Goal-directed Instructional Design Plan - Persuasive Writing

A problem or a need The educational need is to provide the students the ability tocreate an organized persuasive argument to convince the audience to take action.

2. A real-world performance Students raised $300 during their mini-society economicprogram. Students will have the opportunity to convince the class the best way to spend the

money that will benefit the school.

2. An instructional objective the objectives are based on the final outcome, activity ortest. These objectives will each be different for the four types of knowledge;performing

skills, recalling facts, identifying examples of concepts, and applying principles.a. Objective - Students will identify the purpose of persuasive writing.

b. Objective - Students will create a persuasive map (graphic organizer) to convince

the class to take action on their opinion.

c. Objective - Students will be able to provide reasons that are supported by facts and

details.

d. Objective- Students will use digital media to persuade audience.

3) Teacher will introduce the idea of a persuasive argument. Information will be provided onPersuasive Writing through Power point http://writing.pppst.com /persuasive.html

4) Students can use the tutorial as a guide while forming their argument. This can be found in

5)Students will work collaboratively in groups to come up with an persuasive argument on thebest way to spend $300 earned from mini-society for the school. They will use search engines,

located on the Livebinder , to find facts and details to support their argument.

6) Once the students have gathered information, students will use a the graphic organizer in

the Livebinder, orhttp://www .readwritethink .org/files /resources /interactives /persuasion_map/ to map out the

idea.

7) The persuasion map will then be shared with the teacher for feedback.

8) Students will create a project using digital media to show their persuasive argument as

well as supportive facts and details. Students may use iMovie, Voicethread, Voki, Glogster,fotoflexer, or other social media tools that are located in the Livebinder that have beenpreviously taught in class.

9)Students will post visual media on class blog for feedback from the class.

Motivation:

Meaningfulness Students will have the opportunity to convince the class the best

way to spend the money that they have earned through mini- society. They

worked hard to earn the money. Pleasant consequences Students have a voice to express/convince their

opinion to the class. Students also have the opportunity to be creative through the

use of a visual to display the idea. Novelty -The use of the videos, will be used to draw them in on the concept of

persuading an audience.

Socialization - Students have the opportunity to share their idea to a larger audience

through the class blog. Students will be working in groups . Their goal is to convince therest of the class the best way to spend the money. They will also have the opportunity to

share their idea collaboratively and creatively to the class through a variety of digital

media tools.

Audience For what audience are you designing this lesson? Consider the following: Age- Fourth Grade

Skill level - Students must be familiar with technology and the use of search

engines. Students must also able to generate ideas with supportive facts and

details. Prerequisite knowledge (including technology background) Students will be familiar

with using appropriate search engines, as well as connecting to Livebinders for thislesson. Students must also be familiar with at least one of the technology tools

such as Animoto, Glogster, Voki, Fotoflexer, Voicethread, or iMovie to create a

visual aid. Students will be famiiar with using graphic organizers.

Technology Needs Students will need access to computers, printer, as well as the listof links for the persuasive writing that are located in aLivebinder. Students will also need

access to flip cameras and digital cameras for the visual aid if needed. Students must alsobe familiar with at least one of the technology tools such as Animoto, Glogster, Voki,

Fotoflexer, Voicethread, or iMovie.
