    Dolphin TripBy Paul Hannan

My tamily have always been huge fans of New Zealand - my rnum comes 1rom the capital - sowe saved up and went tor a holday there. We started with a week in the city she grew up in:After that, we toured around for a while befare ending up by chance in Kaikoura, a small townen the coast. The first evening it seemec a rather du/! place, but the next day I rememberedwhat I'd read about it - that It was often possible to see dolphins and whales ther! 1'11 alwaysthink ot Kaikoura as the place where I finally achteved my lifelong ambition - to swim with wilddolphins.

My family and I set off 00 a doJphin trp on a cold. grey day with a number of other people on asmall boat. However, the sky soon tumed blue, and we raced across the waves in thesunshine untll we fnally reached the place where we were supposed to go swirnmng. To mysurprise, this was more than 40 km from land. I was quite cold by this time, and really startingto wonder why my tamily had made me come all the way out tnere. when suddenly someoneshouted 'Dolphinsl'.

AIII could see were fins everywhere - therewere more than a hundred dolphins, all swimmingtowards our boat' Many of them were jumping around in the water as if they were asking us tocome and play. I put on my snorkel and jurnped nto the sea. Everywhere I looked, all I couldsee was dolphins, swimming under me and round me. Then I remembered the gulde had toldus to make sounds in the water to attract them. So I did and actually heard them makingsimilar sounds, as jf they wera trying to answer me. leven made eye contact with one dolphin, and watched it earefully as I swam round in a eirele. Amazingly, the dolphin almost followedme, but then changed its mind, although lt kept eye contact wlth me all the time. It -really mademe realise how intelligent and beautiful these creatures are.

Then after an hour 01 swimming the guides called us to get back onto the ooat. Although I hadenjoyed rnvselt. I was keen to leava the water by then as I was very cold. As I got dry I noticedthat eyeryone on board was smiling and I realised what a very special moment we'd hado

1'11 never forget that experience, andKaikoura will always have a specal place in my hearL

Al! the actors who've played James Bond have been great. but Daniel Craig, who's made lots ofother films, plays the part oetter than any of them. Even though he doesn't talk very much, Ithink he's the most perfect actor for the role. He even does a few 01 the more dangerous thingsin the film himself, instead of gettng someone else to do them. I did wonder sometimeswhether he'd be clever enough t defeat the bad people - but I'm not going to tell you theendinql The actress who stars with Graig gives a fantastc performance too - Iloved al! theglamorous clothes she ware!

was the sister of m cousin's best friendo ,iShe became A rea!ly close frlend for me. Even aft.er the party we kept in !

touch and now she s my best friendo

Examiner CommentsThis is a very good attempt with confident and ambitous writing and a wide range of structures, for example 'my cousin Erika was going to turn 14 years old' and 'because was much youngerthan .. .'. Well organised narrative with chronologicallnking, for example, IWhen'. 'tnally', 'Evenafter'. Errors are minar and non-impeding: 'planeo' 'mi cousin'.
