT HOSTEL LIBRARY

The MIT hostel PDA Library has more than 3000 books of all genres – fiction,

nonfiction and academic books in both English and Tamil languages. It also has

more than 20 magazines and newspapers. In the academic year 2019 -2020, PDA

library has been functioned and maintained in a well-planned order. The library

is kept open in all the 240 working days from July 2019 to March 2020 for the

utilisation of hostel students and about 500 books were issued and returned during

this year.

MARUTHAM LIBRARY

For the academic year 2019 – 2020, our library was very active with the

regular presence of students from 2nd year and 3rd year of Bachelor’s degree and

the 1st year of Master’s degree programme. A total of around 250 students used

the library regularly for about 240 days from July 2019 to March 2020. More than

15 students donated their books for the library and around 50 students utilized the

library books every month. The library always had regular newsreaders who

enthusiastically showed up early during everyday morning. Volunteers always

kept the students energetic with everyday Thirukural written on the whiteboard

outside the library.

Marutham Hostel PDA Library

BOOK BANK

PDA library is offering its hands to the students in need through this book

bank scheme. Through this scheme set of 6 books are given to the selected first

year students for the whole semester which would be of great strength for their

academic performance. For the academic year 2019-2020, 45 students were

benefitted by this scheme.

WEEKLY SESSION

Weekly sessions functions in the motive to improve the mental ability and

personality of the students. It conducts three sessions namely Aptitude, Civil

Service and Communication. Besides Online Aptitude tests were conducted on

some weeks.

Aptitude session focused on improving the mental ability and problem solving

skills. Students were given question papers containing aptitude questions to learn,

solve and had the freedom to discuss their doubts.

Civil Service session handled different topics that were not only important for

clearing UPSC Examination but also helped students to be updated on current

issues and enhanced thinking skills by having an interactive session.

Communication session helped to enhance the speaking and language skills,

spontaneity, body language and tried cultivating a good attitude in students.

Besides this to test the aptitude and logical ability of students and aptitude test

had been conducted in online. This has made students to participate regardless of

their place and time throughout a day.

INAUGUARATION OF PERSOFEST 19-20

Inauguration of Persofest 19-20 conducted by the Personality Development

Association was held on 12th of September, 2019 at 04:30pm in Rajam Lecture

Hall Complex. The function commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the

dignitaries- Professor T.Thyagarajan, the honourable Dean of MIT,

Dr.P.Pabitha,the respected staff advisor of PDA, Mr.Balaji Murugadoss,

Mr.International India 2018 and the honourable Chief guest of the Inauguration,

Miss. J.Kavya, Chairperson of PDA, Mr.G. Mahesh Karrupusamy, Vice

Chairperson of PDA.

Dr.P.Pabitha,the respected staff advisor of PDA invited the dignitaries on the

stage and the people who showed their presence on the gracious event by giving

the Welcome address. Miss. J.Kavya, Chairperson of PDA, explained briefly the

Activities of PDA 2019-2020 that serves the fellow students and keeps the

association alive.

Professor T.Thyagarajan, the honourable Dean of MIT delivered the Presidential

Address giving support and encouragement to the occasion. Introduction to Chief

guest was given by Miss. A.Madhumitha, General Secretary of PDA explaining

about the lifestory and achievements of the Chief Guest.

Mr.Balaji Murugadoss, Mr.International India 2018 and a person who carries

many achievements gave a motivating talk to the crowd in the Inaugural address.

Mr.G. Mahesh Karrupusamy, Vice Chairperson of PDA ended the ceremony with

a Vote of Thanks thanking the dignitaries and the audience for their love and

patience followed by the National Anthem.

PERSOFEST TITLE EVENT

Mr & Ms. PERSOFEST’20

The Mega event of Mr & Ms Persofest is conducted every year by the

Personality Development Association to crown the Mr & Ms Persofest of that

academic year. It stands out from other events of the association where the

multiple skills of the students are monitored and assessed throughout.

Persofest’20 came across a bunch of talents who were determined to grab the

crown and sailed through the ten different stages of skill tests. Students from

Second and Third year actively participated to win the most prestigious title

event of MIT.

The first round of the event started on 16th of September and nearly 100 students

participated. The event successfully came to an end on 13th of October. It was a

real roller coaster ride for both the participants and the coordinators.

PERSOFEST 19-20 ROLLING EVENTS

Persofest rolling events are part of grand event Persofest 19-20 conducted

by PDA. It is a two-day non-technical fest in which students interest in all areas

are met. Various competitions and events of all types comprising art events,

crafts, writing events, oratory events, social events are conducted to discover

students talents and recognising them.

Glimpses of the Persofest rolling events

SEMINAR ON POWER OF HABITS

Personality Development Association coordinated a seminar presented by

Abishek Mantha, alumnus of IIT Madras on Power of Habits. It was held for the

first-year students. The session emphasized on cultivation of habits to

strengthen the personality.

SEMINAR ON OVERSEAS EDUCATION

Personality Development Association in collaboration with Global campus

connect has conducted seminar on ‘Awareness of overseas education’ to create an

insight to the students who are trying to pursue their career in the universities

abroad. The event is conducted with an aim of providing the platform for those

students by which they will be able to get as many information as possible and get

cleared of all the doubts.

SKETCHATHON

Sketchathon is a sketch contest conducted annually by the Personality

Development Association. This event helps the students showcase their artistic

and creative talents through paints and artworks. The top five of the contestants

will be awarded cash prizes.

About 25 contestants participated this year (2019- 2020) and were

selected based on their talents to get into further rounds. The total rounds to be

qualified are 5 rounds.

CAMPAIGNING

A step to develop students interacting and conversation skills, ability to

convey what needs to be said, the art of tackling counter arguments with enhanced

patience and listening skills. Through Campaigning, we make these possible.

Campaigning is the part of Persofest 19 -20 in which students actively participate

to project their views and ideas.

A Magazine containing the works of various fields collected from the students

is released every year. This year PDA has completed such magazine named

“Persoplus’20’” with writings in English and Tamil, Art works, photographs

thus giving exhibiting the talents and hobbies of the students.
