Music and Movement

• Movement: This dance is coquettish and cunning, yet the couple never touches. The dancers are very graceful and stomp their feet in time with the music. The couple holds a handkerchief in their right hand and the woman holds her skirt with the other. It is a chance for Peruvians to demonstrate their dancing abilities and show off a little.

• Music: Upbeat and a little fast, played usually by a marching band with drums and trumpets. There is no singing.

Music & MovementMovement:The groups of dancers perform turns and hops, also sort of skipping. They

keep time by tapping their feet and clapping their hands.

Music: Upbeat and happy. They generally use traditional instruments, but sometimes

they are replaced by a marching band with accordions.

Instruments:Quena, A traditional Andean flute.

Charango, small stringed instrument similar to the lute.

• Loin clothes made from jungle fibers and adorned with bones, seeds and feathers.

• Jewelry made from natural resources

• Crowns

Movement:

• Dancers don’t touch as they perform.

• The dance expresses happiness.

Peruvians in AmericaIn America the Peruvian culture has not been oppressed at all. They don’t have a large history here though, and there aren't many chances for them to have their huge festivals or dance competitions, But they still love their country and listen to their music, eat their food and dance when they have the opportunity. One thing that has changed though is they don’t dress as traditionally as they have in Peru.These people are free to basically do as they please in America and there are many chances to experience their culture by attending the independence day festival on July 28,visiting their restaurants or the homes of its people. The Peruvians love to invite people in and share what they love.
