WHY MICRO-CHIPPING YOUR PET IS SO IMPORTANT

The American Humane Society esti-mates that over 10 million dogs and cats are lost or stolen in the US every year

1 in 3 pets will become lost during their life

Losing your beloved pet can be a heartbreaking experience, espe-cially if the pet is never found and you never have closure on what became of your pet.

Because of the invention of the micro-chip, which is the size of a grain of rice, there have been many happy reunions of pets who have been missing for months, or even years, with their owners.

Of course not every story has a happy ending, but for a small fee- usually around $50 or so—check with your vet- this simple procedure can be performed at the vet’s office with no anesthesia. The micro-chip is inserted between the shoulder blades of the animal. As the owner you are required to register with the company’s database. Of course, if you relocate, you must notify the company of your address change.

Most veterinarians encourage micro-chipping your pets and most animal shelters have the equipment to read a microchip.

Allamuchy TNR Agreement

Did you know that PAL has a TNR

agreement with Allamuchy Township? PAL

has taken hundreds of cats out of the stray

cat population in Allamuchy. We have been extremely

successful in finding homes for the majority of these

strays with only a small percentage being released back

where they were found spayed/neutered to control the

population!

BE A “PAL FOR LIFE” …..

This is a program designed to help animals that have been waiting for a long time for their new home … we will

provide you with a coupon booklet upon request and you can make a donation when you like for whatever amount you like—no strings attached and all donations are tax deductible! You will

receive a year end thank you letter for your taxes.

Visit our website to see our full list of animals that are available for adoption—everyone wants a kitten, but many one year old cats are deemed “too old”, or perhaps the cat has “teary eyes” - everyone wants perfection, but all pets give unconditional love—they don’t

care what YOU look like.

Visit our website for more information on becoming a “PAL for Life(r)” at www.palpets.org, call 973-584-0095, or email us at

[email protected] — it’s as easy as that !!

FOSTER HOMES NEEDED

Kitten season is upon us and we are in need of

homes for momma cats and their kittens—

sometimes the kittens have been abandoned and

are alone when we find them. Being in a foster

home is very helpful to some of our shyer cats, it

helps prepare them for being in their new home.

We cannot take in more cats if our foster homes are full.

We supply all food and medical care to our animals in foster care.

We also support our foster families with all the advice and training

they may need to be sure their foster dog or cat makes a smooth

transition into their family.

If you or someone you know is in a position to foster any of our

PAL animals, please contact us at (973)584-0095 or email us at

[email protected] for more information on any of animals and a PAL

volunteer will contact you.

Declawing

Declawing a cat in New Jersey soon could land you in jail. Legislation that would prohibit the surgical removal of the claws of cats passed the state Senate Economic Growth Committee by a vote of 3-2 on May 31, 2018. The bill is pend-ing Senate Budget and Appropriation Committee review for further consideration.

The Humane Society of the United States opposes declawing except when medically necessary, saying that "declawing traditionally involves the amputation of the last bone of each toe. If performed on a human being, it would be like cutting off each finger at the last knuckle."

Declawing is often used to solve unwanted scratching issues but there are things you can do to naturally deter your cat from scratching:

Keep their claws trimmed to minimize damage to household items

Provide stable scratching posts and boards around your home. Offer different materi-als like carpet, sisal, wood and cardboard, as well as different styles (vertical and horizontal). Use toys and catnip to entice your cat to use the posts and boards.

As your veterinarian about soft plastic caps (like Soft Paws ) that are glued to the cat’s nails. They need to be replaced about every six weeks.

Attach a special tape to furniture to deter your cat from unwanted scratching.

COST OF CARING ….

2018 has seen a sharp increase in the number of cats, pregnant cats, orphaned kittens that PAL has taken in. On average, it costs $ 200.00 per cat/kitten for their first round of shots, spay/neuter, provided they have no other medical issues. We provide foster homes with all the food, litter they need until they are adopted or go to one of our two adop-tion centers. Our adoption fee for a cat/kitten is $125, which does not cover that much, especially if a cat or kitten needs extra veterinary care.

We pride ourselves on adopting out healthy dogs and cats and go the extra step to ensure that they go to their new homes as healthy as they can be.

Every dollar raised through our fundraisers, given through our “PAL for Life” program goes towards the care of the animals waiting for their homes.

These are so many thousands of cats and dogs put to sleep each day, please spread the word to spay and neuter. We try to help as many as we can, but we can’t do it alone, we need your help to continue what we do.

Help us find forever homes for the Holidays for these sweet

cats...

If you are interested in any of these adorable cats or others on our website, please visit us at

www.palpets.org, call us at 973-584-0095 or email us at [email protected] - visit our Facebook

page at : https://www.facebook.com/palspetsonparade/

all of our animals are spayed/neutered and up-to-date on their vaccinations.

W e are not sure why Tara is still with us and has not found a new

home! She is a very, very sweet kitty, about 2 years old and a love bug. Tara is current-ly in a foster home and her fos-ter mom says Tara is a sweet girl who loves to cuddle and be petted. She loves her cat tree and loves to play. She gets along well with cats, dogs, and small children. She has a curly tail which gives her a unique look! Tara was found wandering the streets before she came to PAL and is looking forward to finding her forever home in time for the holidays.

M y name is Morning Star and I was born 4/19/17 (approx.). I was starving and afraid when I was

found, but since then I've become much braver, put on some weight and I'm now looking for my forever home. I will do well in a home without dogs and very small children. Please come meet me at PetSmart in Mount Olive. I would love to spend my first holidays now that I’m rescued with a family!

P olly is a sweet cat that loves to be petted and brushed, especially on her

belly. She will turn over and enjoy the belly rub. After she gets to know you, she enjoys the company of people, and if you are watching TV, she sometimes comes over to sit

next to you wanting you to pet her. She is being fos-tered in a house with two other cats and a dog, along with two elementary-aged kids in the house. After a brief introduction period to the other cats, she gets along with them just fine. As an older cat, Polly is also content with laying on her couch and blanket. If you sit next to her, she will start purring and head-bump you to start petting her. She doesn't like to climb stairs but will jump up and down from her couch. She has been known to play with catnip toys and chase the laser pointe. Polly is in good health, spayed and up to date on her shots. She is looking forward to finding her forev-er home in time for the holidays!

M y name is Kappa and I was born 11/14/13 (approx.). I am a very laid back, easy going, super sweet guy

that was left behind when my owner moved away. I am low maintenance but I do need a special dry food to keep my digestive tract moving along. I’m current-ly living with a foster and sure would love to find my forever home for the holi-days!

M y name is Daisy Mae and I was

born 5/7/16 (approx.). I am a very friendly girl who was found all alone and very pregnant on Waterloo Road. My babies were all adopted and now it's my turn!

I love people, but I don't like other cats! Please come meet me at PetSmart in Mount Olive. Wouldn’t you love to adopt me in time for the holidays!

M eet Macy! She has a cool ear tip because she was once a TNR (trap/

neuter/release) kitty. A nice lady was feeding and taking care of her outside her home, but she was moving and asked us if we could help. Macy has come a long way and is now a quiet, but sweet girl who loves attention. Macy had an injury to her tail so it is slightly shorter, but it just adds to her charm. Come meet her at PetSmart! She’d love to come live with you for the holidays!
